Very interesting diagnosis, Bernie! In my experience Volvos are very picky about fuel pressure. If the fuel pump duty cycle is not what is expected for the desired psi/volume, a rationality code is very quick to set. Looking at the FP duty cycle on the scanner is a giveaway :)

I guess that’s what happens when you’re spit balling instead of properly diagnosing the problem. Thanks Bernie. I wish I was 30 years younger and healthy. I would go into that field versus heavy equipment that ruined my body.

My guess is the previous shop properly diagnosed it (faulty fuel pressure sensor) but put on an aftermarket FPS (Volvo's work best with Volvo parts) and then began chasing a ghost fault. Many years wrenching at Volvo dealers, I can't tell you how many times I saw this exact scenario - part from local parts shop, Ebay, Amazon, etc...I put Volvo sensor on and car is fixed.

@@ghostwrench2292 I would think if they had correctly diagnosed it to start with they should have realized the part they installed was bad. I guess it's easy to armchair quarterback after the fact. It seems to be a common issue these days to get bad aftermarket parts.

Darn it Bernie! I am doing my best to follow along with you . I love your videos. You must have 100s of thousands of hrs studing and work with diagnosis. We appreciate your videos! I have been working on cars on and off for 30 years. I did mostly tune ups , brakes,suspension, intake and pretty basic mechanical type stuff. I have been studying electrical trouble shooting. I have been studying with Paul Danner. Is there any video series training or books you can recommend? Thank you for your time! I am sure all of here on the channel appreciate you! I do!

Nice work Bernie, would be interesting to see what the fault originally was. Likely the sensor was the first thing changed and then they changed everything else from there. At some point "something" must have gotten better but still leaving the poor quality part that they installed.

After you put the old fuel pressure sensor in should you reset fuel trims so your next test doesn't show the correction from the faulty one?
@Sangueffusor4 жыл бұрын
It isn't really necessary, as the ECM will re-learn the fuel trims on its own
@juanportillo22014 жыл бұрын
No need with the Escan. The Escan records long term+short term fuel trims. This is the reason the Escan shows green(1-10%) fuel trim squares after putting the old sensor. In regards to the car itself, it does not take long for the ECM to relearn fuel trim on a specific cell. The car just need to be driven at different loads/rpm to relearn every fuel trim cell.
@Troy_Built4 жыл бұрын
You can check to see if it's actually fixed by just seeing if the trims basically zero each other out. Once you erase codes if it's not fixed you may wish you had them back.

ur pressure transducer was reading about 25 on the rail nd the pressure sensor was reading 45 the old sensor was reading 40-45 what did the used fuel pressure sensor relearn its value to ? it should relearned about 25 pressure right to match ur scope on the transducer
@Sangueffusor4 жыл бұрын
The ECM is using the fuel rail pressure (FRP) sensor to determine how fast it should command the fuel pump to spin. If the computer thinks it's getting 45 PSI on the rail, but the "new FRP sensor" is reading incorrectly, the ECM won't command the fuel pump to spin fast enough to actually get 45 PSI - it will only get about 25 PSI, as measured by the ATS pressure transducer connected to the Schrader valve on the fuel rail. Once the old (working) FRP sensor was installed, both the ATS pressure transducer and the FRP sensor read the same value, 45 PSI - this meant that the ECM was able to correctly command the fuel pump to actually produce a rail pressure of 45 PSI.
@eli3104 жыл бұрын
