Beachcombing isn't usually a competitive sport, but what if it was? Today Jenny and I will go head to head to see who can collect the most seaglass in a couple of hours.

Upon seeing the title of the video, I had at first thought that you were taking part in Charmouth's yearly 'Competitive Seaglass hunt', which I without a doubt believed would be a thing. Perhaps upon seeing you and Jenny competeting in such, will inspire your fellowmen to step up, thus getting the ball rolling!

@@mikethedigitaldoctorjarvis And there's a village--I think in Wales--where everyone goes on parade around the outskirts of the village carrying a young lad and they bounce his bottom on every rock that delineates the boundaries of the village. That's been going on every year as far back as there are records--to some time in the middle ages, at least. Rock bouncing, cheese rolling--like you said, why wouldn't beach glass picking-up not also be a thing?

My wife no longer considers amber seaglass a treasure as it is quite common where i fossick, I put it around potted plants as a decoration. Blue is rare and black is hard to find and identify as seaglass, like that dark green you found. The rarest for me is red, I only have one piece.

Can you still call it sea glass if you made it in a rock tumbler!? I say no. I was amused at how much people sell it for online. If you have hunted for seaglass you can see lots of the online "seaglass" is fake rock tumbler glass. Having said that if you just want a jar of treasures for decorating a windowsill or something and the picking up things from the beach is not possible or beneath you (you can get funny looks from people) then fake seaglass is fine.

Lovely to see Jenny in this video. Team Shrimp did an excellent job of picking up seaglass and now I am most interested to see what you make with it. Here in Tasmania, on King Island, they have a glass recycling plant and they turn all of the islands bottles and other glass into a product that is used for mulch. I am guessing you will both come up with a far more interesting way to value add that sea glass. You could always use it to decorate some terracotta pots for future garden use mosaic style. Whatever you both choose to do with your haul, well done on cleaning up the beach :)

Does glass count as harmful pollution in the sea? Silica is silica and it will all become sand eventually. But I suppose what they use to colour the glass or something could be bad🤷‍♂️. If I’d just finished a beer and tossed the bottle off the pier is that actually completely fine? Wouldn’t feel like it.
@AtomicShrimp
@AtomicShrimp Жыл бұрын
It's chemically pretty much as inert as the rocks and sand, but until its broken down and made smooth, the sharp edges are a hazard to bathers and wildlife. I mean it's not OK to just toss glass bottles in the ocean, but there are also worse kinds of littering

The joy of joint accounts in my case my "husband" pays into it, and i spend it! Well actually no since covid he pays into it, and i pay for everything via another account but it provides another rainy day account!

My husband hated when I did better him in anything. Any time we went fishing and I caught a lot and he didn't catch anything, he would never fish there again. I can't believe he stopped me from catching shrimp in a drop net. They were huge! So big that if I wanted to fry them (and I did) I had to cut them in half lengthwise. They were gorgeous! I only had caught enough for a slim supper for us and the kids. Another hour and I would have been set. Enough for supper and some for the freezer. Nope, he had to go. Just because he wasn't catching anything. No way for a husband to act.
