Car should be running when you check the tranny fluid. (i'm old enough to remember when you could say "tranny" and people knew it was just a transmission you were talking about)

Hey Aubrey can you ask HP when I should get my transmission fluid changed because my car is at 112k miles and I'm not having any issues with the car there's no leaks there's no problems that I could see but there's a lock on the transmission fluid top so I can't even inspect the fluid when do you or HP think I should get the oil change for the transmission even though I'm not having any suspected issues with my vehicle I guess I just want to stay ahead of the game I don't want to wait for it to smell bad to do something about it. Hello! according to HP it depends on the vehicle but for some cars it's every 5 years or 50-60k miles for CVT trans but for most other cars doing it every 100k miles is a good bet for most vehicles

30-60K miles depending on what kind of car you have. But tons of people don't change their transmission fluid because of myths going around that if you don't have problems then don't change it or it will start slipping once you change it. Replace the oil and filter, and use OEM fluid and filter only. Even if the fluid itself is not dirty and completely clear, the additives in the fluid can break down over time and won't protect your transmission components as well as they should.
