Amazing fix. I have the same vcr and fixed the blue gear after watching your video. Man if my other 2 machines weren’t so heavy I would ship to you to fix them.

Another great repair done! I am too terrified of dentists. A few years ago I had to go through tooth aponeurosis because one got infected due to a failed filling and the pain I felt before the process began was horrible. Fast forward to last year and that very tooth broke in two because of an accident at work. I had to have it completely removed after that...

I had the same problem. Large mercury amalgam filling cracked the tooth. That is the problem with large fillings. They expand with heat and can crack the tooth. So I needed a crown. Dentist or course has to remove the old filling and prep the base for te crown. Nerve damaged it died after the crown was set. Terrible pain, dentist, on his dime had to do a root canal. Drilled through the new 2000 crown and into the tooth to do the root canal, and fill it. That was 15 years ago all is good. The guy I have now is a real pro, best dentist ever. The guy before was also very good. He had to repair the work that the quack I had when I was a kid did.

Nice repair! This era of Sony machines still look fantastic. I’m sure it’s great for everything playback, recording, and archiving. You just don’t see a pro machine like this nowadays especially when it comes to the design and all the features. (Yeah it’s tape and it’s obsolete) Plus no internet connection required!

This was one of the better machines. It's the same as the slvr1000 except for the BNC connectors and the remote control capability. This one was remote access from hardwired remote. That would have been for editing or use in broadcast. Even though VHS and SVHS was not a broadcast formats it was used. If a tape showed up they would generally bump up to BETACAM and work from there. The vtrs are generally in a rack and the operator controls them remotely. Or in a duplication facility where they could start 100 machines or more all at once.

*Can anyone advise , I have a Sanyo svhs 1991 midmount. I can't get power in the psu to the secondary side of the board , the primary side shows 230v (u.k) on multimeter It is separated by a transformer, I have replaced mostly all capacitor and diodes that were leaking but it still won't power up* 😢

It was fun. Once I looked up the unobtanium part i got the pinout so i could identify the input output and switched input. Then a check revealed it was dead on input.

Yup that's why i haven't had work done for years. When I was a kid i was harmed by an incinoitent dentist. (He was a drunk that list his license to practice). My dad had a good plan and this quack would fill good teeth to pad the bull, that was till he was caught and put in jail. All these little holes he drilled had to be redone because he didn't do it right. All that work now is slowly being removed. The one redone was one that had been fixed 11 years ago and that filling chupped so it was redone. It was during my cleaning lady week they discovered. This broken one and fixed.

I'm kind of curious. Do you ever have bother putting these back together? All the plastic and other crap. Would seem easy to get lost in it.

I've seen that you do not remove the autocleaning sponges on the vcr's you repair sir. Is there any reason not to do it. I usually remove them on my old VCR's and I've heared other people recommend to do so.
@12voltvids3 күн бұрын
I do when they are worn. This one is not finished yet. Some don't use a sponge they use a felt which doesn't rear out. The betacam decks use a series of thin plastic wafers all stacked up. They don't really wear out as they basically work like a plastic file to clear the metal particles.

Dave, have you ever thought about creating detailed tutorials on fixing these stuff? You are one of the few people who have this knowledge that isn't archived anywhere else except from your own brain.

I tried patreon to put up special videos and got zero support. I've had the patreon for years and make about 50 bucks a month. So i don't put content up. It was a reality check

Luckily i dont have to go through the absolute agony of tooth pain, all mine fell out lol Sony had common sense here by using lcd instead of vfd, 7 out of 10 of those suckers wear out in less than 5 years, electroluminescent backlights are beautiful

Every single one of these i work on, i replace all the caps on the power supply, then there are 2 6.3v 1000uf caps on the top video board that are always bad, as well as about 5 100uf caps on the same video board that always read high ESR.
@12voltvids3 күн бұрын
That's probably how the connector got damaged.

The old SLVR5 absolutely, but haven't see too many of these more modern units with bad caps,and I don't just change em for the hell of it because nobody wants to pay a ton.

Ge I had all my wisdom teeth taken out the same day, Doctor had to use laughing gas because he could not use the meds to knock me out. you know they put a syringe on your arm and your out. because I had just had Heart surgery, and he didn't want to use that in fear I would die lol. But hay I was laughing the entire time. I asked him to order me a BIG Bottle of that stuff. I was just kidding with him. NIce Repair. After many years of repairing VCR's this is another one I have never seen.

I had 3 of mine out when I was about 14, with just standard local freezing. Got a script for T3 (codine) that I never took. I have a real high tolerance for pain. Used to race dirt bikes. Broken a few bones in my life and people would say that must really hurt. No didn't bother me. I have had various medical procedures done with no drugs administered. Wide awake watching what was going on. Get a broke bone reset while wide awake with no pain meds and get back to me. Did it hurt, yes, like a son of a bitch, but I didn't want any opioids and that is only because a family friend was given after an accident and was hooked, and then turned to street drugs after doctor cut them off. I don't take anything stronger than asprin.

Try cleaning the control head. Some VCRs mute both the video and audio when they can't detect a control signal from the tape.

@@jasonhandy8442 No worries. In case this doesn't fix it, check if you get a picture during forward and reverse picture search, and pause. Watch closely if the tape slips vertically on the stationary ACE head (audio-control-erase) when it starts playing. If it slips up/down, you probably need a new pinch roller, or maybe just a thorough cleaning of the pinch roller and capstan.
@12voltvids3 күн бұрын
Check for control track. Could be a dirty head.
