A simple thing that I noticed. Some of those brass fittings that you left in the carburetor are the jets. The jets are usually removed and cleaned while removed from the carburetor. Try pulling some out and inspecting that they aren't clogged and all the tiny holes are clear.

Your best bet would be to check the compression of that motor. If the test looks good then you should get some new plugs and if required new ignition coils. If the compression test does not look good find if your problem is the headgasket or at worse case scenario if your block is cracked. Also you should check the piston rings of the engine - which is an easy test - : put your finger over the crankcase ventilation port and crank the engine. If you can feel barely any pressure you are probably fine but if you feel quite a good bit of pressure then you should investigate those rings. If I where you I would not spend money before doing these tests. Most of these problems - except the cracked block - are easy more or less to fix at home with a few hand tools and a bunch of time and patience. I really hope that you manage to get this bike started.

Well it would probably help if you had the throttle hooked up as well. And you should have a gas tank hooked up so you don’t have to worry about filling up the float bowls with gas
@brendenfedorowicz78597 жыл бұрын
the reason it won't fire up on the gas in the carbs is because when you ripped them apart from each other you got them out of sync, no you need a carb synchroniser and you have to start the bike while its hooked up, check what needs to be changed, take them off of the bike, change it, then put them back on the bike and do the whole thing again until the carbs are tuned properly
@wheeln24-797 жыл бұрын
I hope you read this. I was a motorcycle mechanic and I'll tell you exactly what's wrong. The oil seal in the coolant pump is bad and needs to be changed that's why oil is getting into the coolant. Common problem for old motorcycles. It's a cheap fix probably like $50. Also if you run a bottle with fuel and a fuel line going to the carbs and it'll fire up and run for as long as you want it to. They make cheap motor "IV" bottles you can buy if you don't want to make one. It sounds fine! It's gonna be fast in whatever you build. Plus those Honda F3 motors sound amazing! One of my favorite bikes!

I have the same bike in my garage, a 1995 CBR 600 F3. It has 4,000 miles on it. I was hit by a truck that ran a red light in 1997. I broke my left knee cap in two and it ended up on the wrong side of my leg. The bike was repaired at the Honda dealer and sent back to my house. I haven't ridden the bike since then. It is still in my garage. I attempted to get it running again November 2017 after the last attempt of starting it and riding it to the end of the driveway and back in say 1999. But, that is as far as it had moved since then. I did get it running with constantly spraying starter fluid into the carbs. But then all of a sudden it started running horrible. One of the coils went bad and the ignition box the black square box right under the seat was bad. I ended up replacing both coils and the ignition box. I got it running good enough on 18 year old gas to take it to the gas station 2 miles away to refill it. It did start running better on new gas, enough to take it to the interstate. I started twisting the throttle wide open and all it would do is sputter. I could get the bike to say 90 mph in 5th gear but that was as fast as the bike would go. 6th gear would just bog out. But, the longer I did that the better it started to run. The final attempt to get it running better, I was at about 75 mph in 3rd gear with the throttle wide open. Black smoke was pouring out the back, then all of a sudden it smoothed out to about 9000 rpms then the front tire came off the ground all the way to 15,000 rpm. I remembered why I became scared of it. I backed off at about 145mph in 5th gear and it has plenty to go. I think the final carb opened up. It was unbelievably running smooth though. Something I noticed in the video when you got yours finally started. Yours isn't smooth at all. It should be as smooth as a clock work. To me it really could be a cracked head or a blown head gasket. But, I let mine set for a month and came back to it. And now it doesn't start at all. Well it does with constantly spraying starter fluid in it. The Honda dealer says that the carbs seats need to be replaced because of the alcohol now in the gas. So, if you want to get it to start and run well, you probably should look into that. I'm looking to replace my carbs rather than fix them. If you want any pictures of the parts of mine, just let me know.

@allenmckinney95337 жыл бұрын
One thing that can keep the fuel from being pulled from the float is a vacuum leak between the carbs and block. I had a few briggs engines that would fire on ether but not on gas. After I put some sealant on the seals after the carb they fired right up.
@damienpayne7 жыл бұрын
Since it runs on starter fluid, something is wrong with fuel delivery. How far did you tear down the carbs? Has the jets, jet tubings been cleaned? Idle lines cleaned? :)
@trevormallow27887 жыл бұрын
Echoing some of the other comments, without the negativity, I'd definitely replace the head gasket. Then get the entire air box assembled and feed the fuel from the actual fuel tank and see where you stand from there. The oil in the coolant is a very strong indicator the head gasket is blown or at least leaking.
@rpmjunky27957 жыл бұрын
Sometimes if the gas tank isn’t on it won’t create a good enough vacuum to suck the gas in. Also if it’s backfiring that’s a fuel, spark, or stator issue

The green crapnin the carbs is residue from water corrosion on the brass bits in the carb. The most likely culprit is using ethanol fuel and improper storage. Should not be an issue in the future if you run good fuel. The next thing you should do is a compression check on all cylinders and if they check out, get the carbs tuned.

Put a proper ignition switch on it. Ebay usually has cheap new switches. Or figure out the wiring better. May need more than one jumper to get continuous spark. I had a ttr225 missing a switch and i needed to jump a wire for the power and another for run then could start off the start button. If I only jumped the power. I would only get spark for a second (enough to hear run) . Also bike may have switch on the kick stand or neutral that may keep from running.

Andrew Meadors so I guess I’m some dipshit that doesn’t have a clue. There’s obviously some problem solving that needs to be diagnosed. I’m not there. If you had bothered to read my other comment. You may have already figured out that I had already realized that. I just didn’t assume. When you can see a very obvious problem you tend to go the basics. What I thought was funny was all the people saying don’t waste your time and money. Omg! That’s a cracked block and cracked head. I’ve replaced many head gaskets, but never a motorcycle. Especially a Honda.

Nice vid man, What i recommend/See: Do a compression test to start. Then do a leak-down test and obviously your gonna pull it of the chassis so tear it down in a video and get a good look at it good or bad. Then if you get leaks and or bad compression Tear down the head and have a wee look see. Its a 92? so the valves are probably tired. Check to see if the heads are a slight gold/yellow color near the pistons/valves and or chalky white color to indicate overheating. IMO thats alot of oil for a head-gasket leak. Maybe the dude was dumb and tried to make antifreeze with oil who knows. If its just a head-gasket then move forward with the carb restoration get a carb kit x4 and some carb cleaner and really go through each one especially all the jets it sounded to me like it was running real rich (more gas than air opposed to lean more air than gas). Try some new plugs NGK CR9EH-9. If then your spark still isn't so good might be time to check the gap on the coils if the gap is fine then may be the coils.... Process of elimination really with electrical problems like this. The thing is with CDI's are they work or the dont not kinda sorta. Check the stator voltage should be bout 25ac or so up to the regulator and the 11-14 out maybe 15 if your 5k+ but since it only runs for a second you wont get to 5k lol. Stators are funky they die over time ask the previous owner if he had a hard time keeping the battery charged thats a first sign. (basically its the alternator for small engines). CDI's are usually wicked pricey unless you can find a used one etc same with stators and regulators.

At the begining . The ice is from just running straight water. The oil in it could be bad rings or maybe bad seals if its oil but it could be block sealer
@user-neo716657 жыл бұрын
Best bet on that thing is to strip it down and hope you can get your money back on parts. There is nothing wrong with the oil because they changed the oil (with some cleanish used oil) before they tried to sell it hoping for a sucker. Old used car trick. That bike needs a complete tear down and rebuild. Get mad but that seems to be way over your head on a bike like this. You want a project like that get an older simpler bike. You are in over your head.

I like watching your vids mate..... You struggle and learn from your mistakes, which is a good thing! BUT!....... I don't know if anyone has mentioned in the comments, Put the fuel tank back on the bike and connect ALL the pipework up to the fuel tap... You'll find a small VACUUM PIPE that connects to the tap, it usualy comes from the left inlet tract just infront of the carburretor rubber and it MUST be connected.......... OR.. if your going to use a small remote fuel tank just to get it running, the vacuum pipe has to be blocked off or else the motor draws too much air and won't start or when it does fire up it revs its tits off for a few seconds and dies... Most good service shops would use a remote fuel tank when the have the motor running with the fuel tank off in order to Ballance the carbs etc.... Trust me..... more than 36 years in the trade and ive learned an awfull lot as well as making many a mistake.!! haha!! Good luck mate.... Keep knocking the vids out.. Thanks...

Ho...... nearly forgot.... On most of the CBR600 ive worked on, they have an oil cooler between the Oil filter and the engine block.... They tend to rot from the inside out, especialy if the cooling system has never been looked after... (A lot of cars have the same system and suffer the same ailments!)..... That could be your "Oil in the water" issue... And one last thing..... If you strip the carbs down again, or at least take the float bowls off.. try and remove all the Jets (The little BRASS things you mentioned!) especialy the PILOT JETS and give them a blow through with an air line... Don't just rely on some magic potion carb cleaning solvent... The PILOT JETS control your engines idle... And i hope you removed the Digaphrams (the round(ish) rubber things under the round black caps on top of the carbs)... before dipping them in solvent.. and if you did.. I hope you made sure that they are seated perfectly because that will effect the starting and running...... and again, if you did remove them........ Arent those springs a nice job to get back in???!!! haha! Get a workshop manual........ It will help you greatly......
@Rx_Lee7 жыл бұрын
I have seen alot of that green residue in the bottom of carbs, its from the gasoline from it sitting around and not getting ran. You need to blow out the jets with a air compressor and clean that residue out of the pilot jet, just soaking it will not completely clean it.

How did you check for water in the oil? In my experience, you cant just look at it so I've started doing the sizzle test. You put a small amount on a noncombustible surface like aluminum foil and try to light it on fire; if it just smokes you're good, if it looks like some of it is boiling (i.e. bubbles) the head gasket shit the bed.
@steveww077 жыл бұрын
engines naturally have humidity in them (condensation), how do you account for that?
@dyam85817 жыл бұрын
You're right, the air in the engine can condense. But in my experience, it will boil off with the heat produced from running the engine. However if the engine only ever goes on short trips and/or never sees the powerband it could be more problematic than not. My buddy had a truck that he rarely used and it would get some water drops on the oil fill cap when the humidity went back up in the summer. What I do is run the old oil to circulate it through all the galleries and if I think the engine is good for it I run it through the rpms to get some heat in there. After that, I'll change the oil and let that run for a bit and then test both oil samples. I do this at every oil change. I will say that it's a cheap and dirty test and I'm sure there are faster, better or more scientific methods but it has seemed to work for me so far and even saved my bacon once.

Your problem is those carbs when you cleaned them you didn't even take out the main jet or the pilot jet you have to take those out and blow compressed air through it or find something small enough to poke through the hole in the jet that's why it runs off starter fluid and not the gas in the float Bowl give it a shot I ran into the same problem.
