I'm so sorry for you and pray God touches Jiminy and completely heals this precious boy.i know you must have so much on your mind but I'd like to offer a suggestion if you haven't already done so. please go through your pasture that Jiminy was grazing in. since you have received so much rain lately they could possibly be a weed of some kind that could be poisonous to horses which he could of gotten into. I love you and kyal so much and relive my past years as a horse owner and trainer through your experiences. you have a precious soul and I pray for your strength through this difficult time. much love my sweet.❤

My horse died before my very eyes from a twisted intestine. This was in 1978, and my parents wouldn't even consider doing surgery on my Thunder. To this very day, I still suffer from PTSD over this traumatic event. I am a veteran who survived serious injuries sustained in the Munich Oktoberfest terrorist bombing on September 26,1980, and I don't suffer near the PTSD from that event as I do over losing my horse. I wish a complete recovery of your beautiful heart horse!

You are living out the dream that I never got to. I'm just so happy for you that Jiminy is going to be all right that I'm going to buy some of the sugar scrub. I don't have horses but I have four dogs and and have fostered at least a couple hundred dogs for local rescue. We work with them in a very similar way to the way you work with your horses. It's clear you have a really good understanding of not only applied behavioral analysis but also just good old-fashioned common sense. I love that you follow the horses lead. I tell my adopters all the time that they have to follow their new dogs time table not theirs. Please keep up the good work and sharing all your triumphs and challenges with us. Yes, you could see it in his eyes when she started hand feeding him the mash. He just needed a little pampering from his momma. We all do when we don't feel well. Even my non-snuggly dog comes to me for comfort when he doesn't feel well, or when there are loud noises like fireworks. He hates fireworks and we live about 5 blocks from where they shoot them off. Sometimes the will have them every night for a week for various occasions. On those nights we give him a mild seditive. It really helps!

Heartbreaking to see Jiminy recovering from surgery. I had a mare twist her intestines at a horse show. We trailered her to Purdue University in the middle of the night and she had surgery. It was the longest night of my life, and a very long recovery with lots of stall rest with hand walking only -slowly increasing amount every few days. Also, it cost $4000 back in the late 80s, would love to hear how much it is now. I'm sure the cost would be eye-opening for your viewers.
@nancysouder51113 ай бұрын
No, you wouldn't want to know the cost. 😊 My dog had to have surgery on his cheek to remove an imbedded thorn, it cost $850 and that was relatively cheap. The veterinary hospital was quoting me a price of up to $10,000 depending on "what they found". At that time we did not know what it was. Took him to a wonderful country vet, he saw the thorn in an ex-ray. There's a lot more to the story but this is the short version. The long version can get boring. LOL

I know that Golden Retrievers are prone to cancer and got insurance on my heart dog Gus who I had just before Auggie. Gus was a rescue who was a therapy dog who visited mentally ill teens and adults every week. We also went to a local university during mid-terms and finals as well as other stress relief therapy requests. He was 18 months old when we rescued him. He was diagnosed with lymphoma and thank goodness for his insurance. We were also very fortunate to get a grant that had been given to his therapy organization by PetSmart (so to all of you who give an extra $1 or $2 at PetSmart your money does help so much!). Insurance covered $9,000. We lost him in 2019 to kidney failure but we had an extra 2.5 years because of his treatment. I totally understand doing everything you can.

I lost two heart horses to colic each one after trying to save them with colic surgery, so this stirs up a lot of emotion for me.The first horse 10 yrs old got illeus after colic surgery and never came home after surgery. The second was my heart horse I lost 2 years ago. She was 26 yrs old and I had had her since she was 3 yrs old. She had colic surgery and coliced and died 6 months later. On top of that the two hospital stays and surgeries pretty much wiped out my retirement savings. I am very glad to hear Jiminey is doing so well. For many horses colic surgery is successful and buys them many more years. I hope Jiminey is one of them. I know you are not a fan of opinions so I will just leave you with this. Keep an eye on Jiminey long after recovery. He may not want to go through another freezing winter outside at night. 24 or 26 is old for a horse and he may need extra tlc. Once a horse esp an older horse starts colic, there may possibly be many more ahead. This last tip is from smartpak and a good reminder. I know you will know all this but others may not. Changing hay, including changing types or switching to a new cutting of the same type, can increase a horses colic risk 10 times! Plus, any changes in grain can increase a horses risk up to 5 times! Lastly from my vet an older horses intestines start to lose motility and the ability to push feed through. Make sure they get a lot of water. Don't over grain and make their grain more like a grain soup to hydrate as much as possible. I am so worried about Jiminey. I hope Jiminey will feel better soon. This is the hardest part of owning a horse.

Animals are always so tough because they can't tell you what's wrong. And they'll instinctively hide any issues. Especially prey animals, such as horses. The herd can turn on them in the wild if they have any issues that can make the herd bigger targets for predators. Even though they're safe in human care, their instincts can't make that distinction. It was so great, and no doubt a massive relief for Jiminy when you visited. 'As long as Mom is still loving on me, things are okay.' I'm sending loving & healing vibes to him. ❤ Thank you so much Shae for sharing these kind of things. As much as I would love to own my own horse, instead of just having regular lesson horses, I know I can't afford it. And your reinforcement of knowing what kind of unexpected costs can come up remind me that it would not be fair to a horse to have an owner that would not be in a financial position to provide for all their needs. Sad, but important for me...and others to know.

I had friends with a beautiful young Morgan. Maybe 6 years old. A neighbor looking through his back window noticed the horse acting strangely in the paddock, rolling, standing up, distending his neck, hanging his head, stretching his neck low, moving his legs strangely, rolling again. It was just weird behavior. The neighbor called the friends of mine to let them know what was going on with their horse in the paddock, and they loaded him up and took him straight to UVM. Their beautiful horse was all colicky and twisted inside. I don’t remember the exact diagnosis, but despite the best efforts of the vet, he died later that night. Inspire of their enormous size, they can have the most delicate constitutions. I am so sorry your baby is struggling. Glad MSU could help your Jiminy. I hope and pray he makes a full recovery. I just learned that these lipomas are happening more frequently to elder horses…They said more frequently only because horses lives are thankfully getting extended because they know so much more about their nutrition. I just thought I would share for those of us not lucky enough to have one of those Beautiful animals!❤️

Am so glad Jim is feeling better. My Shadow had a colicky situation. The vet came out. She put a tube down thru and put electrolytes in. He had to stay in his “house” - I only had the one horse. She left medication in shot form which I dosed him with once a day. What ever caused it, by the end of 2 weeks, he was well again and I was so thankful. It is hard not knowing and I loved him dearly. He was calm and sweet. I miss him. I lost him and my adopted greyhound almost at the same time. It was a rough year. I enjoy watching all of your horse videos and appreciate seeing them so much!! Prayers for you and Kyle.

So thankful to the vet staff at the University! I'm glad you have a place you can trust to take him to and leave him in good hands, must be so scary to leave a horse ESPECIALLY when they are sick. Sending good thoughts 🙏

Jiminy looks like a different horse from the show to after the surgery and even better after you arrived and talked to him. Hope he is better soon and lives for many more years well looked after and loved.
