Loved the footy programs in these times,...and Hugh John's commentaries were brilliant, he had the perfect voice in describing the action on the pitch....great memories, of wonderful times.....miss them

Would love to see Second Chance get a DVD release. That brief glimpse in the trail seems to be all that's online.

Former Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett wrote the theme tune, and also performed it alongside his brother John on flute. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXSVY2uaZdqriLs

Aston Villa's 19-year-old striker Gary Shaw with the goal in that clip, bringing the score to 2-1 against Nottingham Forest at City Ground. The game ended with a 2-2 draw. Shaw would help Villa win the European Cup in 1982, he was the only Birmingham-born player in the team in the final (including the substitutes).

Indeed, all true.....that match was played the day after Villa's 1-0 Boxing Day win at home to Stoke City....yep. ....2 matches in 2 days!

Looking at the Star Soccer credits, you've got Sid Kilbey and Trevor East from Tiswas and Nick Owen and Jimmy Greaves who would end up on TV-am.

And Jimmy Greaves continued on Saint and Greavsie, while Nick Owen hosted Midweek Sports Special during the late 80s.

Greavsie was a new recruit to the Star Soccer team that season, providing some post-match analysis for Gary Newbon, something he would continue to do alongside Jim Rosenthal when recruited by LWT to become part of The Big Match Live team.

Brian Moore credited for commentary on the West Ham United v Leyton Orient match, coverage by London Weekend Television and "The Big Match". Hammers won 2-1. Meanwhile Gerry Harrison was the commentator for Norwich City v Tottenham Hotspur, which ended in a 2-2 draw, by way of Anglia Television and "Match of the Week".

That last advert, the one for Peerless, was voiced by Phil Brice of Beacon Radio 303.

Ironic that Susannah York played a divorcee with two children in Second Chance, as that's what she was in real life.

I always thought 'The Gaffer' was as enjoyable as 'Oh no it's Selwyn Froggitt' which is why I got them both on DVD.

I can’t remember if Central maintained Star Soccer of whether they axed it.

Went with my mate who was a West Ham fan to an away game at Forest for the craic back in these days. Don’t think l’ve ever froze my bollocks of so much in that poxy uncovered away end , and it was 0-0. Told him we should of gone to watch Charlton at home instead lol
