Atul Pethe is a highly acclaimed and celebrated personality in Marathi theatre, and over the last 35 years, he has worked very closely with experimental theatre. He has conducted many experiments in theatre through his writing, direction, and acting.
While he has acted in well-known plays like Ghashiram Kotwal, Pralay, Atireki, Saptnekarache Mool, and Padgham, he has also written plays such as Chess, Yatra, and Kshitij. He is also well-versed in direction and has directed Shityuddha Sadanand, Waiting for Godot, Soorya Pahilela Manoos, Dalpatsing Yeti Gava, Satyashodhak, Chowk, Golayug, and Ashadhatil Ek Diwas. All these plays are socio-politically relevant and are astute responses to the changing times. Atul Pethe has even devised a new form of theatre Ringan Natya, as a protest, after Dr. Narendra Dabholkar's brutal assassination.
