Awesome! Thanks for watching and the positive feedback. This sunset is awesome and if you get a chance, I hope that you can experience this for yourself. The hike up is a little aggressive but well worth it for the views. Nice to see the ridgeline of the AT in the background at the top.

This place can get packed! When we went, we had another group set up a few feet from our tents even though there was plenty of space in the bald. Definitely an awesome place to catch the sunrise. Must have been nice to be able to drive up at sundown because it is not easy to hike back down in the dark.

Great video. I went up several times in May/June of 95 as part of Ranger School Class 8-95. It's much nicer as a civilian than in a Ranger class. That's the spot for approx 3 days of mountaineering training for Ranger School's Mountain phase.

10+ years ago we'd camp at the main Army training area because it's proximity to the water spring. Does that still seem like a decent place to camp?
@MetroOnTheMove
@MetroOnTheMove 10 ай бұрын
They have built a few bathrooms in that area but didn't know there was a spring there. We hauled in the water to camp on top. It was a great experience, but several people showed up late night and kinda ruined it.

Yes, this is legal and doesn't require calling ahead. You do need to check the Ranger training schedule as they use that area for training. We saw several Rangers on the way up and they had made camp down a bit from the summit.

Hello man! Enjoyed this one! Well done! Definitely makes me want to get back up there as I missed all the views on my last visit. Mount Yonah is an amazing mountain and the proximity to the metro is cool indeed. The sunset was gorgeous. Neat that you had the area to yourself as you hung in your hammock and took in the views. “Leave no trace” doesn’t only mean graffiti and trash. It also pertains to noise pollution. Hate you had a bad experience with disrespectful campers. Very selfish. On the other hand, you guys had a wonderful adventure in the woods on top of Mount Yonah. Good Stuff! Thank you for sharing! Keep Hiking (Moving)!

Thank you my friend! Totally agree that most don't understand that it is so important to respect others and their experiences on trail. @@MetroOnTheMove Oh my gosh, it was AMAZING! It never got above 63* - so perfect! I'm kind of scared of Yonah Mountain (but I'm still gonna do it anyway, probably in the spring). Did I see parts of the trail in the video that had sheer dropoffs on one side? Or is it not actually that bad? I know there are cliffs and 600 foot dropoffs on top of Yonah (and I can stay far back from those) but if the trails have huge sheer drops, that's a whole nuther ball of wax.
@MetroOnTheMove
@MetroOnTheMove 4 жыл бұрын
@@orthodoxhiker9287 There are some steep drop offs and you should be extremely careful in these areas. A woman died last week after slipping on a wet rock and fell off the cliff.The hike up is extremely rocky and has some steep inclines. You can avoid the edge as it is only in a few places. Definitely worth the effort.

@@MetroOnTheMove I heard about the lady who died - so sad! Heights are my kryptonite and biggest phobia. But as long as there’s enough room to stay back from the edge it should be alright. Thanks!

Never done yonah, would like to go at sunset... how would the hike down be in the dark? hike time estimate?
@MetroOnTheMove
@MetroOnTheMove 4 жыл бұрын
Excellent choice! The hike up is moderate to difficult in some areas and is about 2.25 miles one way.The hike in the dark can be done with proper lighting and some caution and it should take about 1.5 hours if your are taking your time. Thanks for watching and your support!

I wouldnt recommend night hiking if youve never been there before especially for the first time, weve had a few people fall off the mountain, mainly because they were unfamiliar with the mountain, apparently there are two ways to get to the top, Ive only been once and of course it was the rougher route

It was so wild so to see so many people oblivious to those around them. This family had prob 10 kids just running through everyone's campsite and flashing their flash lights in people's faces. Typically this would only happen at "glamping" / designated car camping spots, but this was definitely a first. All the trails have been super packed because everyone is ready to get out because they were cooped up for so long. Thanks for watching and your support! Cheers

Thanks for making this video! I'm hiking Yonah for the first time this weekend. Question - how fast were you hiking up? I'm a slow hiker and the only mountain I've summitted was Stone Mtn. I takes me about 45 min to get to the top. I'm trying to figure out if I timed this hike right. I've slotted 3 hours but now I'm thinking I need more than that if I want to hang around once I'm at the top. Thanks again!
@MetroOnTheMove

On average, I hike about 2 miles an hour. Round trip is 4.5+ miles or so. I like to spend a lot of time up there in a hammock or camp. The incline is pretty intense, and rangers sometimes train here so check the schedule.

Thank you for the kind words and support! Love to hear this feedback as it provides inspiration to continue making these videos. Unfortunately, there are those that do not practice leave no trace. These areas need to be preserved and spray paint has no place in the woods. Second, we all need to respect others when in nature to let everyone hike their own hike in peace. Hope you get a chance to visit this place as it awesome at sunset!! Thanks for watching and your support!
