2023 Can-Am Outlander 700 and 500 First Test Review Plus 700 X MR and Outlander Pro. Can-Am is replacing their excellent but aging Outlander 450 and 570 models, released in 2015, with a their brand new sport/utility Outlander 700 and 500, available in both single seat and two-seat Max models. Accompanying them is the Outlander 700 X MR purpose built mud machine, along with the more utility and hunting focused Outlander Pro HD5 and HD7.
For the first press ride of the new Outlanders, Can-Am flew us out to the BMF ranch in Edgewood New Mexico, owned by Can-Am SXS Racer and one of the winningest fighters in UFC history Donald Cowboy Cerrone.
From the $5,999 2wd 500 through the $9,799 Outlander XT 700, the $10,199 X MR 700 and the Pro HD lineup, based on our first experience, Can-Am has delivered astounding value for the money with the new mid-bore Outlander lineup.
Bottom line, Can-Am is delivering newly designed, brand new, 2023 Outlanders at prices that reflect the competition from a few years ago when things were more affordable. And that is a win.

I agree! I think it is a major win… durability…. Belt/clutch setup irs brake materials functionality….. foot brake and hand lever deep storage system More ground clearance Design…. Led lights Side covers for heat to skin Price starting around $7k is a really good value! Although most people will be adding locking diff and power steering… if they could offer the 500 xt with both for around $8k I would be impressed! Overall I am very excited for this new design! And even more happy to see all the innovation and full redesign that gives the consumer what they’ve been wanting at an affordable price! I might have to get one of these!

In my opinion not offering the visco 4-lok in the XT version was a mistake. Currently you can only get it in the XMR mud edition or the Pro versions that have the stiffer suspension for work. So if you are a trail rider who occasionally is in situations where you want to make sure your locked you are SOL. This would have put it more on par with the Kodiak/Griz, Brute, KQ.
@ATVonDemand
@ATVonDemand Жыл бұрын
They could have added it to the XT model and still come in at a lower price than the base model Grizzly. Yeah, it belonged on the XT.

It would have even been much lower than a Kodiak EPS SE and made the upsell from DPS to XT seem more reasonable.

I agree with that. Strange how they only offered every option to the Pro XU but not the XT. Shoulda had an XT-P with that and Fox shocks. I bet it's the engineer team that just won't let go of the Visco design. "They don't need it!" And marketing begs them to switch "but they want it!"...lol Another big negative I think is they should have done better is that weight. Lordy that is one heavy machine, relative to others in its class.

@@ATVonDemand lol...Good idea but the "Go-Fast" riders would lose their sh** if they put a single in a Renegade!! I'm shocked how many people are complaining about this 700, like every ATV ride is about a drag race. If this works, hard to argue with Can-ams position: Large frame single utility, large frame twin big-bores, and lightweight big bores. What's left? An ultralight 2wd Renegade Sport-bike?

I can see over the years how "feature creep" has climbed prices of so many ATVs to where many potential buyers would take a pass. Just offering the single cylinder and one actual displacement size must have been a huge price reduction for the company. Having said that, I am very happy with my V-Twin 850cc Outlander Max for it's smooth engine, smooth ride, and feature rich content. Yet I recognize that is an expensive machine! If Can-Am can produce an ATV of very high reliability with these new models at much lower price, they should have quite a winner.

Feature creep isn’t solely or even mainly responsible for why things are so expensive it’s inflation without incomes rising at the same rate. If economies worked the way they used to products would be getting cheaper like they did for over 100 years thanks to mass production and increased efficiency. Or so says me and I’m a guy on the internet so I can’t be wrong.
@Snarge22
@Snarge22 10 ай бұрын
I hear you@@opnavesea . It's obvious a full-boat V-Twin Outlander Max with numerous options sells for a good 40% more than much more basic ATV's from the competition. I may be wrong, but I think Can-Am realized they had some holes in their line-up and decided it was worth the new design expense to compete in those slots. I just hope they keep manufacturing their V-Twins.

This is the review I was waiting for. Exactly what I wanted to know in terms of the nuts n' guts of the product. Thank you. I think the unwritten bit about this review though is how much CanAm is engaging in 'smoke and mirrors'. Is there a REAL difference between the 500/HD5 and 700/HD7 engines? or is this just marketing BS. There's also the overall industry tendency to have manufacturers 'releasing' new product that they don't actually have. Leaving dealerships to tell would be customers that the product can't even be ORDERED.

Curious why? I've owned a KQ750 and it's a great reliable machine. But they do t upgrade but once a decade and have zero accessories. Everything is universal aftermarket. Which = ugly and a PITA. Brands like Polaris, Arctic Cat, and Can-Am all have quick attach accessories. Being that AC and Polaris started minimizing accessories, Can-Am is king of nice looking OEM integrated accessories. And let's be honest, as much as I've criticized Can-Am over the years, I've never heard of one having an engine reliability issue and now with a new single, what reliability argument keeps one with a boring aging Japanese brand?

@@EC_ATV_Outdoors Well, I don't feel the KQ is a boring aging Japanese brand. I like the styling & dependability. Suzuki hasn't increased they're prices as much as others either (last I'd checked). @@kylethefryan1111 I wouldn't tell someone to not buy one. They are great. But the industry, standard options, and tech have changed and when you buy a Japanese brand, they still have all if those from 10 years ago. And in the case of Kawasaki, what are we at now, 15 years? As for pricing, a couple months ago I was at the shop I had bought my 2018 KQ, the same model was $3.5k more all-in. At that price I can get a modern ATV from other brands. I can get a 2up with more power, a mud machine, a 1up with a plusher ride, more clearance, and dependability too. I know AC isn't popular these days, but one of my ATV's is a 2017 700 and it is as reliable as the KQ. Though the KQ750 has more pep.

@@hank1556 Exactly. And I've owned 4 brands, my Arctic Cat is no less reliable. My Polaris V-Twins were higher maintenance because of greasing and 1 extra oil type. Otherwise, no less maintenance. Unfortunately none of the Japanese brands bring anything new to the table. And based on cost savings for minimal changes, they should be cheaper. But Polaris, Can-Am and AC keep changing every few years and remain cheaper and have upped their reliability to Japanese levels. Well, Honda keeps getting worse these days. But that's another topic.

The 650 puts out the power of most 700's. Using it as a 500 class is a bonus and cuts their production costs. Most manufacturers fudge the numbers. Yamaha's 700 is a 686. Honda's Foreman 500 was 475cc. Suzuki's kingquad 750 is 722cc. I agree though the 500/700 is a little misleading and to me almost almost boarders on fradulent. They should have just stuck the HD5/HD7 style naming like they did on the pro series. Maybe for non-pro models it could have been SD5/SD7 (standard duty versus heavy duty).

I think the idea was to get more separation between utility/entry and the big bores. The old 650 was a great engine but got lost in the line-up. Unecessary power for basic riding, not enough to compete with the big boys. If they are right, they designed this to have more usable power on the low to mid-range.
