How wide are the trucks at there narrowest? I want to modify these to work on a narrow guage.
@elite194 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure exactly, but I now have an HOn3 gauge so I will check that out in just a bit...

I checked the truck against the gauge and it would take a lot of filing and careful cutting, but it might work. It would be a difficult job, but not impossible. The sideframes would be too wide as far as looks go, but if you had the geared wheel sets it would be really close with lots of work.

@@elite194 Thanks for the encouragement. I can see it being doable, just need to dig into the parts. I have to make new side frames anyway to better represent the ones needed. I want to make the NF210 and the G8 used by Newfoundland. I'm still quite new to railroading, most of my modelling is aircraft and semi trucks and a lot of scratchbuilding. The HOn3 or TT track is the correct size in HO. Most power truck gear boxes I've seen are 12mm wide, the Genesis are the first I've seen that look narrower.

Making sideframes is a hard mountain to climb for most model railroaders, but if you approach it like airplanes or trucks and build the side frames in layers of detail, you'll be able to do it nicely!

@@elite194 Do the axle ends fit into the sideframes on these trucks? is that how these ones stay centered?

How do you go about making the decals for the road names/numbers?
@elite1944 жыл бұрын
for white decals I take sheet of white waterslide decal paper and use a Cricut Explore. it takes practice to get the best cut with the various blades, but I've found the 60 degree blade with a setting a notch less than vinyl does the trick. then I apply them over a gloss coat with a touch of Micro Set. I press them with a wet paper towel and carefully peal the paper towel back once pressed. I don't use Micro Sol or Solvaset because they are too strong in this application. After they are dry it is very important to get some Johnson's self shining floor polish over them, especially the small letters or they will become so dry that they will blow away before you can spray on a clear coat.
