Couldn't disagree more on your opinion of Blanchett. Fake, dishonest and hypocritical! There is nothing natural left on her. Also she nowadays is horrid and repulsive. Just a mask face. She is so much botoxed and operated. She looks not good anymore. She was my favorite actress and I admired her, but now I have no clue why she completely transformed into the artificial celebrity like everybody else.

I don't want to be unkind, but I'll just observe that Blanchett is a skilled actor, also intelligent and a highly calculating self-promoter. If she wasn't these things, she wouldn't be where she is in her career. So, as with most behavior by actors... take it all with a large grain of salt.

Perhaps but it doesn't come across as irritating as Nicole Kidman who tries hard at false modesty. At least Blanchett can articulate real answers to questions instead of Kidman's self-aggrandising 'bravery' for choosing a role.

I don't know why you said that in this video, do you mean to say she pretends to be gay or something? Besides, that's just a cynical viewpoint with no real substance behind it. Just because she is eloquent, charming and intelligent, she must be a calculating promoter? Can't she be a highly confident and highly skilled woman who doesn't need all that 'calculation?

Agree, and add to it the 'mentally unstable woman' stereotype as well as a bonus. Then look up Marin Alsop's biography and gasp - no wonder she hates this movie... so do I tbh. No idea what was the point of making it, and no wonder it flopped so badly.

Thank you! Not to mention that 95%+ of the "me, too" accusations (probably higher) are not women on women. But its sensational to have it be a lesbian. And, with Cate in the role, it good box office. That's what its about. I totally get Marin Alsop frustration with the film. And, BTW, Carol was not the first lesbian film. Read Highsmith's books its 1000% better than the film. Things are a bit better today, but try being a gay teen in small town USA and you might not feel the same way ...

Must say I was revolted by this movie. I am an orchestral musician living in Berlin. This is all just so wrong on many levels including the pat, and hollow put down of "cancel culture", the power hungry predator lesbian who is emotionally and mentally unstable, the abominable attempt to look like a conductor conducting, the nonsense about choosing a soloist to perform Elgar(it is never done remotely anything like that), the endless nonsense coming out of the conductors mouth, the ridiculous and unrealistic way the musicians are treated. I wish I hadn't seen this movie and the sold out theatre last night seemed to be very happy when it finally ended.

Is she really heteronormative? Her fashion style is quite androgynous, she always makes flirty jokes with her female colleagues and she doesn't mind playing lesbian roles. Also recently she made a donation for female, trans and nonbinary directors to finish their projects this year or something like that. She is not active in the community because, well, she's an old lady, but she has shown her support multiple times. More than enough to be a lesbian icon. What a stupid comment. Did she write the screenplay? Is she a director of the movie?

@@Sssvvvgggwww is it stupid? Are you stupid, with the insults? She didn't have to take the role. It feeds into the idea that all lesbians are predatory, so not stupid. Get some manners.

Actually it is not about a lesbian predator, but about a person in a position of great power who abuses this. And originally the director wrote the script for a male role, but felt that the perspective needed to be broadened. I don't think that this film discredits lesbians, unlike the film 'notes on a scandal' where Judy Dench played the lesbian predator (and Blancher the victim!) - THAT definitely served the old chliche

Is the flashback categorization of "straight" and "gay" a hot pan still in 2023 for Hollywood to be worthy of Oscar award. Where are we...!?

Interesting that the actress who said that because she's an actress she should be allowed to play a queer character and thus doesn't seem to understand the actual problem of equality for queers actors is a lesbian icon. Hmmm interesting.

I've read from different sources that she is not that 'thrilled' to be a gay icon, especially the lesbians.. heard that she's lil' homophobic but takes roles because she knows she's getting awards
