Wow! Thank you, Dr. Goodin! You've simplified 'reinforcement' and 'punishment' in the best way for me to learn it. POSITIVE = TO ADD (+) & NEGATIVE = TO TAKE AWAY ( -- ) When I wrote my notes, and to learn it for the exam, I use '+', '--', and '='. POSITIVE REINFORCEMENT -- ADD something of value Correct footwork in basketball = (+ praise) (+ decals) (+ prizes) (+ awards) NEGATIVE REINFORCEMENT -- TAKE AWAY something aversive Enthusiasm and great hustle in practice = ( -- wind sprints at the end of the session) POSITIVE PUNISHMENT -- ADD something aversive fumble = (+ push-ups) (+ sprints) NEGATIVE PUNISHMENT -- TAKE AWAY something of value Lack of effort = ( -- privileges) ( -- playing time) Those 2 simple lines from you changed everything for me! I appreciate you, Dr. Goodin! Until next time!

As someone who struggles with attention, to focus and therefore staying motivated, it is incredible when a coach or a team remains positive and encourage me to perform better at any given task. A team success can be a reflection of a great encouraging coach!

I think it is cool that a coach is able to promote athletes to make their own routines so that way their selective attention to the task at hand is improved, allowing them to perform better. Thank you!

I think that the fact that the ability to focus is something that is learned is really important. A lot of times people use being overstimulated or inability to focus as an excuse but it is something that has to be learned and practiced!

I think selective attention is fascinating. I love watching professional athletes like Steph Curry who can shoot free-throws during the intense playoff games that are away and execute it so calmly even with all the noise and distractions in front of them! Also so awesome to learn about reinforcement and how we can use that to help our athletes and motivate them in a way that supports and grows them!

This video helped me understand how positive reinforcement can often be more effective than punishment, so that the athlete can focus on what they are doing correctly, rather than incorrectly.

Positive and negative reinforcement is so important for learning as it helps not only the athlete learn, but also the coach in what kin of feedback is best for their specific population.

Crazy, the days an athlete feels not motivated or their focus may be on other things outside of sports, which is super common for student athletes who have so much going on, they struggle to show active engagement and involvement. The mind is so powerful!

The part of this video that stood out to me was how many athlete have a specific routine to get them in the zone before a competition. This is something I have done for myself and seen in athletes when I am working as an AT student at different games.

The overall message of this video is very beneficial for all athletes and coaches. Coaches should strive to implement positivity and motivation within their practice sessions, which will cause the team/athletes to train like they are playing in a gam setting. This will ultimately improve performance and team chemistry.

Regarding MAS and MAF, which one is more optimal for athletes? Or does that depend on the individual? Because for both motives I feel like that can push the individual to work harder and both can end up with positive results.
