Thank you so, so much for Regis video! I have a cockatiel who has been through multiple homes before we took him in, and he has a VERY deeply ingrained screaming habit. I've since taught him to use a forging tray to keep him busy, but he still hasn't taken to the other foraging toys I've offered. We're making improvements, but we still have a long way to go!

My IRN used to scream for me and I solved the issue by turning living room into a bird room & got him budgie mates/entertainment seen as currently cannot find a suitable IRN to rescue or adopt. lol Birds are social animals & 99% of time they need friends.

I am working from home and attention screaming was a BIG problem since I am on conference call all the time. What I did was the following. 1. There are periods of the day where my bird (a young parrotlet) is very interested into what I am doing. I spent time with her face to face to make her imitate one of my soft whistling. Within few minutes she started to imitate it very well. I guess I was lucky. 2. Now for 3 days straight, I completely ignored her attention screaming. As soon as she was silent for few seconds, I was quickly going back to her room while doing that soft whistle. If she was starting to scream, I was turning around and leaving. 3. During that same period. If she was randomly doing that whistle, I was immediately going back to her room. I did a lot of back and forth on that whistle. I know it was 3-4 days of hell. But she now COMPLETELY stopped that screaming. She did not do it for weeks now. She does softly whistle a lot, but now at least I can investigate what is wrong without having to deal with this screaming all the time.

My birds only make noise when I forget what time it is. All five have their own room with a climbing net that covers the full ceiling. But after they eat, they get to come out to their play stand. And at 4pm, they get their nutriberries. If I am not there at 4, I get yelled at. But generally, they are quiet. They have lots of foraging toys. Before moving here, they were in the living room. But now their room is just off the living room. They come out a bit but generally, stay in the room, and the door is always open.

Hi! Hope you and your animals are doing well. I sent you a question through Instagram. I would really appreciate your help on this because I'm stumped. I'll leave the message here too (sorry it's quite long): I have a Green Cheek named Charlie and if you don't mind I'd really appreciate your help if that's ok? I want to start teaching him tricks but for some reason he just doesn't get clicker training? I found this extremely odd as every bird I've seen has understood the concept within ten minutes - I get each bird is different but I've had at least an hour total training time spread over a week or so and he still just doesn't understand. However he does understand how to target train and caught onto that pretty quickly. He also understands that when I go into the cupboard it's because I'm about to get him a seed, when I touch the latch on his cage I'm about to open it and when I grab the blanket I'm about to cover his cage and put him to bed. These are all much more difficult concepts to grasp. I then thought maybe he's auditory impaired, but that's definitely not the case. I then decided maybe I should just go straight on to teaching him how to spin seeing as he's so eager to target train, but again, he didn't get the idea. From my perspective it seems that he's so focused on the idea of him about to get the seed that he isn't thinking about anything else - I'm not sure. It would be absolutely great if you could help me with this - I'm trying to harness train him right now, and then would definitely be alot easier if he was clicker trained. I'm also in the process of potty training him, which is going well (another difficult concept he's got hold of very quickly) but I'm sure clicker training would speed it up - just in general it's a very good skill for him to have I think.

I think my cockatiel has imprinted on cloth like objects like towels and socks, so when he sees them and I take them away, he flock calls. This means I can’t wear socks or have blankets or towels or anything in my house lol. He flock calls to my husband but not me. He will do exactly this, scream for hours or even the whole day. It’s really hard not to reinforce it inadvertently lol

Hes a destructive birb 😂 I think foraging might be a little hard for him right now because he broke his femur a week ago and getting around and holding things is not his strong suit and may not be for a few more weeks. Can I use target training and positive reinforcement to get him interested in toys?

In most cases so long as you continue to handle them regularly you won’t really run in to problems like that with adding a second bird. All birds are individuals however so it is possible that they may be less inclined to seek attention from you specifically or they may reserve specific bonding behaviours for their bird friend instead.

I am having a difficult scenario, within about 10 minutes of shutting my birds in the cage, they constantly scream to be let out again, I made sure to not reinforce this in any way but not sure how to mold this into something positive, sure Icould teach them to ring a bell instead of scream, but in the end they still want to come out, they dislike being in the cage, I made it as engaging as humanly possible with foraging, but they get bored within 5 minutes, and toys they don't care for

I don't have a Bird Sanctuary for all these toys. You have toys in a Cage 🎉 which shouldn't cause this screaming. This is a matter of being untamed by the actual owner. Now I have a "Green Cheek Consue," which doesn't like anyone. Due to an owner not being able to give her, his time. I'm now the Bird Owner, and I really don't appreciate being bitten by a Bird. Furthermore, this is a Bird, Not to be in Cages for their Life. I let my Conuse out everyday. Then when it's time to sleep, she goes to sleep. I Love my New Green Cheek Consue, She wants to make friends w/me, then when I approach her, she backs onto a corner. This is a form of neglect from the first owner. Any suggestions to make her trust me. She flutters her wings a lot. She can't fly far. Any need to know Thank You!

@@Sarapontmercy parrots are social animals and it’s true that a parrot can understand another parrot the best, but just because you put two parrots together doesn’t mean they’ll be buds. If you are fine with having twice as much noise and costs and birds that may not get along to the point they are aggressive, you may get another bird. Obviously these things aren’t certain, but it’s better than another parrot being rehomed and going through that pain or another parrot being injured. If getting multiple birds goes with your lifestyle and you are ready for the worse, then go for it.
