Isayama changes it in the anime for storytelling purposes, she said she would devote her “all” to him, and that implies some heavy things, he then proceeded to call her starry eyed. Probably due to how she wrote about him in her letters. It’s one thing to have a crush, and it’s another thing to write home to your family about a man. And then the fact that the dad went to go speak to him shows that the dad was convinced Petra would marry Levi. How many parent just go talk to a captain? Not unless it’s anything important that pertains to their children. Now idk if Levi felt the same way about her, I’m pretty sure he did, just because it would make the story sadder. And we know isayama would take any opportunity to make us cry. Levi x Petra is cannon for me, but it’s never supposed to happen, it’s perpetuating this sad situation where Levi looses everything and everyone he cares about. Honestly isayama is just an amazing writer and this ep alone gave so much more depth into Petra

Now you can be a delusional fan girl and get jealous over a fictional character, whatever floats your boat. This scene still hurts 5 years later lol. To everyone saying Petra didn't love Levi because of X reason, let me bend your ears for a moment: 1. No where is it mentioned that Petra's father ***wrongly assumed*** marriage. Mr Ral literally says "she wants to devote herself to you in EVERY way and she's thinking about marriage". That's a pretty ginormous leap to make unless Petra actually stated something along those lines. 2. If you go back and re-watch her scenes with Levi you'll see how protective Petra is over Levi. It's subtle, but it's there: barking at him to stay away from titan Eren when he grabbed the spoon, telling Levi to "wait!" when he says he's going to take on 2 titans himself even though HE'S her commanding officer. Again, Levi is above her in command. So I can't imagine her telling him what to do unless she cared deeply about him. 3. Yes Oruo appeared to have feelings for Petra IMO, but nowhere is it confirmed that Petra was going to marry Oruo. This rumor was started by a fake Isayama (creator of AOT) twitter account and was debunked a few years back. 4. The drop the bodies thing was approved by Isayama. He was apart of the meetings when these episodes were being put together, he even says the patch swapping was his idea despite it not being apart of the manga. So yes it's part of the story. It's not a filler - it's an addition. Kind of like the how OVAs are. 5.
