Lol 1 great movie in a decade won't make Disney worry, bud. Just looking at the highest grossing movies ever, of the top 10, 1 is Universal and the other 9 are owned by Disney. Animation wise, Minions, while not Dreamworks, is Universal's only top animated movie, and it doesn't even scratch the top 20. Disney has 5 higher. Dreamworks doesn't even have a top 50. Disney has dozens. They'll never get worried. There's a reason Disney parks pull in almost 4 times the amount that Universal does. XD

@@CrackingCody Try again. The number 1 movie production studio is Universal. (Look it up.) Universal parks (Florida) beat three of the four Disney parks in attendance last year. Only Magic Kingdom drew more people, and I probably don't have to tell you why that was. Universal is now a MAJOR player in the theme park game. And, when Epic Universe opens, Universal has a very real shot of moving to the starting lineup, while WDW is relegated to bench-warming.

Nintendo is the true nail in the coffin for Disney if Universal does it right, which from the looks of it they have been. Disney is losing this battle. Disney is going to continue losing this battle. Ultimately, Disney will lose the war completely. Adding lands and/or attractions is not going to save them. When they saw the success of the Harry Potter stuff they should have dug deep in their pockets and went BIG. But they got cocky, “we’re too big, they can’t beat us,” their mishandling of the pandemic, and their first big swing in the fight was Avatar land. With two rides. Then Star Wars land. With two rides. And ToyStory land. With two rides. On top of that add the LUDICROUS price increases, starting to charge-exorbitantly-for things that had previously been free was the final straw. I’m not saying Epic Universe will kill Disney, by any means, but it will take them YEARS to recover, let alone come out on top again.

Avatar land was at least great aside from only 2 (well-crafted) rides.
@MattMcIrvin
@MattMcIrvin Жыл бұрын
To be fair, the "2 rides" pattern was pretty much copying what Universal was doing. Hogsmeade in Orlando originally had one major new ride and two rethemes of existing ones. Diagon Alley: one ride. The idea was that most of the attraction would be the immersive environment with shops and restaurants, and with the Harry Potter franchise that worked extraordinarily well because the fiction they were building on actually described a lot of shops that people would automatically want to visit. Disney figured that was the formula now--an elaborate immersive land built around one or two rides, at least one of which would be an impressive E-ticket. But their source material didn't lend itself quite as well to the formula (Star Wars maybe a bit better than Toy Story or Avatar, since there's a fair bit of famous fictional commerce in-world).

Great video! Another thing about the regional parks is if Universal adds DreamWorks IP attractions in those parks, then this new wave of children would be growing up and become more familiar with the likes of Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, How to Train Your Dragon, Minions etc. Those would be considered nostalgia and viewed how most of us view Disney's IP today. This was definitely a great long term play on Universals part.

Disney much like many corporations who are market leaders are very reactive and not proactive when responding to market pressure from competitors. Just took my family on an Orlando parks trip - 4 days at Universal was about the same cost as one day in Hollywood Studios. The overall guest experience in Universal was better than HS with more attentive and engaged staff, better food and the rides/lands felt more modern. I did catch what the nostalgia strategy was a while back, and it’s genius because Disney seems to disregard the overwhelming importance of this to its parks. They seem to be only focusing on short-term gains and not the long haul, because they are obsessively beholden to their investors. However, the Texas park is brilliant, because most middle class families are now priced out of a Disney vacation unless they go into debt, and so as parents-even ones who have genuine nostalgia for the Disney parks-are going to find a park that’s nearby, less expensive for a vacation if they are traveling, high quality, and less stressful to go to with small children, overwhelmingly tempting. Thus all of their children’s happy memories will be Universal-based, and when they grow out of the Texas park it will be an easy transition to the destination parks, and the perfect age for the Harry Potter attractions.

This is what we used to do: Take the Magical Express to a Disney hotel Go to DisneyWorld via bus provided, buy anything we wanted and had it delivered to our hotel Bring our own food and save a lot of cash for restaurants we really wanted to go to (the dining plan never fit our needs) Travel to park and park, hopping around two or three a day Go home magical express Now they stripped the hotels to bare bones, Magical Express is gone, the buses are a NIGHTMARE to navigate and they slashed their trips to nothing, fast pass is gone, and the park hopper is really a Russian roulette with whether you will be able to go to two parks, and restaurants are a coin toss now. Universal actually has me excited when Disney is just seeing the sights because I don’t have to worry about any of my concerns except the bus. And since I am staying off-site (significantly cheaper), I won’t have to shell out a lot for going back to the airport. Because it's so nostalgic to the point to where those families don't feel the need to see it twice. Disney has the reputation of hardly closing rides, and families aren't gonna see a reason to go back once they've "seen it all." They aren't gonna spend the money on a park that's been relatively the same for reasons other than nostalgia

Honestly i had no idea a kid friendly theme park could work this way but it does make sense. Nostalgia is a very powerful tool. The first thing that comes to mind is re-creating the back to the future ride for its timelessness and nostalgia. Probably one of the few timeless ip out there. Bring in the old fans and introduce new fans to the franchise.

I think a major milestone that's possibly in reach for Universal is Comcast potentially buying out Warner Bros, which is potentially possible from rumors about potential buyouts happening next year. Getting access to Warner Bros IP skyrockets Universal Parks a mile. Lord of the Rings allows for a middle earth resort to potentially replace Lost Continent, Looney Tunes and Hanna Barbera to be in Toon Lagoon, Licensing payments for Harry Potter to be dissolved within Universal, but the crown jewel would be ownership of DC Comics as well as having East Coast rights to Marvel superheroes. This would basically give Universal massive negotiating power in any negotiation with Marvel Land because Universal wouldn't NEED Marvel Superhero Island but can choose to withhold Marvel characters from the Disney Parks in Orlando in addition to having Batman/Superman based attractions which they would have access to now. This is on top of the varieties of unused Universal/Nintendo IPs on the table here such as Pokemon, Zelda, Jaws, etc which wouldn't even necessitate a buyout. Given that Toon Lagoon and Lost Continent can be renovated, Simpsons lands will need to be replaced, and there's 2 epic universe expansion pods, Universal has a lot of room to continue to expand and renovate their parks, especially in the United States. I've also heard rumors that Marineland Ontario is for sale, which honestly I think one of the big players like SeaWorld, Busch Gardens, or Universal should buy out for a ton of land at a popular location by Niagara Falls for a relatively cheap price and create a Canadian theme park instead that's accessible to the Northern area of the United States. I don't think this would cannibalize the Orlando Parks or the new Texas park in the case of the Universal quesiton too much.

Marvel is Universal's for as long as they want. They got a sweet deal when Marvel was nearly bankrupt, so the got it for a ridiculously low annual cost and rights forever. DC has a contract with Six Flags which still has years left on it, so that doesn't really change the gage much

The location being texas is also genius. Even living in alabama, right next to florida, a drive to Orlando is 8 hours long. For a family in say, Austin, that goes up to 16 HOURS LONG. God forbid gas prices are high, or your 3 year old gets crabby halfway through the drive. Also 2 whole days added to vacation just for going there and leaving. Austin to Anaheim is even worse at 20 hours. No matter how much your little girl loves Elsa, you don't want that. But hey! Your little girl also likes Poppy the Troll girl and there's a neat theme park with other cartoon characters that's only an hour or so away! Plus, Texas is one of the top growing states in the country. It only makes sense to get a foothold in the region.

Its a smart move. A LOT of cali families moved to TX and AZ specifically so they could raise their kids in an area not over run with drug use and that doesnt cost a crippling amount of money to afford a home. So TX has a lot more young families now as a result. Universal is tapping into that brand new demographic and they know the spending patterns of these families will be simmilar to families in CA as many of them ARE from there. Plus TX is one of the friendlier states to do buissness in in terms of taxes which is why so many companies are moving away from CA and NY. If they are smart, Universal can expand or change the park to suit the needs to growing kids/adults too so they can maintain or expand their customer base.

I don't know any families that still go and we Live about 30mins away from Walt Disney World. I do have friends that work there and a lot of friends that quit working there, they all stay the same thing it's not the friendliest place to go anymore and the parks aren't kept clean like they used to be. They want to squeeze every dollar out of visitors while giving them less for more money. I'll say in the next five years Disney will be at the point where they are going to go under thanks to the people running it. They have forced out the average family for Richer people. Do you really think rich people will beable to keep them open? Look at their new hotel for star wars, it failed hard because of not only the price but limited rooms 6000 to 8000 for two days? LOL

Speaking of Nostalgia, funny enough, I grew up with many Universal Animated films such as The land before time and An American Tail and Fievel goes West also with Hanna Barbera cartoons (thanks to early 90s Cartoon Network) and those were the characters that were at the Universal parks at the time, and I remember all The Flintstones movie experiences at early 90s. I also remember going to Universal Studios Hollywood far more than going to Disneyland because, when we were teens, my friends and I preferred Universal Studious far more than Disney since we felt Disney was too "kiddy" and too expensive (even back then in the 00s). The key will also be as Universal grows can it keep the parks as low stress as they are now? Right now for the price Universal charges, the fun you have, the lack of stress, and the ability to go in without a plan and have fun is one of the best things about Universal compared to Disney now. Can Universal maintain that because it's the one thing Disney no longer has. Disney can still be a lot of fun but requires a lot more planning and strategy whereas Universal you can just go in with no plan and do almost everything.

Flubbing on the Harry Potter IP (MULTIPLE times, might I add) was such a *massive* blow to Disney's dominance in the theme park industry; Universal winning that bid, and absolutely hitting a home run with its implementation, was what got the ball rolling on the park becoming the ever-increasingly serious contender for Disney that it is today.

You really put into words exactly what I've been saying about the new Universal Family park and why it is so brilliant in becoming the new nostalgia for future generations. Especially as Disney seems to be more and more moving away from families, with the combination of pricing them out (it is way to easy for a family of four to drop $5-10k on a WDW vacation before even setting foot in a theme park where food, merchandise, Genie+, etc just add to the costs), focusing more and more on the "childless millennial" (who, yes, will spend loads of money so they can put up pictures on Instagram of them wearing every Mickey Ear they put out, but aren't passing this love onto future generations they aren't making and "internet culture" tends to be quite fickle) and, regardless of where you stand on the issues, losing a lot of their family base with their increasing foray into politics and social issues. The time is perfect for Universal to capture families now & in the future. Epic Universe is going to really send a wake up call when it opens in a couple years, but what they are also laying the foundations for will reap even more benefits in the long run.

Walt Disney World needs to do something kind of extreme. The parks around the world all have some unique attractions. One of the top complaints and certainly my top one, having grown up in Tampa in the 70's, is that the MK is too darned crowded. You end up riding few rides after spending all that $$. So they need to open a second MK. Right there. Connect it with the Monorail system and make each of the two kingdoms subtly different. Each would have many of the most popular E tickets, food and such, but both would gradually develop into distinct East and Western styled parks (whatever that means. Call them Alpha and Beta, V1 & 2.0, old and new) And ultimately Florida would end up with every iteration of all the greats (I really want to see Shanghai Pirates, but can't see a trip to China in my future. Maybe the second park could have a dual track version of Peter Pan for better ride rates. Or they could make a Star Wars park complete with a giant Death Star as the center hub attraction... We're talking many billions.

Universal is going to gain much more market share than you believe. The park was standing room only when spring break started with all 15 car entrances at a stand still. A swinging monkey does not let go of a vine until it graps a hold of another. When Epic Universe opens with it's 1000 affordable housing units for it's workers and no reservation system, the crowds will continue to massively increase at Universal. Disney loyalty will continue to erode because Universal is turning a profit in their movie division by making lower budget films like cocaine bear , violent night , megan and ticket to paradise. Power is a funny thing. You don't realize how little of it you have until it's too late. The Brightline train is now heading to Universal not Disney... Universal bid on Fox to force Disney to raise it's bid and increase it's debt. There are many other factors that point to a sudden knock out of the champ.

Man I love Disney to death, but hope that Universal becomes dominant. I think it all comes back to the movies. Disney has just made far better movies over decades that have DEEP emotional ties. THOUGH I totally believe this is changing. It's been such a long time that I've been excited for a disney movie, or have walked away with my mind blown. Universal? The exact opposite. If they can continue to make movies at this recent quality, then I think it's inevitable that they'll win. I think we forget that Walt really invented the "Theme park". Before, they were just amusement parks. If you have a theme that people wholeheartedly love, then wrap that into an amusement park, then you have life long supporters. Harry Potter was exactly this! I hope they continue to make banger movies, and then let us visit that world in a park!

Aside from Epic Universe coming, Universal Studios Florida is going to need help in the near term with not just Kid Zone being replaced and the new Minion attraction but also with whatever is going to happen with Springfield USA. Then beyond those immediate concerns, it still is full of simulator rides even if the Simpsons ride replacement is not a screen attraction. As a former Disney lover... with the changes Universal has made in the past 5ish years I've made the switch. Disney has been losing people who are thinking about planning their vacation with the recent changes such as how damn complicated it is to plan your trip. You have to have everything booked 6 months out down to what rides you're going to go on in what order. Who wants to spend their -vacation- on their phone hoping and praying that they can get a lightning lane for an attraction, refreshing every few seconds and then having to be at their next one and setting alarms all day? Not to mention booking what park you need to go in what day! If its pourin down rain why would you want to go to Animal Kingdom where all the animals are seeking shelter? That would be a perfect Epcot day but if you already booked 6 months ago for AK, youre stuck going there! Its stupid and honestly I know its lost me as well as 2 other families who I was doing the planning of their vacation for. Didnt take much but a breakdown of Genie Plus and the reservation system for them to say no thanks and hop on the universal train where you can do whatever you want when you want and if you buy express pass or stay at a deluxe resort you can do it all with a low wait time.

Hey Attraction Ideas! I know this doesn’t have to really do with the topic to this video but I had the biggest epiphany ever! If you ever be to HHN Orlando, you know that in the Springfield area of the park they just have guys walking around with chainsaws. But if Universal really wanted to keep up with the theme of The Simpsons they can do a treehouse of horror scarezone. They can overlay the Simpsons ride with a treehouse of horror theme and get the characters different costumes. Homer: King Homer (King Kong Homer) or psycho Homer from Treehouse of Horror V Marge: Witch Marge Bart: Hugo Simpson or Fly Bart Lisa: Demon Lisa Krusty: Vampire Krusty And instead of having Sideshow Bob have three be characters which are. Maggie: (Marge will be holding her) Alien Maggie And KANG AND KRODOS! It would be cool if they did a house with the Treehouse of Horror theme but realistically, I don’t know if they can.

Disney was great and holds a special memories. I started going to Universal when I was in highschool when Islands of adventure came out. Loved those parks and Halloween horror nights as young adult but my kids still a little young to justify going there. I still will take my kids to Disney. HOWEVER, my kids are in the driver seat of where I'm gonna take them. They are much more into Mario, Zelda, Minecraft than much of anything woke Disney has done recently. With Mario movie about to break records and Epic universe coming out with Mario land and I compare it to changing classic perfect rides like splash mountain. Even Sea World is beginning to pass Disney anymore. They are adding a new coaster every year for the next 5 years. Disney has fallen into the Six Flags habit of cloning rides. Sure, Universal is doing that with Potter and Nintendo World but those IP’s are in HUGE demand right now. Universal also has kept their park additions within the theme of their parks, unlike the clusterf*ck that DHS, DAK (and slowly Epcot) has become. So I don’t believe there’s even a “war” going on anymore when it’s clear that these park companies are going in their own directions away from each other. It’s difficult to compare them to each other anymore. I also think you are wrong about Universal. If you asked “Joe schmoe” what they think of when they hear the words Universal Studios, they will say theme parks. Universal has made a HUGE name for themselves in only 35 years as compared to Disney’s 68 years in the theme park business.

There’s no Disneyland in Australia, you could say movie world is our universal studios (I don’t live in the eastern states so I don’t know much about it) so there’s already some brand loyalty/nostalgia to universal in Australia, but Disney has been going signing deals for new parks then pulling out about a week after national / state news announces it and this happens every 2 to 5 years and it’s getting annoying by bringing up everyone’s hopes only to just stop talking about it immediately. I’ve heard rumours from the eastern states of QLD and NSW to Adelaide. I even have memories of Disney wanting to come to my home, Perth, pulling out and I even remember the then the mayor writing a letter to them asking for it which I cannot find reports about but I remember it clear as day, personally I have no hope in Disney coming to Australia outside of Pixar Putt

i think the partnership between Nintendo and Universal is gonna catch Disney's attention bc it's guaranteed to be a success. there's a whole group of older teens and young adults who outgrew Disney (or didn't even like them) but always play video games. Mario is the most popular and profitable video game character of all time. on the animation front, Disney has also been slacking and their ratings are showing it.

This makes me very excited from a guest perspective: if both parks "battle" to improve themselves it's a huge win for us since we can enjoy both!!

Exactly what I was thinking! No matter what happens, it's a win-win situation for us consumers. Better quality, amazing rides and more options, which is great. Perhaps prices will also be cheaper as well (looking at you, Disney)

The damage the previous CEO did to that company, wow. I'd add a few points; 1) Disney's hold on international tourists is insane. Plus, Disney's parks internationally have secured a similar reputation. 2)Disney's IP, unlike its parks, are not stagnant. Disney now owns 9 out of the top 10 and 15 out of the top 20 highest grossing films of all time. It also owns 8 of the top 10 highest grossing animations. These are big beloved franchises; so the creative potential for Disney's parks is huge.

I'm international and everyone I know who travels to the US always does both Disney and Universal. Though I have to say I'd be more excited for Universal now due to all the new attractions. It's funny from being age 3 my most nostalgic memory was actually of the ET ride at Universal and not of anything at Disney. Though I had even more fun at Disney more recently than I was when I was 3.

@@fiora5643 yup. All my rich friends went to Disney World in Florida. It's insane. Universal is still something you have to ask about, but Disney World is a must for tourists. right now it attract 70 million tourists a year. it's insane. that's larger than even religious pilgrimages.

I just went to Disneyland, Disney California and Universal Studios with my family for Spring Break. We all had more fun at Universal Studios and California Park. Disneyland was super crowded and long wait lines. Disney tixs are super expensive too. Next time we'll just got to Universal only.

Disney didn't have the capital to invest in the Theme parks. They spent way to much money on the Fox acquisition and starting up Disney plus, this put them tremendously in a hole and COVID hit at exactly the wrong time for them.

Disney is too busy running its Marvel & Star Wars franchises into the ground with one boring, woke, inoffensive, tame, disastrously sucky show & movie after another. It's no wonder Disney+ is failing when this conveyor belt of garbage is what they're pumping out.

I enjoyed the video, however where was the mention of Galaxy’s Edge at both parks? These locations drive much more traffic to the parks compared to Pandora. However the SW hotel is quite the different story 😂

@Fred Leggett The last time we went I didn't get to focus on food as much, but yes it is. My friend got 2 whole loaves of cinnamon bread for really cheap, and I regretted not getting any. Merch at the parks is also really cheap, but high quality as well. They had a whole store with beautiful wood carvings, one with metalwork, and some other really cool stuff. It's definitely worth the trip imo

@@deadmeme2615 Sigh. Yeah, I gotta get off my ass soon and get to it before I'm wheelchair-bound (which is coming sooner rather than later). The same with Cedar Point. It would be nice for once to not be food raped by a theme park. And I hear Dolly Parton herself even makes the occasional visit and mingles with the crowd.

I went to disneyworld in 2019, 2021, and 2022. It got progressively more expensive and less "magical"(scheduling challenges, genie plus, overall ease, and value of experience) with each visit. I've been to WDW a dozen times. We are going to Universal in 2025. We are done with paying a premium for the disney product. It's just not worth it anymore.
