One thing I think Isayama does really well is the character of Floch. I think more than anyone else he represents how someone not affiliated with the main characters would feel. The decision to save Armin may be good later, or it might blow up in their faces. But if the enemies across the sea are as barbaric as they seem, they need a Devil to lead them to victory. And that's what Erwin represented. He could sacrifice hundreds of people in order to complete the mission. And Floch doesn't see that same energy in Armin. Floch needs his Devil. And I really love that he's willing to call out the main characters, because not a lot of people or even shows do that. On another note, seeing Frieda actively try to help Grisha(judging from her expression), before being completely taken over and shut down by the first King's will was really sad. She genuinely seemed like a good person who wanted to help humanity.

Honestly, I think the Reiss family as a whole *meant* well. Even Rod Reiss, even though he was too cowardly to take on the Founding Titan himself. His desperation when the syringe was broken and his declaration that he was coming to his family members tells me that he was just a man in a very, very tough situation, being held hostage by non-Subject of Ymir Eldians. I do think he cared for Krista. Maybe not as intensely as his legitimate children, and he was an ass for what he wanted to do to her by lying by omission, but at the same time he answered her honestly. His answers were just clouded in desperation and bias to ensure the status quo remained for the 'safety' of the people of the walls, so they could continue to dwindle down as King Fritz intended.

You guys seem to be misinformed about the timeline of when Grisha slaughtered the Reiss Family. Day 1 (Morning) : Grisha left his home in Shiganshina to go to the inner walls. Day 1 (Noon) : The Fall of Shiganshina happened. Day 1 (Noon/Night) : Grisha found out about what happened and immediately rushed to the Reiss chapel. Day 1 (Night) : The Reiss family found out that Shiganshina fell and went to go pray in the crystal cave. Day 1 (Night/Midnight) : Grisha confronts the Reiss family then ate Frieda & slaughtered the rest of the Reiss family (except Rod). Day 2 (Dawn) : The news of the Fall of Shiganshina reached Trost (where Keith Shardis was located) Day 2 (Dawn) : Grisha confronts Keith. They both go to where Eren & Mikasa were taking shelter. Day 2 (Dawn) : Grisha gave the power of both the Founding & the Attack to Eren. Day 2 (Dawn/Morning) : Keith carried Eren back to the shelter. Day 2 (Morning) : Eren woke up with the basement key.

Floch thinks he is thinking rationally with wanting to save Erwin but I think his emotions are involved as well. Imagine you go on a suicide charge and are the sole survivor. You find your half-dead commander and bring him to Levi. And he dies anyways. Floch from his POV survived for no reason. He probably even feels guilty for surviving. They more or less killed his purpose.

Floch believed the Titans were devils and he believed that the way to kill one is another devil. That’s what he saw Erwin as. Even though most of the fanbase saw him as this hero and great leader and see him positive good guy. Floch sees him semi negatively. From his perspective Erwin basically send hundreds of soilders on this suicide charge with seemingly low remorse (in his perspective). But I say semi negatively because he believes that the only way to kill the titans is to be a devil. Someone who is evil, ruthless, show no remorse when it comes to beating the enemy so to him saving Erwin to him is saving the devil for the greater good. That’s why spoiler alert 🚨⚠️ don’t read if you ain’t read the manga Floch choose to Floch choose to follow Eren because he became a devil to beat the enemy and was ruthless against the enemy that changed from titans to other humans themselves so Eren became an even bigger devil than Erwin because this is more morally bad, so to Floch that’s why Eren was a even better leader than Erwin. Even when he died he even said Eren is able to save the Eldian Empire. Floch is a very interesting and nuanced character that most don’t acknowledge because they don’t like his character

Some possible answers to some of their questions (no spoilers): 52:58 - Pastor Nick and "these people" (the church) gained power mostly because one of the walls was breached, killing thousands. You better believe that people will turn to religion looking for salvation when one of the "divine walls" (that as far as they know may have been a literal gift from God) breaks down. Many probably believed the lack of praising to the walls was related to the fall of Maria, as divine punishment. 55:25 - We (the viewers) literally see Grisha on a horse chariot. Not saying there is no way he turned into titan for moving fast within the walls... but what has to do with anything at this point? And what for? We have seen horses pretty much match Annie's titan form top speed (which is probably faster than Grisha's, based on their titan shapes)... And even if he gained a slight speed advantage (which I doubt) it would be countered by fatigue and having to turn back into human a good dozen miles away to not blow his cover... Can you imagine Eren turning into titan form, exhausting himself, just to move from Shiganshina to Trost, instead of just using a horse? 57:00 - Grisha told Eren NOTHING. He let him become his own person with his own ideals; and only after Eren showed determination to join the Scouts, he thought about showing him what's in the basement. He learned from Zeke's the mistake of trying to force your ideology into your son. Had they gotten like a normal father and son to the basement (this was never bound to happen), I like to believe Grisha would have just revealed the stuff and let Eren choose his own path. 1:02:20 - The "Great Titan War" occured 80 years prior to Grisha's father retelling to him (so around 100 years ago when the show starts); the walls were created as King Fritz fleed the wa. It wasn't a 80 year long war. 1:03:07 - I think it should be clear by now that the reason the Oriental Clan members were immune to the "Reiss erase ability" is because they are NOT Eldians. Only Eldians can turn into titans, only Eldians are connected to the paths that meet at the Founding Titan, only the Eldians can be affected by those Titan powers. 1:10:30 - Personal headcanon: I think Grisha DID (unknowingly) cause the plague. He probably just brought a "common cold" kind of disease with him (without knowing) from the outside world, and after 100 years of isolation, the people from Paradise had weak defenses against it. Would also explain why he knew how to cure it so successfully. 1:11:45 - Levi probably "awakened" at an early age (as we saw him being a kid dominating adults in some of Kenny's flashbacks), way before the events of No Regrets. If you rewatch/remember No Regrets paying attention, being captured by the scouts was always part of the plan... So that Levi could have easily dominated Erwin and Miche if he didn't want to be caught and join the scouts to look for the documents the nobleman wanted. 1:12:50 - More like food for speculation, but I think its worth mentioning that Eren is the biological son of a Titan Shifter (not just a normal human) whose Titan is well known for having a strong will of not stopping against anything in its search for freedom. 1:17:50 - Titans are lighter than a human their size would be (Hange explains this to us), but they still have great size and weight (not that just of their original human form). This gimmick not only flavours a little the fact that they seem to appear from thin air; but also doubles as an in-world explanation as to why the titan sizes, shapes and movements can defy the square-cube law (a real thing). 1:28:15 - Wanted to add that the abnormal from Ilse's Notebook (that could even form some sentences) was a woman from the cult that followed 104th Ymir as a fake goddess. She confused Ilse with the 104th Ymir she knew, as they have very similar features. She was just injected and throw out that wall by the sea (as seen in 2x10 Children) alongside Ymir and the rest of the cult. 1:40:25 - You missed this twice already, but Eren knows what happens when he touches Historia and he knows it doesn't unlock the Founding Titan powers for him. He realized (and mentioned twice in the last two episodes) that he needs to be touching a TITAN of royal blood. He doesn't want the military (if they ever become able to do so) to turn Historia into a titan for him to tap into the Founder's powers. Also notice that Historia or Zeke getting the Founding (by them eating Eren) wouldn't give them full access to those powers neither, as their royal blood would chain them to the will of the first king of the walls, just like happened for Uri and Frieda. 1:45:20 - Its stated in the show (if you pay attention to the timelines) that Frieda had the Founding titan for around 3 years. We know Grisha killed her "5 years ago" by the time Eren reaches the underground chapel (around the time that has passed since Wall Maria felt), and Rod Reiss mentions in the chappel how "8 years ago Frieda got this power from his brother Uri". 1:46:00 - Titan shifters are very important figures that have existed for almost 2000 years... and they know what happens when a titan shifter dies without passing it on... Pretty sure just those two things are enough to confirm that Ymir's Curse is a very real thing that has been proven time and time again. We also see Eren "the Owl" Krueger and Uri Reiss getting really weak/fragile by the end of their 13-year terms. 1:46:55 - I remember the wording used in the show being something along the lines of "Ymir Fritz died 13 years after getting the power of the titans, so is just fair that we live that long". 1:48:15 - There aren't two clases of pure titans or anything like that; "abnormals" is just what the scouts decided to call those that act in abnormal ways (or at least outside of what they consider "normal" for a titan). Most titans walk directly towards the closest human and try to eat them. So that's the norm. Everything outside of that, gets labeled as "abnormal behaviour" (things like sprinting, jumping, talking, ignoring close humans in favour of bigger groups of people) and are refered to as "abnormals". But they aren't a special breed of titans or anything. Just like humans (they are humans after all, or used to be), some just act weirdly. There is probably not a single reason. Dossage of the injection, how pure or mixed is your eldian blood, force of will, pure luck, goals or values you had in life, just random chance... All (or none) of those could influence you becoming (or not) an "abnormal" titan. To me it makes more sense that many of these humans-turned-monster act in different ways. 1:52:47 - You guys have to remember that Reiner is not just any titan shifter. He is the Plot Armored Titan. 1:54:50 - Again, "abnormals" are just pure titans like the rest; not a subclass or different breed. They just happen to have abnormal behaviour (when compared to what is normal behavour for most titans). 2:06:18 - That's what I like to believe (as stated in the "abnormals" talk). Even if they become mindless and their driving goal becomes eating humans in an unconcious attempt to regain their humanity; they are still "human". Just like not all humans (or all animals of the smae species) act the same way; same goes for titans. They have some individuality, and in some cases (as demonstrated by Connie's mom and Ilse's abnormal) retain some remains of who or how they were or acted in live, and are able to recognize figures of their past. 2:06:44 - Based on the glance we got at Rod Reiss' titan vision, the actions of several titans in many diferent episodes, and how the scouts found weird that titans had destroyed empty houses at Ragako (Connie's village); it seems that titans can see humans as glowing beacons of light, even through walls. This explains why they ignore empty buildings, why some of them are attracted to groups of people (bigger glows), and some of the weird instances were a titan grabs a human out of sight or breaks a wall that happens to have humans just behind. They probably just see the human glow on the nape of the titan shifter. They for sure recognize them as "human" and not as "titan". ??:?? - You keep refering to Marley as "Eldia". Eldia is no more. When you refer to "that place beyond the sea were the marleyans are", just call it Marley. Is like insisting on calling Portugal "Lusitania" instead, because parts of it were called like that in the past. The cruel Eldian Empire is no more. All hail to the great nation of Marley!

Oh man now Floch is probably one if the most interesting characters in the show and I can not stop saying how well Isayama wrote him. He represents the ordinary, not so good at anything really, kind of unspectacular soldier. Not the main character, not the side character but barely an extra. Since he has no affiliation with our main cast his perspective is super important to have and I am glad Isayama wrote him since most shows dont really care about putting its main cast into perspective when it comes to morally grayish scenarios. He started of as someone joining the army naively thinking he could spark change and do something of significance, similar to Keith Shadis in his early days. Not truly knowing how horrorfying war could actually be since he has never been on the front lines like our squad. Since he also is a huge coward which he himself admitted, his role model and spark of hope in this situation was Erwin. He believed in Erwin and his approach and trusted him with his life and to be the only survivor of such a horrendous suicide charge having to live with knowing his hero just dies like that obviously left him scarred. We as the audience have seen so much perhabs eben more terrible things happen in this show, specially to our guys, what he went through in this season might seem like not so much of a big deal in comparison both in terms of emotional impact and as well as just the number of fights we have seen in this show. But to him since he is new this was the worst, so not only does he fight his own trauma in that moment but then also comes across Erwins body realizing he still lives which filled him with hope and a sense of belonging and purpose. HE was the one responsible to bring back this hero that would function as the devil his people need more than anything. To then find our main cast selfishly fighting for their best friend to survive over this beloved war hero that Erwin became in his eyes and the publics eyes as well throughout season 3 just filled him with anger. You guys said Erwin wasnt even popular and that was true for the first two seasons but his status among the public and in the military has changed drastically in season 3. Dont forget how passinately him and his team were sent off to Shiganshina at the end of S3 part 1. Anyway back to Floch, he sees himself as something like the devils right hand if you will, for the sake of Eldia and Eldia only. He knows he is too scared to become the devil himself nor could he because of the lack of titan powers yet he desperately wants to play some significant role in this spiel that is his way of fighting his own infriority complex. Cant wait for you to see him in season 4 tbh

You have Armin who's optimistic. And then you have Mikasa, the most blunt & cynical of them who never really thought of seeing the ocean, rather her want was to just protect what's in front of her, see the people she loves being happy & safe, and she's the one feeling unexpectedly excited for the first time ever since her parents died and being happy at seeing the ocean as if she herself didn't expect herself to feel like this. I think the author put a lot of characterisation in this one scene of the three of them reaching the ocean.

Floch did say "You guys better start telling the truth when you go to enlist more recruits." So the leads me to believe that whoever recruited these cadets did not tell the whole story. He does make a great point "That way, you won't get cowards like me joining by accident." So the recruiter probably lied to them, because they probably needed as much people as possible to take Wall Maria. The point is those new recruits probably did not know what they were about to get into because of the secrets and lies. I don't get why most people hate Floch, because to me he is completely understandable and I can sympathize with him. Btw Floch is not the only person who thinks that Erwin shouldve gotten the injection. Pretty much most of the military people or even the civilians would agree that Erwin shouldve gotten it because to them Armin is a nobody while Erwin is a known figure.

On your point about Abnormal titans being impossible to explain and silly, I had a thought: You saw them injecting the Eldians to turn them into titans and they all grew to different sizes. At one point you guys even mentioned that the guy who killed Grisha's sister (let's call him Stache) said he'd turn one of the Eldians into a 4 meter titan (very specific about his height, unlike the rest). I think it just could be how much of the liquid is injected into them. When Stache mentions turning the Eldian into a 4 meter, he also uses VERY little liquid on that syringe. Maybe if he used a lot more it would make the titans either bigger or in other cases able to move differently and maybe allow them to retain SOME thought process (because Abnormals are known for their weird behaviour and odd movements). Like the Titan in Ilse's Notebook which IMO very clearly still retained at least some form of humanity. Since humans are very fucking weird sometimes, it would also make sense that some Abnormals also behave weirdly. Just my 2 cents.

to "explain" the abnormal titan thing, it's a term that has been there for the longest time in the series, back in episode 1 Keith says they haven't gotten a single clue about titans, all they had was what we learned in episode 5 (nape being the weakpoint, regeneration etc) so "abnormal" was just their way of trying to make sense of titans when they break the usual patterns of titans, similarly they classify titans by height like it's a different variant when it's just height, it's showing how much Paradis lacked knowledge at the time to the point of throwing labels to try and sound like they figured out something, as for the "attracted to high concentrations" thing, Hange meant it would ignore 3 or 4 people if there's like 100 just a little further, which is likely with "abnormals" but not always the case since they classify any weird titan as abnormal, Miche called Zeke abnormal just because it looked weird and ignored him

From the ShingekiNoKyojin subreddit, fans have referred to this as "berserk" mode. What is important for any anime-only watcher of the series to know is that berserk mode, or flame mode, isn't present in the Shingeki no Kyojin manga. This means that berserk mode has no relevance to events further down in the story for the manga. This may change in the anime, and berserk mode may be an important plot point, but I think it's far more likely that Eren will not enter berserk mode again in the series. I think it was just the animators adding a little bit of filler to the Annie fight. Credit Lucas B edit I stole this comment from reddit

@@Daesma999 *spoilers* nope their reaction really opened my mind to a lot of things. Their interpretation on how Paths work, it's implications on Eren is far superior than many manga readers(who just went along with the overused 'Eren is the author of the story' bullshit), they are already bringing up if Eren is being 'preordained' to do certain things or is it his nature (stuff that the Manga left ambiguous till the end)...in the previous review they even mentioned how predestined fate might be a thing for FT and AT since time isn't really linear for them...past, present happening simultaneously(basically what Eren reveals in 139), they brought up how Eren was almost transported in Place of Kruger at that point of time-it wasn't just him seeing those memories, it was him reliving them. All of this even before they get into the Paths segment of the story. Also, season 1 ED, which they brought up, instead of the linked horizon AnR, if the 'parallel' frenzy Manga readers had analyzed that, Mikasa's role and connection with Ymir would've been clearer...although Yams did a shitty job at finally looping her in but ig that was his intend all along.

@@gaslightingsquidward9258 *spoilers* umm...that is not true. 121 is a causal loop...bootstrap paradox also comes into play. If he didn't nudge his father into killing the reiss family, he wouldn't be there in the first place(no FT, no inroad to Paths)...so he had to push his father-he always would have...he looked menacing doing that, it might appear that he orchestrated the whole thing, but isn't it just a paradox? If he didn't, he wouldn't be there. He had to do it for the sake of this 'fixed timeline' under which AoT operates and ofc to fulfil his goals. The thing is, predestiny being involved doesn't strip away Eren of his agency. 139 was abysmal in executing a lot of themes but ig, with regards to Eren, 130 sums it up perfectly 'Even if it was all set in stone from the start, I wanted this...all of it that lies ahead of us'. Eren says as much in 139 "Even if I wasn't aware of how this would end with you guys stopping me, I think I still would've flattened the World'. So the Rumbling, in any case, was a manifestation of Eren's warped up concept of 'freedom'

Here is the explanation for pure titans and abnormals. They are like animals. And they have traits of the original human. So in a population of squirrels, some will be really stupid and get run over by cars. Some are smarter and probably avoid the road as much as possible. Some are risky. Some play it safe. And then there is the human part to it. If it was a particularly strong willed person, they can resist the "titan compulsions". The titan from Ilse's notebook was trying so hard not to eat Ilse but eventually caved in to the compulsion. Connie's mom was able to say welcome home. Basically, there is some variation among titans. Its not as simple as robots mass produced in some factory. Each titan has its own unique genetics and upbringing.

The timing of Grisha going to the Reiss chapel immediately followed by the warrior's first attack is because of the 13 year limit. Marley knew that whoever inherited the Attack Titan was either nearing their end (and hence possibly weaker?) or had already passed it down to the next user (i.e. a novice at controlling its powers), and hence timed the attack to line up with that. Likewise, Grisha knew that his time was almost up, and waited until the end to go to talk to the founding titan. I suppose he wanted to savor his new life with within the walls with Carla and the kids for as long as possible.

Few questions of yours could be answered as anime-only things, like the lightning strike during the titan transformation. It's even inconsistent - sometimes you can see only the light coming from the person - and this is the only thing that actually happens. Have you seen someone comment about a lightning strike? I don't think so, just "a light". Another thing - Ymir's letter to Historia and the flashing images. Remember the episode from S2 that showed Ymir's backstory? This was anime only thing, as her backstory in the manga was shown here at the end of S3 after the big Marley/Eldia reveal in her letter to her lover. Those flashes were to probably quickly convey the already covered material, to show that Historia now knows about it too, besides us - viewers. Also, just a heads up - train your patience as you'll need it when you'll catch up with the anime to not go straight to the manga. By the way, the manga has plenty of differences, you might want to read the material covered already in the anime, but after catching up with S4P1, don't go beyond chapter 114, as chapter 115 has already things that will be adapted into S4P2.

The last 20ish minutes were the absolute right things to be asking and looking forward to in the coming season. I think Will will be thrilled with the philosophical/moral dilemmas in store. Can't wait to watch

Every titan shifter inherits bits and pieces of memories from the previous shifter. How The Owl knew about Mikasa and Armin is kind of a spoiler. Founding Titan can manipulate the memories of Subjects of Ymir bit if a Royal gets it, they're enslaved by first king's will (vow renouncing war) and refuse to do anything. Eren can use the power of the founding titan by coming in contact with a royal who has titan powers(pure titan or titan shifter doesn't matter).

Berserk mode was never in the manga and was created in the anime for that one scene through artistic liberties
