They keep making things more and more complex for young enthusiasts. Too bad.

If I wanted to ask a question regarding part 159/160, who would I contact? I dont see any number or e-mail for the FAA directly, would I contact a local FSDO office? My question involves the R-ATP and the 1250 rule if you have an associates, as well as combining flight engineer time obtained while in the military. As I understand it, 61.159 outlines the "ATP" while 61.160 outlines the "R-ATP"? Does that then mean, that, when reading 61.160 paragraph "(e)" which states "person who applies for an airline transport pilot certificate under the total flight times listed in paragraphs (a), (b), and (c) of this section must otherwise meet the aeronautical experience requirements of §61.159, except that the person may apply for an airline transport pilot certificate with 200 hours of cross-country flight time." -- to me this reads that, basically, you need to meet all the applicable requirements to 61.159, except that instead of the 1500 hour rule, it becomes 1250 (which is mentioned in a paragraph just above this one), and that the cross-country flight time is reduced to 200 hours? Then if we return back to 61.159, it states that Flight Engineer time can be counted in a 1:3 ratio, up to a maximum of 500 hours, toward the ATP. But CAN it be applied to the R-ATP as well? I have about 3000 hours as a KC-10 FE. I'm looking at making the cross to the civilian world and picking up a commercial license through an associates degree program using my benefits. I've asked this question to a few people and they seem to agree, though a bit fuzzy between the 2 sections. The benefit here is that, as soon as I complete the program which is ~250 hours, I would add my 500 hours FE time, and already be at 750 hours and only need to complete 500 more to reach the 1250.

I was just on X-Plane 11 last night from KBDL to KBUF and noticed with the 20 or so knot crosswind that the approach seemed pretty difficulc ompared with some other airport... don't know if the general difficulity of the KBUF approaches had much to do with the crash though. I know of the excessive icing allowed.
