Playing Pokemon Black as a child was so special. I remember that I was really scared of the elite four and they felt way more intimidating than in other Pokemon game. Climbing that mountain and hearing that song outside the elite four built up so much tension. Also finding Cynthia in that one random house is just an iconic moment.

As a certified Gen 4 baby, all of Sinnoh is incredibly atmospheric and nostalgic for me, but I have an incredibly special place in my heart for Twinleaf Town, Floaroma Town and Route 217. Twinleaf’s theme is so bittersweet and melancholic, it brings me right back to the feeling of playing Pearl for the first time as a 7 year old, sneaking my DS under my pillow and curling up under my blankets in order to play it late into the night. It’s such a beautiful song, it honestly just reduces me to a puddle of tears every time I revisit it. Floraoma is also a huge standout, with its serene, lighthearted music and beautiful design. I love how one of the NPCs asks if you’re here to get emotionally healed, it’s such a nice detail. It makes me feel like this town is a place that weary souls travel to in order to rest and recover after experiencing a heavy mental ordeal, and that the transient aura of the gorgeous, colorful flowers is enough to heal the hearts and minds of those who are suffering. I also remember walking up and down Route 217 for hours as a kid, writing stories in my head about my trainer being lost in the snow, completely immersed in the atmosphere. I honestly don’t know if there’ll ever be anything like the original Sinnoh games again, they’re just so incredible and emotionally resonant to me.

Dude, I don't know if you are going to read this but... Like you, I have an older brother who I used to play lots of pokemon with. The other day he showed me your video about Pokemon region designs and I was not only blown away with how you capture the feelings I got by playing the games but also hearing your point of view about details that I missed or did not think much of back then. While there isn't a shortage of pokemon content on KZbin, most of it are just attempts to make a profit on the franchise and it feels so shallow and pointless to watch. There is a huge part of the fans who love whatever GameFreak makes these days but simultaneously a moderate part of the fans are people who notice the absence of what made these games something that young adults -- like myself -- still can't let go off. With this being said, I adore everything with your videos. Everything from the words you say to you laying on the conveyor belts in Oreburgh city. You are amazing man, keep up the good work! - Love from Sweden

While I know that this video was focused on the first 5 gens, I do wanna shout-out some of my favorite locations from the 3D era of games. Anistar City from X/Y was always one of my favorites, with the tranquil, metronome-like music, the giant crystal sundial, and the one old man where you temporarily leave behind a pokemon to accompany him until his dying breath. Despite not being as major of a location as Lumiose or Geosenge, I always found Anistar to be the region that represents X/Y the best. Sword/Shield has Ballonlea, which might have been smaller than I'd have liked, but the dark forest illuminated by glowing mushrooms and with fairy pokemon hanging around and hiding among the trees is such a magical feeling. And while I do have a lot of problems with Scarlet/Violet, the atmosphere in Area Zero is unmatched - I felt like I was experiencing a bizarre mashup of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Xenoblade Chronicles, and NieR all at the same time. The 3D era may have its issues, but there are sparks of greatness that I wanted to bring attention to

The music of pokemon is truly one of the greatest things for me that just adds so much to the atmosphere. All the music for towns in these games specifically in the earlier ones just build these songs to fit perfectly. They're just lovely to listen to and anytime I hear the theme I can just see the town. They bring a peace to me somehow.

Generation 1 has this really unique atmosphere no other Pokémon game has. It has this sense of chilhood adventure, you can really feel how much the game is inspired by the developers childhoods. Also, the enviormental storytelling is peak. Some of the stuff the NPC's say is actually interesting. And oh yeah, the gameboy music just goes hard AF.

Also call me crazy, but something about how bad the graphics were back then just made it feel a certain way, that you cannot create in an inauthentic time period to it. Meaning, if you re-created something like that in that pallet or black and white essentially, it could not be repeated with the same feelings and vibe that it had then. It was just true to its time.

The way I teared up when the Village Bridge singing hit caught me off guard, like dang. Anyway, the best atmosphere in a gen 1-5 game is the reflective ponds to the east of Fortree City, and the way they were handled in ORAS really elevated that to a top 5 location in the entire series! Pinwheel Forest also has such a magical fantasy forest feel to it. Makes me feel like a kid in the woods no matter how old I get, like some My Neighbor Totoro type vibes.

This channel is truly so amazing in so many levels. The editing, the music, the humor, even the attempts to describe something as abstract as atmosphere in a videogame is done with such attention to detail it's insane; I thought I was nerdy about analyzing games and stuff, but this level of care and appreciation of even the most mundane NPC dialogue is crazy. And it's so unique too. I commend the attempt of not just making a video, but a space in which to relax in an of itself. IP is a vibe on its own. Astounding work.

As a kid I would pop Heart Gold into my DS every single week to participate in that bug catching contest, it was such a simple timed minigame but it was easily one of my favourite aspects of those games and I wish more Pokemon games had something like it. Even to this day both the National Park and Goldenrod City feel like home to me, I spent most of my time there and would just run around enjoying myself and being immersed in the vibrant colours, the music and the atmosphere. I would go down into the little underground area and get my picture taken with all of my Pokemon in whatever combination I could think of. I would give some Pokemon their own special day where I would have only them in my party and treat them to berries and take them to the stylist in the same underground area as the photographer. I would stand in the Pokemon centre or the bike shop pretending I was waiting for something and would just scroll through my pokegear calling different NPC trainers and listening to the radio. All these little moments meant so much to me as a kid and being reminded of it all from this video just makes me wanna pop my cartridge back in just to visit Goldenrod again for old times sake. Maybe I'll catch some bugs too.

It felt like such a maze of a city, with a difficult gym, and so many places to shop and things to do in the surrounding area. I think atmosphere is the main reason why Sinnoh and Alola are the best regions. I love how they both convey their respective themes (mythology and family) in both explicit and implicit ways. These regions feel the most lived in and there’s constantly some bits of world building. Music is also the best in these regions too which helps sets the mood when you’re adventuring. The history of the world feels like it’s left an impact throughout the entire region.

Okay, so, I grew up on Heartgold, Black, and Black 2. I love these games to death, they are near and dear to my heart and I don't think I could pick out a favorite area in each if I tried. That's not me saying that none of the towns stand out to me, all of them do, I grew up with them. Goldenrod, Ecruteak, Driftveil, Icarus, you could name any town and I could list 5 things I like about them. Something I started doing some years ago, or maybe I've always done, is try talking to every NPC at least once. Maybe it did start with Unova, with the dynamic NPCs that could add to the music, but a while back on one of my many replays, it was practically the very start of the game, just after fighting N for the first time. I was running around after I got the piano and drums going, talking to everyone I could, when one of the guys on the second floor said something about truth and ideals and, I don't even know why, I had probably spoken to this guy like 10 other times prior, but for whatever reason it was like my brain had taken a snapshot of the feeling I had at that exact moment. I don't even remember what exactly he said, it just left me with the nice warm feeling that you really only get after you've played a game you love over and over again. That's pretty much the memory that comes up for me whenever I try to explain why I love Unova specifically. I fucking love Gen 5 dude, easily my favorite games in the whole franchise

One of my favorite areas of Pokemon Platinum was the Valor Lakefront and the Resort area sharing the same theme. It has a nice mellow tropical feeling with a very comfy soundtrack giving you a sense of peace from the gym challenge or saving the world from team galactic. I think Resort area is very impactful because depending where you go from the fight area or survival area the game usually guides to the last place which is the resort area and the customizable villa that you can work on. It gives that feeling of playing a animal crossing game as you work slowly to build your villa. I still listen to the theme time to time because i think that was a great way for your character to finally chill once you beat the main story and game.

my single favorite place in Pokémon is Route 212 in Sinnoh. Just the frequent rain fall, the muddy marshes, the strewn about grass, the hils and logs, the streams and ponds flowing through the route and of course the beautiful music. It's just... really nice. It doesn't feel like it's an idealized place, just natural neglected land land over saturated by rain and unfriendly to navigate. I'm from Oregon so I guess it kinds reminds of thr types kf environments I'd see on the daily so it's just kinda neat seeing that in a game.

I originally skipped unova, I was at the wrong age for it, but after x and y I hopped back to it and really realized how much I missed out. And then after being underwhelmed by sword, I went back to unova, realized how they changed stuff from black vs white and then I just finally finished Black 2 a week ago. The amount of good vibes and effort and experimentation they were doing in that DS level was crazy. And the MUSIC!

Thank you for making this video and reminding us about why Pokemon is just so special, and every game is unique and can't be replaced. My favorite town is Sootopolis. I remember discovering it as a kid without a guidebook and feeling so proud, and overwhelmed by diving up directly into the center of a massive city built on a rocky island around a water-filled crater. I'm Greek, so since I was a kid I felt right at home there. The houses and the white rock they're sitting on look just like Santorini. And just like the irl Greek islands, there's so much history associated with Sootopolis, with the Cave of Origin being in the city and being protected by the people who live there. I also love how the gym is on an island in the middle of the city. It's just so special, I always would fly to Sootopolis just to hang out after beating the game as a kid.

The area outside the tower in Ecruteak in HGSS has always been one of my favorites. Fall is my favorite season and it just gives me the best vibes. I also love how the Heart Gold cardboard box gives a similar feeling. Johto is just an amazing region. But one thing I will say is that HGSS just almost completely removed the creepy vibes from Lavender town. Hoenn's music will always be special to me. Whenever I think of summer, I think of RSE/ORAS. Such a refreshing vibe from these games. Sootopolis is probably my favorite town in Hoenn. I wish newer Pokemon games experimented with their towns more like Foretree and Pacifidlog.

Could have listened to you talk about this for hours, lol. Love that Snowpoint made it in- winter's always been my favourite season and I was amazed by how that theme managed to catch it just right. Also love the mention of leaving a video game character somewhere peaceful/significant when you close the game!! For Kanto I have to shoutout Mt. Moon. The information you get in Pewter City (and for me, watching the TV show) made it feel really heavy and ominous.

I think what makes the world of Pokemon so cool is precisely the lack of development in the proposed themes. The devs only add a starting point for a mystery, for example, and it's up to you to fill in the rest of the mystery with the information you have, and that's when the world of Pokemon stops being the game's little world and becomes your little world, because, after all, most of it was created by you, in your head, with your imagination. I loved the vid, man! Patiently waiting for the next pitstop.

Just wanted to jump in and say that this video was absolutely phenomenal. Imo nothing in the series tops the Village Bridge in terms of sheer atmosphere for me but a huge amount get *really* close, which really speaks of how well done the vibes are in the first five gens. Some places I wanna mention too that I enjoy more and more over the years are Gen 1’s S.S.Anne (the music and going out on the main deck make me so happy), Gen 3’s Meteor Falls (the vibes here are so staunchly different from the rest of Hoenn - it feels more mysterious), Gen 5’s Celestial Tower (the bell really hit me hard), and finally - the spinoff game PMD Explorers’s Sharpedo Bluff (both the cliff and the beach itself - they fill me with such a feeling of *home* that I can’t quite describe. A journey’s beginning and its end.) Anyway - I loved this video, and thank you so much for putting to words one of, if not *the* main reason I love these games.

While Gens 4 and 5 I think have the best games, I do have to comment I absolutely love the atmosphere and artstyle of Gen 6 games. Something about the early, pixelated 3D artstyle just fits so well with Pokemon in my eyes. I absolutely love the vibe of Sun and Moon

The intro edit with the Mystery Dungeon OST really reminded me of just how exciting the launch of Gen 4 was for me and my friends at the time. We couldn’t wait to upgrade to DS’s to play the new Gen, and with the base games, Mystery Dungeon, and Battle Revolution, Pokemon really hit it out of the park music-wise. I’d argue that Unovas ghost girl is just as eerie and creepy as Lavender Town. The idea that you see her several times but don’t really know what’s going on until you find out she perished to Darkrai’s nightmares is so cool and unique to the lore of another game that seeing it in a new generation is very neat. I like the attention to detail

I know this kinda repeats what you said, but one really effective moment in gen 2 kanto is pallet town. Idk, just had a vibe.

One of those areas that always sticks out to me when I replay R/B/Y/G/S/C is the absolutely BRUTAL trek through Route 11, 12, 13, 14, and 15. Route 11 having to either cut through the grass or zig-zag around battling trainer classes you have never seen before like engineers and gamblers. Route 12 is super peaceful, able to walk past most of Silence Bridge without bothering the fishermen and enjoy the open water. Route 13 is where things get crazy trying to navigate a tight narrow fence maze filled with trainers and hidden items. After you make it through the maze, you're spit out into an eerily open field with a hidden patch of grass behind a tree to the west. Lastly is Route 15 that's a split path I mainly remember for the class children and a teacher there ona field trip in the second generation. I know a lot of people will skip this whole section of the map to just take Cycling Bridge, but I always felt it had some of the most memorable parts of Kanto.

Nostalgia for a time or a place one has never known) and i think it perfectly fits what i feel for goldenrod city (1999 version) especially with its nighttime visuals. I always love the ways Pokémon games make me feel when I play them, and the way they make my journeys all the more special. I always helped me feel like I was in the regions themselves, meeting these wonderful characters face to face, seeing these cities and environments with my own eyes, having all these wonderful experiences with the pokemon I've caught and befriended, the creature to this day I could, unironically, call my buddies. Thank you for capturing my feelings once and for all.

My fav pokemon places have gotta be the ones that feel like a hidden place just beneath the city- I'm from a city with this big interconnected walkway underneath a big section of its downtown called the PATH, so the tunnel under Goldenrod City that feels a bit like a rarely-frequented mall just kinda has a familiar-yet-adventurous feeling to me, like when I find a secret, empty-ish spot like that in real life. On the opposite end of the "underground city location" spectrum I'm also in love with the Virbank Gym in BW2, how you have to go downstairs to access it, how unassuming that stairway down is, & how energetic & fun it is once you get in. It's that childlike feeling of discovering something amazing hidden behind something so unassuming! & like damn, you don't even have to pay to get in like with real life concert venues? If I lived in Unova I'd be spending all my time there. Nothing matches the feel of the 2D games, but I've been playing Arceus lately & really enjoying it. I'm a big fan of the Crimson Mirelands area in particular- I love the autumn trees, I love how the fields of wheat look golden when it's sunset, & the Cottonsedge Prairie with its bright white flowers honestly did feel kind of enchanting. Anyways Pants B are awesome, love your sense of style!

I think Kanto has a lot of good atmosphere in the routes/areas besides the towns. Going through viridian forest felt like traversing the woods and encountering swarms of insects, reaching pewter city and checking out the museum to learn abt fossils and the moon landing to than explore Mt.Moon finding your way through a dark cave and finding extraterrestrial pokemon and fossils. Not to mention other areas like the abandoned powerplant, game corner, Silph co, Safari Zone, the S.S Anne, Bicycle route, etc. Also I grew up watching the anime and didnt get to play the games until I was a bit older cause too poor, but when I did it felt like I was in the anime and living it, it was such an awesome experiance

I'm a little biased towards Kanto cause FRLG was the first series I played as a kid, but definitely felt some cool stuff about the region was missed out. For starters, Cerulean Cave. The fact that you can see the entrance to the cave within the first few hours of playing through the game and have to wait so long to find out what it is, only for it to contain the world's strongest and most badass Pokemon, is so rewarding when you finally get there. As a five-year-old kid without access to any guides and the Internet not really being a thing back then, discovering small things like that was so memorable. Also honorable mentions to the power plant, the vibe of the Sevii Islands, and the Snorlaxes blocking your way throughout your journey. All these were huge contributors to the game's atmosphere for me. Love the videos man I could watch this shit all day!

Alright, Amazing Video, i'm always so happy when you upload, because you capture exactly what i love about the stuff you talk about...! Two things to add here; 1) The entrance to the Sinnoh league... Obviously, without a doubt, this place is carried by the music, especially at night!! This tiny serene area with the big Waterfall always felt like a little pitstop before the end of your adventure, and the melancholic nature of the track playing - not to mention how calm it is - Always feels like the game is trying to talk to you, or rather, encourage you to look back on all the hardship you've endured, before it all ends... It's a lovely, bittersweet interlude before the end! 2) And my favourite area in all pokemon games: Route 14 In pokemon black and white 2! Route 13 and 14 surround undella town respectively, and have a beautiful mysterious vibe to them that secludes the serenity that is Undella town from the rest of the game. I love the sense of height you get from the large cliffs already, and the way it connects to the sandy beaches of Unova... But what sells it for me is the many waterfalls and rushing rivers, that really make it feel like you've ventured to this wild corner of unexplored Unova, where only the most outstanding and adventurous trainers gather to explore... The pokemon selection doubles down on that sense of wilderness (specifically looking at Tropius here, which gives it an almost jungle aesthetic). But! Then you have the fog rushing over the entire area, and that thick vibe of wilderness is just heightened to a level i can't seem to find in any other route of the games, except like hoenn and it's high grass routes... It also is home to the Abundant shrine, which is seperated by the waterfalls and surfing lakes that it almost feels like a secret/easter egg that you found by accident! It's such a beautiful and mysterious place, and as a cherry on top, the music - the fucking banger music.... Just wow... I love that track, and it always makes me tear up every time i listen to it, so grand, so adventurous... The slow paced harpsicord that imitates the falling of leaves in autumn, the delicate chimes that reflect the snow fall in winter, the joyful melodica in Summer that sounds like a jolly hiker exploring the area, the lively harp that scatters like flower petals in Spring!!! Then that onward marching drum in the background, that drives you to explore with vigor, and last but not least, the eerie bell that adds to it like you can hear it from a far away summit!!!!! I fucking love this route, and everything it stands for, it's the exact thing i want to feel as a trainer exploring the world! Adventure, Wilderness, Secrets, and Strength!!!!

i've been playing pokemon since i was 7 and got pkmn yellow + a lime green gameboy color from a mail order ad through TV guide (...god im old) but ever since i first played silver, i've been in love with the johto region. idk how to describe it, but johto has always felt like home in a way that no other region (or game in general tbh) ever has for me. i've never heard anyone describe the johto vibes as weirdly specifically and yet spot-on accurately as you have, so thank you for reminding me how goddamn great gen 2 is! i think it's time to pick up my soulsilver game for a comfort run side note: i was havin a real shit day today but i saw the notif that you'd uploaded and it instantly lifted my spirits bc there's nothing better than one of my fav youtubers talking about one of my fav things! watchin your videos always feels like i'm chillin with my brother, and they never fail to make me smile and brighten up my day. thanks for making great content and for making your channel such a cozy place to stop and relax for a while :)

I feel like that whole National Park section was made for me specifically and I'm so grateful. I thought I was the only one liking that place! It's honest to god one of my favorite areas in Pokemon (alongside Route 113 in Hoenn too!) and as you amazingly put it, it's the very embodiment of nostalgia to me. I remember first setting foot in there at like, what, 8 years old? In OG Gold and Silver, and being absolutely blown away by the music, how just...cozy and quiet it was, after the bustling city that was Goldenrod. The lady with the Persian on the bench being kind to you on your journey and giving you the Quick Claw to help out, the flower sprites just bobbing back and forth. It's not much, but it definitely left a mark for me. Just listening to its BGM brings me to tears even today. As much as I enjoyed the most recent generations, I feel like so much of them don't have...really cool landmarks and memorable routes like they did before. Gen 6 has Reflection Cave and Route 14, Galar has the fairy gym town, and Alola has some great scenery too. But you stay there so little, and there's so little to grab your attention in those places that it's...kinda sad. Compared to say, Hoenn's diversity in environments and cohesive atmosphere and bajillion activities and little things to discover, it feels like a downgrade. I hope the series will eventually go that way again. A good chunk of the adventure for me is discovering new places and locales and Pokemon isn't the same without it to me.
