The geopolitical realities of the post-WW2 world were defined by one major factor: a nuclear arms race between the Soviets and the Americans.
In a world where the two largest superpowers began to amass weapons of massive destruction, on a scale previously unheard of, other powerful nations quickly elected not to be dependent on fate alone, and too started their own nuclear programs, with the vision of securing their own nuclear arsenals.
The goal was never to use them - but rather only possess them, and let their presence act as deterrence.
As tensions between NATO and Russia rise in the wake of Putin's aggression against Ukraine, and Russian nuclear warheads are moved to Belarus and presumably Kaliningrad, the issue of Europe's nuclear deterrence emerges.
Join Jan Darasz and his guest Artur Kacprzyk, International Security Analyst, Polish Institute of International Affairs, for a fascinating discussion on nuclear deterrence and whether a new nuclear arms race is underway. #Geopolitics #ColdWar #NuclearWeapons #InternationalSecurity #NATO #Russia #NuclearDeterrence #Putin #Ukraine #Europe
