Thank You Teresa. I use to avoid the Y seams but sometime you just have to do it. Your tip to mark the three sides is a terrific idea. I use to just mark the dot but it makes much more sense to mark all around. Thank you again.

thanks...QUESTION....i have 2.5 " squares of plaid fabric, blue tones, red tones, yellow, cream/brown, greens, this is fabric i've been collecting for years....34 different plaids. would you make a 9 patch 1" mocha sold sashiig, or put the sashing around each square. after seeing your quilt with the sashing around each 5" square now i'm not sure....my original idea was a nine patch.

It depends on the look you want to achieve. If you’ve been thinking about a particular design for a long time I’d stick to it
