Did this trip in 2011. Would love to do it again! Cheers from NSW.

I can't wait to do it again as well. Absolutely loved it!

The open observation coach is a great idea. They don't have those in the UK
@AlexsTrainChannel2 жыл бұрын
It is the best part of the train, in my opinion. You will only find 'open air' carriages on preserved/tourist railways in Australia, so they are rare to come across on a commercial train!

Would you look at that, a modern locomotive hauled train. Why can't we have something like this to replace the N sets on our long distance regional services rather than the proposed buffet module Vlocity?
@AlexsTrainChannel5 жыл бұрын
The buffet car in a vlocity may well end up designed similar. I'm not sure anything concrete has been reported on the designs apart from rumours? This was also a 10 hour trip so for that distance they may choose to provide at least some seating for people to have a meal or snack.

@@haulinmedia I believe it was a reference to the modern rollingstock, not the loco. I can see how you might think it refers to the loco though.
@davidlipscombe9164 жыл бұрын
@@AlexsTrainChannel Even the rolling stock is the same vintage as the Loco , they are ex MkII BritIsh carriages
@AlexsTrainChannel4 жыл бұрын
Very true. Despite their modern appearance I did do some research to discover that the kiwi rail passenger rollingstock is an older build ex british rail. Looks can be deceiving.

Went on this train back In 1995 great trip. The train was older back then this one is rebuilt or new carriages.
@AlexsTrainChannel5 жыл бұрын
I believe they are new carriages, built in 2012 at dunedin on the South Island.
@davidlipscombe9164 жыл бұрын
@@AlexsTrainChannel Also the carriages that were parked up in Taumarunui also were refurbished at Hillside in Dunedin at around the same time as the KR units and all these are ex BR MkII carriages . The parked up ones were used around Auckland before the system was Electrified .

I used travel a lot by train in my younger days specaially on the express trains that travelled at night. What was the cause of the train arriving late into Wellington.
@AlexsTrainChannel4 жыл бұрын
Signal failures between Auckland and Hamilton were the issue.

Nice journey but the seat just doesn't look comfortable at all.
@AlexsTrainChannel4 жыл бұрын
I found them quite comfy for the trip. As you can see in the video I did get up and move around a fair bit so I wasn't in the seat for hours on end however.
