melee first person combat in games really needs more attention, my favorite thus far is probably dying light's, where feedback is awesome, the bit of ragdoll when you hit them with a blunt weapon is awesome, and when you use a blade you can aim for body parts to cut them off which is also really satisfying

I was thinking that when he mentioned the melee combat in this game. DL1 and 2 absolutely nailed it on the AAA front, while Vermintide nailed it for PC niche games. Not everything has to be For Honor or some other super involved technical system, sometimes it just needs to feel impactful and intense.

I think that what makes Jake's reviews so special and enjoyable is the fact that he takes into account different gamers' perspective in his reviews, he has an awareness that every pro and con mathers differently to different gamers.

I agree! This is why I always watch Gameranx's BYB videos, even for games I'm not interested in getting. I love seeing Jake and the team review games in this way, without bias or pre-conceived notions skewing things, and always taking other possible views into account to be as objective as possible. The opposite of this is exactly what made me wanna skip through, stop watching and almost immediately just ask YT not to show me Luke Stephens videos - couldn't stand his pessimism, annoyingly harsh criticism, and one sided views that he'd constantly repeat when reviewing somewhat flawed games.

@@gameranxTV wish the dialogue was a lot more nuanced and not trying to be quirky. One of my favourite moments was ironically in the pre-alpha early footage. The main character (in that super early build) walks through an empty facility, then sees a robot running up to him. Then he goes “*chuckes* Suka!” I burst out laughing at this part. Guy only utters grunts of pain from the combat but that single dialogue tells me he is at the very least experienced and confident. Nobody puts binary reviews out these days are you smoking? Plus binary reviews have their place. Id honestly like some more brutally honest binary reviews that says when a trash game is trash and a good game is good but they must back it up with arguements. I want to know if im playing the next red dead redemption 2 or the next cyberpunk. Look at the cyberpunk reviews, no professional was reviewing it binary and for what it was at launch despite the game deserving bad reviews and being a bad product. A review telling us that game is straight up bad and not was advertised would be more appreciated in that case but reviewers arent gonna do that if they get money, sponsors and free shit from the companies making the shit games

I just finished it after the PS5 upgrade and it went from being a buggy mess to one of my favorite games of all time. @@NeutralGloomBot Bruh, I don't even play games these days. I just collect 'em (retro). I don't make enough time to play games (notice that I'm not saying I *don't* have time--just that I'm not making the time properly. And it kills me. But I digress...) That said, me not playing games has given me a lot of perspective. I see even more clearly garbage the stuff is now, and has been for the last 5-10 years depending on who you ask. And you hear it from a lot people. The majority of gamers know that games these days are soulless cash grabs. Some accept it and continue to play, others don't. It's a sign of the times. The industry is immense and it makes more money than the film and music industries combined. There's little heart in what's being made now. The games now are created based off of behavioral analytics and marketing projections. Essentially, they just make more of what's already popular, just like in film and music. And it continues to sell...because what else are people going to do...? Not buy the newest thing???

To be honest I find that character of P-3 to be pretty good. I am not sure if it's fitting but it's pretty good. He's not a silent scientist, secret agent or any detective. He is certainly better in Russian. We have so many ways to swear that we have things called "Anchors", which are basically paragraph-sized sentences built of almost nothing but unique swears. But even common non-swear phrases have so many unique layers to the way they can be said and with what exact words. It is indeed a "Lost in translation" kind of deal you are getting with this game if you are not a Russian speaker.

@@skontejontenot another one… cmon dude, are we gonna start hating russians now? Hate putin, not russia. Not all russians are bad and even if their taxes go to the kremlin, so what? So does the natural gas and petrol europe buys from them, and they make a shitload more money from that than a game.. just play it and enjoy it for what it is.

One thing that isn't mentioned is the automatic save system, you save however much you want at save stations but it was a bad call for them to not be manual, and have you overwrite or create or make a new save when you want. Also I don't like that there are save stations instead of just saving whenever and wherever like BioShock and Wolfenstein, with the open-ish world like this, it's very annoying hunting a station down, ESPECIALLY SINCE THEYRE NOT ON THE MAP

Honestly the telekinesis definitely made me feel super powerful. Other than that, the powers are just kinda.... there. Although that shock move, fully upgraded, was great for crowd control.

Find it interesting that Skillup like the melee but not the gunplay, and Jake is the other way around. Should be fun to talk about in their podcast.

I've been curious about Atomic Heart for a while now, and the aesthetic is so gorgeous!! I'm just a little apprehensive about the issues Jake (and some other reviews) have talked about. Jake really did a great job of putting the pros and cons in perspective though. I think I might wait a bit and see if they do any updates in the near future before I pull the trigger. Fingers crossed this one gets a little tweaking from the devs to smooth out some of the jankiness. 🤞

I'm gonna try it on gamepass, but I definitely wouldn't pay for any new videogame until its been out for a month and people have talked about their experience for me to make a judgement on

There are supposedly 4 DLCs on the way, so hopefully this means bug fixes and QoL improvements as well (like an FoV slider).

what's funny is that i never played bioshock before, and the day I've downloaded this game I also downloaded bioshock and the similarity is outstanding, even thru the menu and the Audio setting there is the exact audio menu setting in bioshock!. but the art style and graphical scenery and gameplay is fascinating.

Borderlands pioneered that style of looting (hold down X/■ and it grabs all the ammo you can carry plus cash from containers, even multiple open ones at the same time if they're close to each other, like lockers.) Fallout and The Elder Scrolls had the "take all" option that was helpful too.

It's on Game Pass on PC. Plays AMAZING on my 3070. The dev build played amazing too and it had RTX. I can't wait until they polish and implement RTX on the final build. It's gonna be good. Can't wait for this studio to put out more hits. They did a good job with this for their first time.

It's definitely on my to-buy list, but probably not at launch; give it time for some hot-fixes, patches and DLCs before getting a more complete package.

I am loving this game - the world building, aesthetics and snappy combat (outside of swarming ai). The bosses are great. Really hope it gets a sequel and developer more spotlight.

Hey man, but Jake also was right on second one.. My native is English/Russian and I played in original comparing with English and they lost it.. a lot. Russian wasn't perfect but after some hours character and glove do nice dialogues and quotes. I would probably translated them better myself but really there is no way to translate it right.. Best quotes in game are too language specific, sadly
