Her hairdresser didn't give her layers, she asked for layers and left with her hair a little shorter, but still straight (and a few layers in front, from the bangs), of course she went home and cut her own hair (and on top of that, she did a better job of getting layers on the entire length of the hair). Can I ask, if you do the same thing as Mia, but instead of cutting straight across, could you cut an upside down V shape? And would it make the layers sit a bit less blunt and straight across? Hairdresser here! This is generally how I cut my own hair, more or less! It’s a solid technique, but where people on tiktok go wrong is cutting into their length, making their ends super uneven. My biggest tip would be to HEAVILY point cut each section rather than just a big chop straight across. Everything will look much softer and more blended 😊

This way of cutting hair was as far as I know, discovered in the early 1970's with the shag hair cut. I was in beauty culture class then learning how to be a beautician as they called hair stylists back then. My teacher Miss Gromby was demonstrating on my hair the new style of the shag. She proceeded to pull all of my hair forward attached a rubber band and cut. The final result, short layers to long layers. This was revolutionary because prior to that, hair was cut short at the nape of the neck to long layers on the crown of the head. Vidal Sason invented the shag cut, but in my mind miss Gromby invented the rubber band technique to get the same results at home.

@@bella-nina yes, I wish I could post photos. When you pull your Hair forward make sure it is a little damp and smooth. When you attach the rubber band you'll get better layers that way. Also before cutting the ends you can put another rubber band where you want your layers to be so when you do the cut it will be more even.

U could also by a semi permanent pink hair color and put a little bit in your conditioner. I can recommend the shade cerise from directions. Its pretty dark, but so pigmented. I had pink hair over the last half year and not gonna lie, a TEA spoon with lots of conditioner was enough to dye and refresh my whole head. I only have shoulder length though. So u for your idea u probably only need like half of a tea spoon and lots of conditioner:)

Well to be fair, she went in without any reference photos, and said she was going to ask for "long layers" Long layers means you have barely any layers, close to ur length. Lots of layers, preserving the length, is what she actually wanted. Those are two very different things 🤣 wording is everything, which is why it's better to just have a reference photo, because what you think you see and how you would describe a photo, is very different from what your hair stylist sees, and how they would describe the same photo. That goes for both cuts and colors!

This metamorphosis that Mia has undergone from not wanting to do ANYTHING to change her hair for fear it wouldn't work out to now just going for what makes her happy is so funny and so relatable. I had a bad experience with a kid cutting my hair at a sleepover when I was very young that forced me to have an incredibly unflattering hairstyle which I hated for months until it grew out. Adorable! I haven’t been to a stylist, since I discovered the pony tail cut, 8 years ago. No need to do the different series of cuts…just pull it all to the front, band it at your hairline and cut it to the length that you want your shortest layer. Chop up the cut a little bit, before letting it down. The layers will happen naturally. I love it on you!

You did reverse layering/face framing layers. Basically when you take all the hair from the back and bring forward to create soft layers at the back and more layers around the face. If you did this but used a point cut method you wouldn't have the choppy look. Basically instead of horizontal vertical cutting into hair.

I wouldn't even know that you'd cut this yourself if you hadn't filmed it. I've used this technique to cut layers into my own hair and I have to try to practice self-control to refrain from cutting them shorter... Which I'm probably going to do when I next have to wash my hair LOL. It honestly looks SO GOOD on you and I'm jealous!!!

I have rainbow hair! Quarantine hair for the win. You could do pastel colors on the tips and if your hair fries eventually you just cut that section off. Good job on the hair!

I think when she got with her boyfriend she obviously wanted some privacy so she made the apartment arrangement and she didn’t tell us before because she was keeping the boyfriend situation private and then it would just get confusing but I think it’s just so she can have some privacy with her bf and even for herself from her parents house
