Pulled a Tascam DA-30 out of a dumpster in the box! Don't know if you want it, or parts from it. Just had to ask you about it since you seem to like them. Shipping the whole thing to Canada may be cost prohibitive. Let me know what parts you want from it, or the whole thing, otherwise it is getting recycled.

The entire thing would be great as i have one here that has issues a donor may get this one going. Believe it has a main board issue.

These compact systems seem to be prone to these sort of failures as they age. I have a Teac system that i collected over the years, the tuner section went AWOL a few years ago, so i just use another tuner rather than try to source spare parts.

Face it, mini systems were cheap. They were not designed to last

We used to have a model very similar to this. It certainly looks identical. It was purchased by my grandma in 1993 to replace an old Panasonic AM/FM, Turntable and 8-Track recorder AIO... with Thrustmaster speakers! The Yamaha was a great unit, until the display stopped working. The rest of it functioned fine, but I never could figure out why the LCD just quit. It then bit the dust altogether a few years ago.
@12voltvids2 жыл бұрын
The display is lit by an incandescent bulb that will burn out. This was was replaced, by me at the shop many moons ago. The new one is still going and it works on CD only now.

@@12voltvids One thing I found interesting on the Yamaha. If you shorted the speaker wires on one channel (disconnect the wires from the back of the speaker cabinet and touched the wires together), you'd get a brief spark and the protection would kick in (obviously). You'd have to turn off/turn on again power to get it back to normal. It made me wonder how much voltage was running through each channel. Knowing now, if I still had it, I wouldn't try running without speakers connected.

I wonder if the CD and Radio are sending he display signal from two different chips, which would explain why it is working for the CD and not the radio. I wonder if there is some kind of input select path to the display that is controlled by the main board. Perhaps the chip that switches inputs to the display is going bad or has some connection issues?
@12voltvids2 жыл бұрын
I am sure they are. They would both be on an i2c bus and connected in parallel. The display shows whatever it receives till the next packet. CD player kicks out correct data and display works. Switch to say phono or aux or radio and the chip on the amp isn't sending correct data and the display just shows the last data from CD that was there.

Hello. How is the UNI-T oscilloscope to use? It's a CHEAP oscilloscope! I once considered buying one, but after reading a bit about them on the internet, I get the impression that they are a bit out of date, old-fashioned by today's standards.

You can't win 'm all. To bad, looked like a fine above average made compact system. I have several things here that I was going to look at more in depth to fix them. These have been here for years and will probably never get fixed. They only seem to take up space for now.

Owner had a 40 limit to change the belt. Didn't care if it displayed aux, as long as the CD time displays. Only uses as CD and aux for his computer sound. That's it. Doesn't use cassette and doesn't own a turntable and he is a musician. Studio musician with lots of toys in his home studio. Had a full cubase system. Gave me his old stuff to unload including a tascam da30.

@@09danstart correct data is being passed from CD player. That goes through main board. Could be a broken trace or cracked connection on main board but i am not going to the trouble of pulling that for less than 100 for the time involved and the owner had a limit of 40 bucks.
