AtomRC / Eachine Killer Whale build and maiden - I got a new Fatshark Avatar system for iNav

This video was first published on Patreon on 16th August 2022 so it's 6 weeks old, I was running the old firmware on the Fatshark Avatar goggles and I promised myself I wouldn't fly it again until I have some form of OSD for iNav. Since then, the firmware has been updated (and pulled again) but it's working flawlessly for me.
Some people will be unhappy to know that the OSD isn't recorded with the video stream, it doesn't work that way. The OSD data comes along with the video feed and then it's rendered by the goggles so, until Walksnail/Fatshark sort the crap out and make the OSD recorded in the goggles, any subsequent videos will be with an overlay done by me.
The image quality of this system is absolutely perfect and the video you see is the video that I see.

Cheers mate. It's certainly exceeded my expectations and it's completely changed the feeling of laid-back flying 😁 They took the firmware down the day after I updated it because 2 people (out of 100's) had a black screen issue that they can't reproduce. That was 3 weeks ago and still no update.

Unfortunately, sometimes things do go to plan and I come home with a plane. There was a recent incident where I found the plane but lost the brand new GoPro though 😒

They say that it can handle an all-up weight of 2.5kg. It doesn't like flying slowly as it is, with another kilo on board, the landings would have to be nearly flat-out 🤣🤣

Yeah, I know mate. It was a sort of crash because it was unintentional. Don't worry, there is a nice crash to come and a lost GoPro in the same day 😁

Nice one Tony...pleased for you...I see this Walksnail system has done 31 Kms using some top end directional antennas with a clear image. It's an exciting development IMO which clearly beats DJI. The standard Omni Antennas are pretty crap apparently. I'm hoping Walksnail are going to make a standalone VRX with HDMI output so I can use my high res Box Goggles. Can't focus on those little screens...Can't wait to see some more proper flights with FC assistance m8. Well done...😳🤔😳😀🇬🇧

I don't know if the DJI systems have it, but these have independent focus adjustments mate. My eyes aren't the best but I can get a crystal clear image with the focus adjustments. I've bought several antennas now and I'm going to try some TrueRC patch antennas on the next flight. On 25mW, it'll do 1km, on 700mW, my balls wouldn't grow big enough so it turned back. You'll be a bit pissed off to learn that the OSD isn't recorded with the goggles so I have to use my own overlay at the moment. Is there a way I can contact you? I'll send you a video. @@Vortecks It's not just eye focus Tony, it's a question of IPD as well. My mates DJI goggles I could focus without my +3 script glasses, but the IPD wasn't quite enough...I bet the IPD is limited to 69mm?....🤔😳😳

@@Vortecks Oh, it's very simple, the distance between the centres of the lenses when at maximum spread, or furthest apart....These goggles are made for small Chinese heads, not Europeans IMO...🤔🙄😳🇬🇧

Morning Tony. I've been out of the game for quite a while now but am looking to get back into it. This thing looks right up my street because of how quiet it seems on the video. I was planning on building a Mini Talon again which I have in a box but they're so noisy for where and when I want to fly (which is near my village and very early in the morning). I think this will be much more suitable so thanks for posting, I'll see if I can find one!

Sorry Steve, I didn't notice this comment. Yeah, I was out of the game for quite a while but the review of this thing came up in my suggested videos so I had to buy one. They're not mega quiet but 2 props are quieter than 1 and also, A lot easier to launch. I think this is the best plane I've owned and I've had quite a few now 🤣

Love the video and the killer whale mine flight like a dream too. Just be careful with flap the slow the plane fast I deploy mine in final, you did stall the plane in the end, and if you did not have osd, I suggest do not deploy flaps.

Yeah, I did figure that out the hard way. It lands perfectly without flaps anyway and I've had a couple of death spirals. Now I have OSD, I can see the air speed and it hasn't happened since. Cracking plane it is 😁

I covered my foamies in tape it's clear and has strands of fiber's running through it in a square pattern not sure what tape was called But it made the plane super strong..

Same Motor and Props but im using Samsung Lion (4000mah) Batterie. With 3s 3P (12.000mah) i can fly 55-65min
