To reduce the loudness when closed, there's a simple solution: Just pull the sensor out of the lower cymbal (it does not damage it, you can simply put it back on) and use it without the lower cymbal. It feels even better in my opinion.

They should rename the ATV company to “Everything’s $500”. Damn. I want the ride too.

Dam I wish that everything was 500 for 1000 you could have 2, modules 3 crashes, 4 toms , double bass, and a side snare with what is some of the best pads and cymbals on the market and I just realised you could use the top of the 2nd hi hat as a China!

In the US they might as well rename ATV to Unobtanium Inc. Very shortly you will have to go overseas to buy them, ATV not distributing them in US anymore after last orders went to dealers in March/Apr.

@@chezchezchezchez In a word, "tariffs". Prolly too lengthy to get into here, there are discussions on vdrums forums etc. But they made announcements around NAMM time. Bottom line is the gear is mfgd in China and the import tariffs were higher than ATV USA wanted to pay so they let the next shipments sit offshore or in customs hoping the tariffs would drop back down before they imported. US ATV dealers with customers who had ordered didnt know what to tell their customers and some like Sweetwater got tired of telling customers "I dont know" and bailed. Then Corona struck but the handwriting was already on the wall, remember NAMM was in January I think.

A point worth noting, not to be argumentative, when you say "no one ever does that" at 5:25 about choking a hi hat, jazz players use that technique a lot. As a drummer trained in the jazz genre, I appreciate that about these hi hats. By the way, great playing at 6:18.

Thanks for this, Justin. I really do appreciate you being always honest and not biased even when you companies send you stuff for free. That’s a real value of your channel. Would be great if you might tell how this reacts in combination with VST.

For those with the ultimate in e-drum hardware as their goal then this hi-hat is a slightly noisy leader. I would’ve liked to see you demonstrate those three zones as the playing on the edge and mid cymbal certainly show this item to be an extremely expressive piece of kit in the right hands. Glad ATV chose you to put their wares under scrutiny, solid feedback for us all to digest, much appreciated.
@downbeat67
@downbeat67 6 жыл бұрын
I had these for about six months. To reduce the noise I had to put some foam rubber tape around the edge of the bottom cymbal. In comparison to the VH-13 hats the ATV’s top cymbal is about a 1/2 pound heavier and much louder without adding some sort of noise damping to the bottom cymbal. My biggest issue was the edge switch on the hats. It requires you to hit the edge at a shallower angle than the VH-13. So for you players that like to set your hi-hats high you will need to modify your play technique a bit. You can hear evidence of this at the 6:00 mark when Justin is playing the edge closed at steep angle. You can clearly hear the top sound being triggered, not the edge.

This review was spot on. I've had this on my main drum set for about 6 months and it's really something. The loudness thing is my only complaint but I also haven't seen any dents yet so if that happens I'll have two things to complain about. I also think it's overpriced like all of their other drums, but it's a WAYYY better deal than the VH-13 for almost half the cost of that insanely overpriced monster. I also own a the VH-11 and the VH-12 and they're all pretty much the same in terms of accuracy and realism but they all need to be tuned well and have a decent hi hat stand in case further adjustments are needed. So basically, I don't think there's any notable playing or functionality advantage (beyond the 360 triggering) of this thing versus a VH-11 or VH-12. The VH-13 I can't really speak of much. You seemed to get all the important information in here and I'm really glad you pointed out how the top part is just one of their 14" cymbals and that it can be choked all around - I never even thought about chocking a hi hat or even if any module could do that but apparently the TD-30 can.
@65Drums
@65Drums 6 жыл бұрын
Hey thanks for your thoughts on these. I love them too. The fact that they trigger 360, are a full 14", and are $250 less than the VH13 make me recomend them for any upgrade.

Charlie's Drum Shed I don't understand your comment. Peter said that those hats are overpriced and my point was that quality acoustic cymbals are in the same price range, but with e-cymbals you can get whatever sound you want, and A customs (which are awesome) will always be bright, and if you want darker sound, you will have to switch to different cymbals

Great review, as always! I've had my ATV hats for several months and absolutely love them. The 360 playing surface is awesome., as is their response and feel. Great product for sure. You can use felt under the top hat if you want noise dampening. Hasn't bothered me, however.

This video is a big help for me, thanks! I’m seeing an ATV EXS-5 kit in my future. I use my e-drums to trigger Superior Drummer, so onboard sounds don’t matter as much to me. That being said, when playing live I try to stick with 1 kit. The ATV sounds are super dry sounding, but I think they’re pretty natural sounding.
@DrumminDrew0
@DrumminDrew0 4 жыл бұрын
It seems like the sound options are limited to tight closed and all the way open. I didn't really hear any variations of loosely closed sounds that would be used a lot in rock playing. Unless I'm doing some fancy HH work, I almost never have it closed tight and I never play it wide open. Would this be a factor of the hardware or the module?

Great review. I came across this and remembered I had bought one of these when I still had my TD50. I wasnt happy at all when trying to use it with the 50 so I turned it into an overpriced splash and thats the way it stayed until today...lol. I saw this and was like sheeit, I got the mimic now. I wonder how it would work with it. Bro, I had been so fustrated with my old VH-12's as it had a dead spot in the movement just coming into wide open that was making me insane. I hooked up the ATV hats and they work GREAT with the mimic. I will never go back to a ROland hi hat. Unless they figure out a way to make the digitals work with the mimic anyways....lol.

Hey 65 drums. I'm an intermediate drum player and only 14. I currently have a crappy e-drum set from some unknown company which has been completely worn out. My 9 year old sister is starting to get into drumming as-well and i would really like to buy a brand new drum set for the both of us. As I am only 14, the money would mostly come out of my parents bank account. Do you think I should go for something like a Roland TD1KV even though I know I'd be happier with a better overall drum kit, or something like a Roland TD17KV (Which I've had my eye on for a while) I would love to know your opinion. And If anyone else has the answers please feel free to reply on my comment. Thanks!

I can't say anything about the ATV but i play a TD-50K. I have been drumming for 20 years and i have not had any complaints about the hi hat on this set. It's actually much more accurate and spot on than i expected. I can't compare for you, but i can tell you that the TD-50K is the best electronic set I've ever played on and i was so happy with the purchase.

Im still making it through all of your videos, so forgive me if you covered this: What hihat stand would you recommend for a edrummer moving from a mounted hihat? the gearhead in me wants a nice $200-$300 stand but the realist in me is questioning if that's even necessary for say a VH-10 hihat. all im sure of is i definitely want a two-leg but should i worry about more featureful stands or should i just get something that opens and closes with no frills? Thanks!

what I noticed about the atv hihat. the edge sound is not well resolved. fast triplet single beats at the edge are played either as tip sound or as edge sound. there are also dead zones at the edge. I only noticed this when playing softly, although I already have sensitivity to 32. i have tested some atv cymbals. they all have the same problem. atv still has to make improvements in the next generation of these cymbals.

For a TD-17 drumset your 14" hi hat will seem out of place because it will be even bigger than your ride cymbal (if you are using the TD-17KVX). As he stated maybe this isn't the thing for a TD-17 user. A VH-10 would do you as good as anything. It may even trigger better.

Yes, the light should be on. Check your adapter is plugged in properly. I just got the ATV hi hats yesterday and set them up with the Mimic pro. They were acoustically too loud so I took the bottom piece off (see v-drums forum for details). It plays as quiet now as VH-11s and is more accurate. I found you really have to res with the adjustment nut on the hi hat itself to get accurate response.

Hey man, could you (or anyone) help me out? I have an aDrums kit with a TD-17 module. I've gotten everything dialed in but I can NOT get the hi hat action. I'm not able to get all the nuanced foot performance, like the little claps and splashes. I've got it calibrated from the TD-17 and I'm just lost as to how to get it. Maybe it's just a downfall of using a Roland module with ATV hi hats. Has anyone had this problem? Should I have the pad assigned to a specific type? I just see all these videos with the natural sound of the hi hat with foot work and I'm unsure how they do it! Any help would be greatly appreciated. Besides that small hiccup, I love the ATV cymbals. All of them. They have great response, no dead spots, and they feel solid (aside from the bottom hi hat). Definitely recommend for anyone used to traditional kits who is looking to make the switch (or addition) to electronic drums. ATV is the absolute way to go.

I just saw that the new Roland Digital VH14D had just been released. However, although it is compatible with the TD27 module it apparently will only act as a regular analog pad and is really meant for the new TD50x for the sensors to work . Hey...i have a quick question. Unrelated to this video but i thought i would have a better chance at getting a reply. So I'm interested in starting a channel to post drum covers. I use a Roland TD50K. So i watched your video about the Irig and had a quick question. I use an ipod connected to the mix in plug on the drum module. So if i use the Irig setup, will it record the audio from the song that I'm playing over as well? That way i can just adjust the volumes of the song I'm playing to and the drums on the module and record everything at one time. The reason i ask is because I'm not sure how to go about recording a cover and then going back in to place the song I'm covering over the audio of the drums. Ho0e i didn't make this question to complicated but i would really appreciate if you could answer this one for me.
@johndef5075

Its really easy. You need a source for music and your phone to record. I use an old phone with my wifi to play to drumless tracks on youtube. You plug your music source into the mix in on your drum module. Then a guitar or drum cable from your mono output on drum module into iRig. The iRig then plugs into your headphone jack on phone. The headphone jack then turns into an input becoming a microphone. So your music and drumming are recorded in perfect sync when you record video and play your music source. Sound is pretty good considering how inexpensive it is. I got mine on ebay for 3 dollars. Ive posted a few vids I made with the iRig on youtube. Check them out if you have absolutely nothing better to do😂

He reviewed this after 2 months of use, he stated that he has never ever even seen a 2Box module in person. He can't review something he hasn't even seen!

Very worth it when you can get it used for under $300. The new price? Maybe not

No way they should be selling over $500 or $700. Supply and demand and greed at its best. Best to wait for more competition to develop increasing supply and substitutes. econ 101. I'll eat my hat before I'll spend that. Sounds like I got a new song to sing.

Then you should get the bottom hat off and no more noise. I tried felts, but still noisy. The one piece HH is definitely quieter then any VH-x and accurate as perfect than 2 pieces HH.

Way nicer that Alesis junk not worth the money because of its lack of dynamics.

Wow. The e-drum market is so overpriced. So, a 500$ cymbal shaped proximity sensor, eh? Okay.

Only electronic drum nerds would watch video after video of an electronic drum nerd talk about electronic drums then comment about electronic drums... NERDS! haha

Have you guys ever heard of self depreciation?
@TheBonsaiRonin
@TheBonsaiRonin 6 жыл бұрын
It's called self depreciation. I'm am calling myself a nerd. I watch every 65 drum video as soon as they drop. I comment on many of them. I am a fan of Justin and impressed by what he does. All of you are fellow nerds. I apologize you didn't get my tone. I have been accused of having dry humor. Maybe next time I will make my comments more clear. If u are offended ask for clarification so maybe in the future we both don't get our intensions mucked up.

@@TheBonsaiRonin sorry it's just usually when people are self-deprecating they something like "that's why I'm one of you" or something like that (especially on comments)
