The midrange issue can easily be rectified with out resorting to EQ. Its shocking how much of a difference to the midrange the pads make, its the clamp that’s causing a lot of the energy in the treble. by loosening the single scroos that hold the cup to the band at the top, there set in notches, it has a large effect on the tonality. That is how i balanced out the lcdx, happy experimenting

Still a wonderful headphone, when looking at the complete package. I sold my old LCD2 (early rev2) and my HD800 when I got a Utopia as I felt it pretty much captured everything I needed - no point in having two other open backs. However, I will say if you get an LCD2 for the right price they are just superb. Just a bit muted on the top end (muted but still with plenty of transient detail). The LCD2 is no slouch. If I had to scale back down it would be a difficult decision between LCD2 2020, HD800, HD800S, HD560S, Hifiman Sundara, Hifiman Ananda. All excellent headphones.

@@anatol1204 I would master of speakers. It may be possible to engineer and even master on these IEMs using spatial dsp on the very nd of the chain (don't bounce your final export with it on of course). Combined with visual metering and comparison to reference tracks (also monitored through the same spatial DSP), it may be possible. I would also use a SubPac to montior SubBass frequencies. In some ways, this type of setup IEM + spatal DSP + SubPac has advantages. It is a controlled virtual room space that will sound the same wherever you take your studio. Even with a speaker setup it could be a good reference. Waves Abbey Road will also simulate 3 speaker types. Waves also has an EQ preset for the HD600. I'm not fmailiar with the Beyers, but I imagined EQ'd they would be quite close in sound. Personally, I feel the Moondrop SSR sound the most speaker like, even over the Blessing 2. I couldn’t say hey that’s 5k or that’s 8k... I have no idea. I would interested to know how to train yourself to differentiate frequencies like that. Also, is there a reliable measuring rig that’s not too expensive. I would gladly invest a couple hundred bucks to have something that would help me fine tune (or experiment with) my headphones, but I guess if it was inaccurate my eq’ing would be off. That in turn would probably be the way I’d learn to hear the differences ( did I just answer my own question?) 🤨. Anyway, any suggestions?

Yeah there's a new GRAS knockoff that a lot of people are getting. Supposedly it's quite similar to the official one. You may have to look for it on aliexpress or something, I'm not sure. Look for the KB5000 or 711 standard stuff. The MiniDSP EARS is another option that a lot of people have but it is NOT accurate, and is only useful for comparison purposes. With regards to training yourself to get better at EQ, a lot of this is just trial and error, use equalizer APO with Peace UI, and try adjusting the sliders around. See how different frequency ranges sound.
@metal5714 жыл бұрын
EARS isn't even that good for comparison purposes. Due to its highly inaccurate acoustic impedance, each headphone will measure differently than it would on a GRAS and in different ways, unfortunately. And yes, most humans can't just listen to a headphone and pinpoint a frequency peak by ear. I know I can't give you an exact value by listening, just a guess within in a range of frequencies, and do trial and error from there. And each of our EQ presets won't work for everybody, but you can use them as a starting point

They have this lovely balance of detail, slam and stereo image that isn't found anywhere else in this price range, despite if being quite high. I do think that there really ought to be a cheaper Planar that does what these do, especially since Planar in ears are somehow managing similar specs at almost a 10th of the price. the only budget planar over ears I didn't try were the monoprice variants, but it's rather sad and perhaps a reflection of just how Niche the product is that none have really succeeded yet beside these (albeit not terribly well). We all need to have roon to use reviel app? Or is their other software for eq headphones that is easy to use? Soon as I hear basically all these headphones needing some form of eq just makes me not excited to purchase.

As a budding audiophile, how the hell do you 'EQ a headphone?' I know what an equalizer is and how to use one, and my own preferences on one as such, but every single app I've tried to use to apply an EQ adds a bunch of signal noise and processing bullshit that sounds awful. The 650 has boost in 1-5k, while this one is just the opposite. However having angled drivers usually boost 2-6kHz more than measurements indicate, especially in the 4-6k. Most Audeze have the 1-5k dip, very strange HPs.

Damn i want this headphone :) Ananda and Elex $300 cheaper which puts them in radar of mid-fi consumers. Big difference tbh. LCD 2, LCD X steps in to flagship territory. I hope they cut $200 from 2, 2C, 2CB and GX. With this pricing LCD X is more tempting. Ananda's tonality is appropriate but it benefits a lot from eq too. 1.5k dip and 3k peak skews the tonality and timbre in my opinion. When you add 2-3db between 1200-2400hz and cut 2-3db between 3000-5000hz tonality drastically improves with my Ananda. Ifi Zen Can xbass feature works sweet as well. LCD 2 and Zen Can would be amazing combo.

Am I the only one who find this to be a joke? And LCD-2 are not the only joke from Audeze, LCD-X has the same story. If I need to tune these, why do I pay you for? Just sell me the parts and I will do the tuning in one way or another. I actually ordered an LCD-X and then cancelled the order when I learned that nobody really knows what LCD-X sounds like before testing it (yes they are that inconsistent) and that Audeze has a graph that I need to follow in order to tune whatever sound my pair has.
