Good video mate , But on the Speedo it looks like there’s five or six k’s an hour difference when you first start the tests with and with out lock up on . Is there a reason for that because mine does the same especially when there’s a difference in speed .

Most modern autos have this issue. The Ford Ranger has a terrible auto trans, should look at that as well if you haven’t.

How will this effect towing? What I find is that when towing it kick down to low of a gear while 5th should be enough to get the job done. It's like from 6th straight to 4th or even 3rd when it hit the slightest hill. Will this make it shift back gradually say from 6th to 5th then 4th? Also will it make manual shift manual. Because in manual shift mode it still go back gears by itself even if I leave it in 6th. Manual shifting is basically useless in the 200. If this kit fixes all the problems as mentioned I will get my 2018 tuned vx done for sure.

It will make it stay in top gear for much longer. It's a huge improvement in the way the vehicle drives, especially when towing!

Do you change other shift points or only 5 -6? I not in mine it loves to hold onto 1st and 2nd up to 3000rpm if I want to get off the mark at a reasonable pace. Frankly it feels like it would be happier to shit up earlier and let the torque do the job.

@@ausguy4385 Max power occurs at 3600rpm but max torque at 1600 - 2600 rpm. I have no,problem with the car revving up to 3000rpm and beyond when looking to accelerate more briskly but the gearbox wants to rev to 3000 rpm at every opportunity. That is well beyond maximum torque and pretty pointless when just driving with the traffic.

If you are reprogramming the gearbox ecu why do you need a converter lockup kick kit. Surely you can simply reprogramming the computer you can simply change the torque converter lock up parameters as well without needing a seperate override to lock up the converter earlier? Or are you unable to change the transmission programming for the torque converter lockup?

They have two different purposes, Peter. The lock up kit controls the actual converter lock up & will activate when it reaches the set speed of approx. 80kph. So from this speed onwards, the converter is locked & below this speed it is unlocked. The trans tune solves the problem of it shifting into 6th gear too late & dropping back to 5th too early. The torque converter lock up stops converter slip, the flaring & the hunting; reducing engine RPM, improving fuel economy & reducing trans oil temp.

As the computer in the stock vehicle also controls the torque converter lock-up parameters, is it simply that the software changes you make to the gearbox don’t allow you to change those parameters as well to do the same thing? I ask only because of my innate preference to avoid as many add on modules and wiring changes as possible for reasons of pure simplicity when travelling in remote areas. I quite understand that the software you are using may not be able to change the torque converter lock up within the main gearbox computer as the manufacturers hate letting people mess with their own programming no matter how poorly they may have done it themselves.

no it's just the diesel, the US gets a different transmission although a 6 speed until 2016 where it changed to an 8 speed

It still works as per normal - as in the lockup will still turn on at about 80kph. So it's all good.

Hi there, I just imported my 2020 V8 diesel 200 series to Hungary, Europe. Is there any solution you do the remap online somehow or send the software on email and I let it upload somewhere? It would cost a fortune to send the ECU to Australia and back with insurance and in case it get lost somewhere I cannot buy a new one here in Europe. Any solution guys? Thanks a lot

I wouldn't want my transmission to be locked up above 80Km/hr. I think it is a bad idea because kickdowns provide passing power on the highway. Imagine trying to overtake someone at over 80Km/hr & trans is locked up!!! 🤔

Thats the point mate - it's like having a manual car, it doesn't kickdown gears anymore, holds the torque on, therefore overtaking is much better & much more effortless 👍

Just like a tune they have to prove it causes a failure. As for warranty with the trans this is actually better for the trans. A steady gear keeps it much cooler then a constant 500+ rpm change every time you come to a slight hill
