Such a valuable activity for enrichment with birds! Many people seem to expect birds to just sit around when there's so many fun things they can be doing!

Our Parrotlets could be twins lol. I just love making new perches and toys for Lilly. My next project for her is learning how to steam/bend wood for even more custom stuffs. Here is an idea for a video (or even a book!): Origami is for the Birds. Featuring origami art that is great for foraging birds. This could Include the best types of paper to use, DIY food save glues, food safe ink. Like beet juice, cherry juice, as well as corn starch or flower for glues. (A book could feature laser print/cut designs with fold and cut marks, recopies etc.)

This helps so much! None of my birds like toys, it was easy to get my baby cockatiel to forage, and after a wile I got my female cockatiel to play and chew on toys. My budgies didn’t like it at all, but my little budgie (lemon) saw Charlie (male cockatiel) chewing, he was interested and would go over and nibble on that foot toy. I also found that all my birds love cork 😂. Lemon now chews on toys more requalary, not a ton but it is progress. And now lime has an interest in cork and I am hopping that will lead to more playing with toys. I also love the bowl foraging trick. I tie two plates togesther, and add some holes. Then stuff it with tons of toys and crinkle paper. It is my birds favorite activity

So many great tips here! Vine balls can also be used kinda like the finger traps are used here! My cockatiels love foraging for millet out of vine balls! They can see the millet, but have to break through the vines to get to it!

I bought a cockatiel about 5 months ago (she is my third bird) I would love to give foraging toys and things but she isn't very food motivated she seven months now and I've trained her just fine with only praise but she won't eat treats and she doesn't shred or even chew toys she just likes to hold them in her beak and favor plastic toys I took her to a vet and she is fine she hasn't learned how to use toys how do you think I should teach her. Sorry for the long comment I just want to make the best life for my bird. Love your vids Thanks for the tutorial

Especially if you your bird is bonded to, sit out side her cage and destroy a toy and make it look fun, if she starts to get intreasyed, let her out but don’t let her get the toy, this will peak her interest more bc she wants something she can’t have. You did say you have more birds, this is how I got my budgies to play with toys. Let your cockatiels play with a easy shredding toy. (Kabob or something softer) make sure your bird is interested and let her watch the bird destroy it. Bc she is a baby she probably doesn’t know how to play with toys and having a flock or just other birds teach her! Good luck!

If they eat any dry food (like pellets) at any point you could try adding a little bit of crinkled paper on top of it and gradually add a little bit more until they’re pulling small toys and paper out of their dish to get their dry food. I wouldn’t do it with veggies though since they go bad pretty quick.

How would you approach traumatised birds that are scared of you for justifyable (from their perspective) reasons. We had to medicate one of them the first week we got them as one was ill, it's been 1.5 years and everytime I try something new I end up going backwards with them which takes forever to undo but if I don't do anything, they will never go out of their comfort zone foodwise and interaction wise. I feel like such a failure not being able to earn their trust and not being able to get them to really eat a variety of vegetables.

Hi, thank you so much for this video, I was wondering if you could give an idea with treats like sunflower seeds how many a Conure should have as a foraging treat a day, no sunflowers are added to her chop, or her sprouted meal, they are only used as treats to forage?

How would you recommend going about changing a bird's cage? I have one budgie and I've had her for around 2 years now and she is pretty tame and I want to upgrade her cage to this bigger flight cage but I'm not sure how to go about it. I worry that she will be scared of the new cage or miss her old one. This may be a really simple thing idk. Any tips? Love your vids and I would be so grateful if you answer ❤

Thank you for such a great video. My birds have gotten so smart that they find everything out in the open quickly. I have 2 budgies and a green Cheek Conure. When I hide seeds in a toy like the planet pleasure pineapple, they don't understand that they should tear apart the toys to get to the seeds, even when they know that the seeds are there. I'm in a quandry. Part of me thinks maybe it's good that they don't know to tear things up and then again these toys are basically useless unless they do... Also, Do your birds like each other?

Thank you for an educational video. Can you please a video about how you deal with people visiting. My GC conure is super sweet with us, he is very quite and doesn't bite us, but when people come over they often want us to take the bird out. However, it makes me nervous, because, even if he behaves with us, he can easily bite strangers. Should we avoid to take him out with other people around? Is there is a way to teach him to be friendly with strangers?
@bolt14374 жыл бұрын
I'd simply say no to the guests. GC usually don't like more than a few people and may bite in that scenario.

hi! i have a lovebird, it's been with us for 2 months. it's fairly tame, occasional bites when it's nervous. BUT, he/she is showing no interest for any kind of toys. we tried with wooden toys, rope toys, nothing. also, he/she doesn't bite anything hard - cardboard or wood, just plain paper (and our fingers :)) vegetables or fruit are also a big no. i watched your video about picky birds and it gave me some ideas :) maybe not enough time has passed so the bird is still not accustomed to us or it's a bird with strong character :) the cage is open all day long - he/she doesn't like being inside, but he/she just sits/sleeps on top of the cage (and screams from time to time). no interest in playing (with toys or with us) or foraging whatsoever. the cage is in the dining room and there is always someone in so the bird is not alone. he/she doesn't seem sick, but i'm beginning to worry. do you have some advice? tnx

Just don’t buy the animal if you can’t properly care for it. Wait until you have your own house and your own money, so you can provide all that they need to thrive, such as out of the cage time. It is selfish to buy birds just because you want to own them, without being able to provide everything they need.
