I'm just gonna say that rediming Draco only happens if you read it completely and try to get into his mind, and understand the effect the runs have. But, in a perspective Draco its not a good person, Hermione is not a good person. Everyone is fucked up, and after reading it I'm fucked too

I agree i think the point is that no one's really a completely "good" person when it comes to survival and war.

honestly im too scared to read manacled because I HATE Dramione, like I just cannot get into it no matter how hard I try. The thought that like Draco literally bullies Hermione in canon and now people write love stories about them kind of just scares me?? I also hate dark romance and like everyone seems someone traumatized from reading it?? I don't know, there is plenty of great fanfics that I have loved out there like ATYD, but fanfic is genuinely scary sometimes.

Draco was a 11 yrs old boy when he was a bully.....children grow up....Harry Potters father was a bully aswell. In this fanfic they are 21/22 in flashbacks and 25/26 in present day.

If you've seen/read Handmaid's Tale you'll notice a lot of the dark details are nods to that(noncon, some of the mutilations, etc.). I think having seen Handmaid's Tale I was also given hope during Manacled that someone who hasn't seen HmT may not have. The set up is very dark and makes you think there's no way out, reinforces that thought multiple times and that lends to the intensity of relief you get when escape is successful. The level at which you're rooting for the enslaved to be free is pushed to peak intensity through the intensity of the dark elements. So in that sense, I think they do serve a purpose. I really recommend anyone going into reading Manacled first give Handmaid's Tale a try. In my opinion, Handmaid's Tale is actually much more desolate, so if you can get through that to see the light at the end, you can get through Manacled. I think the noncon scene that ultimately made you(the KZbinr) quit was the last one in the book. Shortly after that you go into the flashbacks which make up half of the book and are followed by a return to the present, leading up to the resolution. I also almost quit reading it at only like 6 pages because i was worried certain elements would be too prevalent. There are some scenes that legitimately F*d me up. But the intensity of the book, the tension and the relief given intermittently, especially during the flashback chapters, made it worth it for me. The way out of the enslaved, or 'manacled', situation was genuinely the most thrilling and unique thing I've ever read. Ps. In case anyone was wondering, actual sex scenes overshadow and outnumber the noncon scenes.

I think people who have very polorized or black and white thinking will have a very hard time to redeem Draco in their own head. It important to remember that the whole world of Manacled is set in a very very dark world. Nobody is innocent. Everyone does dark things for the sake of survival. I don't think it was Senlinyu's intention to fully redeem Draco's actions. I think for me atleast it's a beautiful way of depicting the complexities of people and of life and how nothing is straight forward. I hope I'm making sense 🤣🤣 I know that dark fanfic is not for everyone so I can understand why some people DNF it.

Hold on , I thought this was going to have thousands of views. 😅 But I can smell them tho. I'm not into fanfics and absolutely hate Byronic hero ships ( like Zuko and Katara) . But find it interesting and definitely understand the appeal to it.

listen, some people are into noncon and thats whatever, but i just CANNOT read a character like hermione just suffering for several hundred thousand words in a world where her intellect and magical power Doesn’t Matter At All. i don’t understand the manacled girlies and i’m ok with that, good for them LMAO great review!

To me the worst thing is to know she was right and her best friends didn't trust her or understood her. She was all alone, even when she was with Harry and Ron

as someone who read and BARELY made it through manacled about a year or two ago, i totally agree that theres no way to make a character come back from what draco did...like what?? its so graphic and dark and the way hermione suffers from like Stockholm syndrome, how he "lets her outside," and literally every other part of this book makes me nauseous??? I didnt like draco the whole time cause he is AWFUL (ik, ik, theyre making him or whatever) which made it difficult to read. Overall don't understand how people like this but like go them ig...

its strange because i also was like 'how does bro come back from this' cause there was literally like 70 chapters left and i was like how does bro come back from the ATROCITIES hes committed and even though i read the whole thing and did fall in love with their relationship during the flashbacks and it just makes the beginning of the book that much more heartwrenching. but i 100% agree that draco is not a redeemable character in this fanfic even if 'hes being made to do it'
