This sounds exactly like my old car. It'll want to start so bad, and it'll take a few times of cranking and pedal pumping but when it finally starts, it runs PERFECTLY. Leave it sitting for more than 20 minutes or so and you've got another 5 minutes of what you heard when Kyle was cranking it.

These early 2.5 engines suffered from a faulty design in the pre-catalytic converter; if the precat failed and broke up, bits and pieces if it would be sucked in through the EGR system, causing valve and cylinder damage. Nissan has since corrected this problem.

It all depends on how you take care of your vehicle. I have a 1995 F-150 302 V8 with 256,000 miles on it, it was a daily driver and a work/farm truck. The body has a bit of rust and the frame was never cleaned so I'm having to replace parts on the frame that have succumb to salt rust but the motor and transmission were taken exceptional care of. Starts and runs like a top, only thing wrong is a leaky rear main, which happens in almost every 5.0 motor from this time, and a leaky transfer case. Engine has never thrown a CEL in its nearly 20 year life.

Well, you see, most people drive the dog shit out of 5.0 mustangs. Those are also aluminum block Coyotes. A bit different than the iron block 302. Aluminum is horsepower, weight reduction. Iron block is more torquey, and more heavy duty. Before I bought mine the alternator was rebuilt, an aluminum high flow water pump was put on it and the radiator had to be replaced (a bird went through it.)
@meteoricthrone10 жыл бұрын
THEGHOSTSLAVE This one was originally owned and driven by my dad's parents. It's problems were caused by sitting in Panama City Beach for several years and being exposed to a lot of humidity and storms. Now, it runs pretty well. Just needed a couple new parts under the hood and an exhaust to replace the one that had holes rusted through it in several places.
@THEGHOSTSLAVE10 жыл бұрын
Well mine is an Indiana truck, so I understand where you're coming from on the humidity part of things. We are usually between 92 and 100% humidity up here in the mid spring to late summer. Then we have salt in the winter for the roads which tears the crap out of body panels.

How did that happen? How to fix it? Poor car
@LOLKINGBABY10 жыл бұрын
It commonly happens when a car is constantly driven for long periods of time, brought from cold too hot again constantly, and just generally being in use for a longer time. That is, assuming it was just the head gasket to blow (most common). A gasket is thin piece of metal meant to seal the join of two parts that have oil and/or coolant jackets (tunnels in the engine block). A Head gasket performs that function, as well as preventing combustion from leaving one cylinder and entering another, or exiting through the side. Head gaskets are easy fixes if diagnosed early, if held off they can cause a lot more issues. The easiest way to tell if a head gasket is blown is to open the oil, or radiator cap and smelling or feeling the oil/coolant (you usually smell the coolant or feel the oil), the oil which is meant for lubrication will feel watery and will dry out if rubbed between your fingers, and the coolant will smell of combustion (exhaust fumes). If he means that the block is blown, basically there was either an over pressuriztion in a defective or weaker area of the block and the pressure, wanted out (which is VERY RARE), or he was racing or over revving or just pushing the engine too hard and a part, usually the connecting rod snaps sending the connecting rod into the side of the cylinder or block breaking through the engine. This is not repairable, you'll need a new block which basically means you need a new engine

***** Why bother when it pertains to an Altima?

that wouldn't really cause a headgasket to blow or leak that is more likely to seize an engine because of the oil losing it;s lubrication factor and a build up of metal particles. But I see where you're getting it from

We bought a 2011 Kia optima off someone for $500 with a blown engine. It had 174k miles on it. It'd start up and run horribly when we got it but then it sat for a few months and the engine fully seized and it wouldn't run anymore period. The man maintained it well for it to last to 174k. The engines had issues and some were going before 10k miles. (metal shavings and debris from manufacturing not removed) we were gonna replace the engine ourselves but after having it sit for a few months kia issued recalls during this time so we got a free engine because the guy had intense maintenance records at the dealership so the dealer knew it had issues related to the recall.

It won't start since the spark plugs are fouled with water (since head gasket is blown letting water mix with oil. It may start after cranking multiple times or removing plugs and clean them. But it will shoot white smoke out of the tail pipe if it starts running. Once it sets again (not running) the water in the oil will foul the plugs again, thus hard starts. This is how starters are burned out from people trying to start a car with a bad engine. These Nissans are cheaply made anyways. Don't bother buying one of these. A real headache to maintain.

GREAT! just bought the exact nissan with blown motor, changed it now the trasmission is slpping is this from the motor problems.

That's because when ever you replace an engine you should replace the transmission as well or either one will go bad
@willc551210 жыл бұрын
Jesus Vazquez More than likely the previous owner drove it with the tranny slipping & said screw it stopped checking the oil. That may be WHY the engine failed. Its why I would buy the car with the bad tranny over the bad motor cause at least u can hear the motor run & see it warm up to temp. My mechanic got a cad deville in from a BHPH lot. Tranny went cust kept driving it, the motor went then cust stopped paying. So car lot paid mechanic to put in a motor mech went to test drive it & tranny was shot. in all car lot had about $6,000 tied up in a 96 deville N* :) 6K plus whatever they originally paid for the car:)

I am halfway done with a tuneup of an 02 I got, drove it like it is stolen, replaced several things. The engine is in great condition, but not other things. You have to know what you are doing to save these engines.

my dad has had his 2002 altima 2.5s for 10 years and never EVER had a single problem with it

I think the "Service Engine Soon" light is a bit of an understatement.
@IKhanNot15 жыл бұрын
It's beyond me that people would even purchase the 2.5 when the VQ35 engine is one of the best engines around. Potent power, durability and very smooth in operation. If you go to a Nissan Dealership service bay you will see tons of 2.5 engines with holes drilled in the block due to bad engines.

My cousin has that same car and i think its doing that now too. I read that this year eat oil like crazy and causes engine failure. Hers also had no oil on the dipstick.

I have an '03 Altima that's a standard! Yeah! A STANDARD ALTIMA! They had those

Wild guess but it has 100k on it....what about the timing belt? I don't hear any rod knock...maybe the timing belt slipped, i don't know the replacement interval for altimas but that would explain it doing that little popping.

what ever happened to this car? we’re y’all able to revive it and sell it or was it just scrapped? i remember watching this video 10 years ago lol
@T-Rex-nm1se3 жыл бұрын
I'm willing to guess that this was scrapped. If it was fixed they would've done a video on it. It's been 11 years now and no new video has come out about this Nissan

I'd def buy that car if fixed up. Still deciding on what my first car should be
@xXFr0gXx11 жыл бұрын
If your car won't start, try adding aftermarket decals. They'll add about +5hp/decal so 3 would be enough to get a blown motor running again. I find that GReddy and Apexi work the best, but you can use HKS or Volk. Source: 10 year ASE master rice technician.

Where are your other videos you made on the 2003 Nissan altima
@Thecarguy125412 жыл бұрын
These engines die from top end problems. Often the pre-cat is suck in and damages the rings, piston, or bore. The bottom end is typically fine, I believe this engine was replaced anyways.

For future reference, the hood prop is attached to the hood instead of the normal radiator frame support.

I have an 06 2.5 with 180,000 on it. Original engine and trans still going strong. I'm not easy on it and drive the parkway/interstate 5-6 days a week
@sideburns200914 жыл бұрын
@kendrickevans301 It's going to mix because the engine creates a vacuum when rotated. A spark plug will not ignite if all cylinders are flooded because they will be wet. I was just pointing out that pumping the gas will just allow short bursts of more air in, while turning it over. It did increase chances of this thing starting had it not had low compression, probably due to a blown head gasket, which is common on these 2.5 altima's.
