I'm a newbie Triumph owner but a serging fool for a couple of decades. I have watched the official Babylock videos on this foot but prefer your video. It is clear, concise, and includes helpful hints. One day I may be able to stitch ruffles onto straight fabric!

Hi Pam, What a nice compliment-thanks! It takes a little practice-like patting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time. But you'll get a feel for it after several tries. Be patient with yourself because you'll love the results and don't you LOVE the Triumph?! Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips and be sure to subscribe to receive a notice when I post a new one!

You make this look so easy. I realize now the problem I was having had a lot to do with handling of the fabric. I will keep on until I get it right. Love you videos.

Yes you can gather stretch fabrics on your Evolution. Every fabric is different so experiment on scrap fabric. Practice how you handle the fabric as you stitch. It’s easy to pull on stretch (or any) fabric and not get any gathering. If you need more help let me know and thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!

How do you know how much gathering is required when using a store-bought pattern, like Simplicity?

Can you use this method to make a ruffle and sew to an apron at the time?
@GailPatriceDesign3 жыл бұрын
Hi Laura, yes, you can use this fun foot for all kinds of projects. Make a sample first to check all of your settings and be sure you like the results. Let me know if you need any help and thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!

I've watched several videos on a presser foot, but no one talks about how to measure the fabric for the ruffle for a specific project. Do you double, triple, or 1.5 the length of the project for a ruffle????
@GailPatriceDesign2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ursula, All fabrics ruffle differently depending on how thick, stiff or crisp they are. Most ruffling feet will ruffle at a 2:1 ratio, but that is variable. I always cut my ruffle strip at least 2 1/2 times the finished length I need. You can trim off any excess at the end. Hope that helps and thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!

how do I make the rumba ruffles? where the needle is in the middle of the piece of the fabric making ruffles on the right and left sides of the piece of the fabric. Then I can add a ribbon in the middle to cover the stitch in the middle or I can put buttons. I want to use this type of ruffles in front of the dress over the breast area in vertical way and going down before the waist.
@GailPatriceDesign6 жыл бұрын
For that type of ruffle, You will have to gather your fabric strip separately and then attach it to the dress.I would either use the chain stitch or a conventional straight stitch on the sewing machine (Stitch length = 4.0).If you use a chain stitch, increase differential feed and stitch length as noted in the video. It will give you the most accurate and best looking results.Let me know if you have any other questions. Will be happy to help and thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!

I am trying to make a satin ruffle onto minky or cotton. Eventually it will be a baby blanket, one side minky, one side cotton with a satin ruffle. I'm using a Babylok Evolution and not doing well with it. Is it because the satin doesn't ruffle well? I'm finding it inconsistent. Thank you for any help in advance.
@GailPatriceDesign8 жыл бұрын
Judy Dengler If the satin is thick and/or stiff, it won't ruffle as easily. Are you pulling back on the fabric as it's feeding through under the presser foot? And are all of your machine settings correct? You can try raising the needle tension settings, but if the satin is slightly heavier or stiff, you may need to gather it the traditional way ( on your sewing machine) and then serge it to the minkie. Let me know what your results are and what worked. Thanks for watching!

I tried this on the singer serger, with a gathering foot that has a differential feed, but it won’t cut as I go. What am I doing wrong!
@GailPatriceDesign5 жыл бұрын
Hi Susie, The knife will trim just the ruffle fabric. If your gathering foot looks like mine, you'll notice that the flat (top) fabric is protected from the knife by a guide. Is your knife trimming the lower (gathered) fabric? If it isn't, check its position. It might need to be adjusted slightly left. Let me know and will be glad to help some more. Thanks for watching Serger Tip Clips!

I get how to attach a ruffle to a flat fabric on the serger...but can you show me or someone tell me how to go around and attach a ruffle to a pillow top? I can get around three sides of the pillow but I'm having trouble going down the final side and finishing it off. Please I'm desperate for help here!!!
@GailPatriceDesign4 жыл бұрын
Hi Casi. I'm not sure about your question. Are you having difficulty figuring out how to measure what the finished length of the ruffle should be? I'm happy to help, but can you tell me exactly what you can't figure out? Thanks and will wait to hear from you!
@boonchilla4 жыл бұрын
Gail, ok so I have a 16” pillow I’m doing. 16” square. The pattern calls for the ruffle to be 4 1/2” x 42”. She says to take three pieces of the 4 1/2” strips and sew all three pieces together, then fold in half and then theoretically you attach the ruffle around the four sides of the 16” fabric (17” for seam allowance). So I put the strip down to be gathered and the fabric piece on top for the ruffle to be attached, everything goes great going around all three corners until I get down to the final side of the pillow. I have a bit left over from the ruffle for one and for another when I’m going down to where the two ruffle pieces meet, I can’t seem to figure out how to round it out or make them meet seamlessly if that makes any sense. I hope I have explained this right
@GailPatriceDesign4 жыл бұрын
@@boonchilla If you have extra ruffle fabric, that's a good thing! As you stitch to within 2 - 3 inches of the starting point of your ruffle, stop. Since a ruffling foot usually ruffles at a 2:1 ratio, trim your remaining ruffle strip to approx. 6 inches long. Turn in the raw edge of the edge you just trimmed to have it look finished. (You can press it after it's completed.) Finish stitching and overlap the ruffle 1/2" to the starting edge. You can either hand stitch or machine stitch the edges together after pressing. I hope that helps and is clear enough to follow. You might want to do a test run on practice fabric to see how this technique works. You can also tweak it so that it looks perfect on your real pillow! Thanks!

It would be helpful if you added the serger settings in the notes below!
@GailPatriceDesign7 жыл бұрын
Hi Glenda, The settings vary for different brands of sergers. Check your owner's manual for rolled hem settings. Typically the right overlock needle and upper looper tensions are normal but the lower looper tension is higher. But the difference in the LL setting varies a lot among the different machines. Also the stitch length depends on the fabric and thickness of thread. To get the setting just right, test it on scrap fabric. Thanks-let me know if you have more questions. Will be happy to help!
