Lol wouldn't be the first time an LCD-X sounds like that. The resolution is quite good for what it sells for but it is truly excessively airy and super recessed at 4k, even for me. Last one I had I think I bumped 4k by 5 dB, and that was just beginning to get back to sanity, lol. MX4 is very interesting because it should play VERY loud, probably louder than LCD1. I'd buy it over the 4Z I think, but 3k is definitely very excessive in price from what I heard at CanJam, so that sounds right to me 👍

Wow, I thought I was the only one with this opinion. I bought the LCD-GX after comparing theses. Love it, use it to late night binge watch Netflix for 5-6 hours straight. Comfortable as LCDs get. Good video!

The unit variation on these X's is insane. My LCD-X has a noticable dip between 3-4k and there's a small peak at 10k. Other than that, I'm extremely lucky I don't have any other problems that you have experienced with that unit. No issues with the soundstage either. I do EQ mine just to add a slight more oomph in the 20-60hz region.

AdeelZero I’m with you. My pair (early 2019) don’t sound nearly as wonky as the LCD-X reviewed. My biggest issue with my pair are the recessed mids. I’ve been considering the MX4’s as an upgrade. I’ll have to get some listening in.

@@ValentineLuke Yeah, mine is from 2018 and I'd suggest save up an extra $1k and go for the LCD-4 or you could get a used one under warranty for about $2.5k from Headfi.

Thanks for the honest review. I agree 100% on the general Audeze sounds. It's unnatural and off to my ear, but no other reviewer mentioned it. Also, I agreed 100% on the Audeze variance problem. Until you hear how different two of the same headphone can sound, you have no idea.

I love my LCD-X and am getting used to the MX4s. Sounds fundamentally different, flatter, less 'air'. Amazing experience with the upgrade so far. Only gripe is they are floppy as hell for $3k. Once you find the right spot on your head they sit well, but if you bend over or recline or change the angle of your head whatsoever, they start to twist and pull off. Wish this was addressed with the MX4.

LCD-2 Closed is my favourite of these besides the GX which I haven't heard. The soundstage is quite limited anyway so the closed design doesn't take away anything for me, but helps making them more energetic, balanced and cuts off the peaks.

Interesting comment about the sound being colored by the cup. I get that on the LCD-2F as well (it kinda sounds a little...cavernous). I think the big leather pads make the sound worse and this sort of sound is not something that I've ever heard on any other headphone. My LCD-2F also has ringing in the upper mids on stock FR (upper mids are withdrawn, so no peaks there) which makes vocals and pianos a little shouty.

I just bought my LCD-X yesterday and I think it's even worse, horrible channel imbalance (right is louder) 1.5-2 dB across the entire frequency range and 3-5 dB at 8k-10k (no measurements, just my listening experience and playing with eq) this is so frustrating, going to return it tomorrow. Not sure if I want to try my luck again ... but I loved the sound so much ...

Let's just all pretend like it's normal for a 1700 USD headphone to have such rampant quality control issues. I really want to demo the x but what a risk. Maybe if Audeze wanted me to test out a unit and place the findings somewhere that would aleviate my doubts hehe....

@@metal571 I appreciate the response metal! Let me pick your brain for a second! I think I have a bunch of mid fi cans and id maybe like to consolidate a little. I have 600,650, HFM 5se, 400i, Acoustic Research AR H1, x2HR, B and W P7 Wireless, Denon 7200, Koss 95x, 1990dt and I dont really no where to go. I've heard flagship cans at shows but i think its tough to tell in a loud environment. (i liked utopia, HE1000s for sure) I think im looking for dynamics/Dynamic slam, detail, sound stage and imagining with good build quality and decent clamp (i like 650 clamp). What would truly be a step up from what I have? I'm a firm believer in diminishing returns, but these 1000k plus cans have to have something special to justify their price...no?

I am a music producer. If this headphone is the real deal for mastering engineers. Based on the MM 500 being the best at this category, that means $ 1699 MM 500 should plummett the $3000 MX4 right? On Another note so now that the MM 500 exist, which is better now to mix and master on $1699MM 500, $3000 MX4, $4500 Lcd 5 or Heddphone?

These are all extremely good headphones in the context of all headphones though, yeah? I feel like these videos would be more accessible to normal people if you reviewed them in that context, rather than just in the context of high end headphones. This review basically assumes that the viewer knows what a $1k+ Audeze sounds like and just explains how these differ from that.

So the lcd-gx directly compares to the hifiman he-6 in resolution/value for the price I guess, except for the better quality built, weight and driversensitivity, but propably worse slam/danamics (he-6 is doublesided, technically superior) and Frewuency Response (he-6 is bright, but much more neutral than any fullsize lcd)

Thx for the answer max, I once had the famous 4-screh he-6, and it was definitly bit bright and not 100 clean in csd.
