Hello Jordan. I found some misleading information that I would like to point out, so your subscribers wont be confused :) Hope this helps. 1. Atomos Ninja V records very flat. No. It records the exact Picture Profile that you set on your camera. If you set it to Log, then it will record Log. If not, then you don't have to edit colors after. 2. ProRes stores much more information and IS LARGER is size compared to H.264. (ITS A GOOD THING!). Thank to less compression, your computer doesnt have to work as hard to decompress it when you are editing you videos. The more you compress it in camera, the more you have to uncompress it. 3. Atomos Ninja V is 4K recorder, but has only FullHD display. Which is also completely fine - as it still will record 4K. The display is only 1920x1080. 4. You can also connect microphone to your camera and other one directly to the Atomos. It supports 2 channels (left and right) through HDMI. This way, you can record up to 4 channels with Atomos Ninja V. If you find any other mistakes, please leave it bellow this comment :) all the starting videomakers will be very thankfull!

Hi Marc, that is great, I really appreciate your feedback and glad you found the video informative. What camera system would you be looking to use it with?
@mpell663 жыл бұрын
Hi Jordan, I am considering using it with my Panasonic Lumix S5. I need an external monitor, whether I want to spend extra for one that records in a higher quality codec than the internal recording is the question. Very likely yes, even though an extra part of the cost is all the 'extras' that you mention in your video. I only edit using Davinci Resolve so will not be able to use the Prores RAW directly and probably won't invest time and money in re-rendering it so it can be edited. I imagine using the other Prores codecs that (I assume) Davinci Resolve can edit, or using the Avid DNxHR codec, there will still be a noticeable potential for a better quality output than from the on camera recording. Do you have any experience with these aspects?

Hi Jah, to me it sounds like you just require a external monitor to view your image on a larger, clearer screen while recording. @JordanFowlerYT3 жыл бұрын
Hi Noah, I am not 100% sure on the following as I do not use a R5 myself, someone else may be able to clarify this.. However I believe that there is no ProRes Raw output from the R5 and the R5 HDMI output is limited to 4K 60fps @ 10bit 4:2:2. Canon seems to be moving away from external raw options as they are doing a lot of it internally now. There is still some uses though for the Ninja V with the R5 such as syncing multi camera setups, hope this helps.

You say that "if you don't want to be color grading your footage then this isn't for you" Needing to color grade should only be an issue if you are shooting a log profile. Your standard picture profiles can still be used that don't 'need' to be graded. It doesn't make a difference if you are recording internally or externally.
