I really like the pony attitude, they make you earn their respect and their work. I think all kids should learn on ponies. One of the first horses I learned on was a pinto pony mare named Kyla. She didn't give anything, she made you earn it but was the best pony in the world when you put in the time and patience and respected her. She was safe and bombproof as long as you took it easy with the girth (a great lesson to learn early). She really taught me how to treat a horse and how to work with a horse. Some would call some of her teaching moments being naughty, but I call it showing what can happen when you're complacent or don't respect a horse. I would have taken so much for granted if I was learning a push button horse and I'm so grateful to that little mare. Push button horses can be fun, but I think it's good to pay your dues with those ponies that make you earn it and make you feel so accomplished.

HI Shae. Buzz is coming along really nicely! I totally agree with you that pony's get a bad rap because people don't train them like the true equine that they are. Buzz is clearly a very intelligent and adaptive little horse. I've trained dogs for almost 40 years and I see exactly the same thing when it comes to people training "little dogs". Just because they are smaller doesn't mean you just let them get away with being "naughty" because it's "cute". Your firm holding the line on your expectations and gentle training with him and his intelligence has allowed you to make huge progress in little time. I can't wait to see you drive him with a little cart! Driving him flawlessly in a cart competition, now that would be "cute" to see!

He's learned to trust you/Kyle as his leader(s), he's getting to know what's expected, and he feels at home now. Plus your training techniques are gentle and kind (love the loose girth until ready to start.) Love that you're careful, too, about his diet (not too much sugar for healthy preventative measures) . All of Buzz's body language says, I am relaxed and I like you people. Too bad you don't have a surcingle his size to see if he drives. I dressed my dogs up to be horses when I was little. I even made a "stall" in the back porch to show that we DID have room for a pony at our house in the city with the tiny back yard. I also remember at least 3 Christmas's where I cried for hours because I got Breyers model horses and not a real horse or pony. My parents said years later it was the hardest thing to have a child who was inconsolable and didn't care about any of the other presents. I think you and I share a lot in common about our hunger to work with and know horses. The horses, each one, made my life better just by being themselves. Thank you for taking the time to make the videos that we all enjoy. Be safe and have a Happy New Year.

I did the same to my dog when I was a kid. She was a German shepherd mix so she had the pointy ears like a horse. I would use my dad's scrap wood make little jumps and she would jump them for me haha. She was an awesome pretend horse. Now I have a Doberman and he has pointy ears and I walk him on a Halti head collar 🤣 he is Literally being lead around like a horse. So he is now my pretend horse.

Nope, I’m glad I only bought him. I didn’t want 2 smaller ponies. They were only together for 2 days at the auction, they weren’t life companions. Also the other pony got a home.
