His account is very old, and many of the sites he's signed up to have gotten hacked. He also said that many of his contacts fall for the "email this to X number people or else" trick. I don't remember which one, but he said so in one of his Q&As

In one of his FAQ questions he explains that once you reply to 1 scammer you get marked as an easy target on the scam lists of emails so once you start replying you will just get more spam emails.

Simply having an email address is already enough to get scam mails. Especially when your email isn't something weird sounding but simply made of your name. My first mail address that I used 20 years ago had my name and after not checking my mails for a couple of weeks once my computer actually had trouble opening Outlook because of the flood of new unwanted mails it needed to load. After that I got a weird nickname as my new mail address and the spam became rarer.

An idea: when you receive a scam e-mail that offers you to share the money that the scammer found, take the scam as far as possible, as slowly as possible. Then, during the payment, tell the scammers that you were going to scam them by keeping all the money, but seeing how wrong this was, you decided to give up the transaction.
