Happy new year everyone and thanks for following our new KZbin channel! Here's hoping 2019 is full of DIY fixes and new cars for us.
In this episode of the Audi A3 project car we change the cambelt and waterpump on the 2.0 FSI non-turbo engine. This job can be completed in roughly 4-6 hours depending on tools and how quickly you get the engine mount bracket out.
You will need to drain the coolant for this job. Make sure you mark the cambelt properly and compare the new parts with the old parts.
Turn the engine over 4 times after fitting the new belt and tensioning it up. If all the markings on the pulleys and housing line up then you should have the same timing as before.
We got our Gates cambelt kit from eBay, I suggest you send the seller your VIN number. The white out marker I got from the local supermarket in the stationery section.

Thank you so much for mentioning it was an AXW engine in the description, I thought O no, my rollers & pulleys in my kit looks different (BLR motor), and then i realised the FSI round those years had 2-3 engines, similar but a very minor differences lol. Also great video on it, I always put it to TDC so i can find marks if all else turns to S##, but i think you had great workmanship and communication skills regardless, I know a lot of shops that don't put it to TDC.

Thanks, we are still learning but try our best to do the job properly. Yes its super confusing there are so many variations of this engine and for some reason a lot of parts are not interchangeable!

When I removed the engine mount bracket the engine dropped a bit. Do you need to support the engine prior to removal?
@LueysGarage
@LueysGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Yes apologies if that was not clear in the video, you need to support the engine by using a jack with a block of wood on the sump. Anytime you undo the engine mount you need to do this.

How did you mark the new belt with white out before you put it on? By counting the teeth between the marks on your old one?
@LueysGarage
@LueysGarage 5 жыл бұрын
Yes we did, no need to count teeth just put the 2 belts next to each other to make it match

why no locking tools and how to set the tensioner on these vids
@LueysGarage
@LueysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
There's no need to do any locking if you mark up the belt and pulleys properly. Best to put the engine into TDC before marking. Tensioner was just a matter of rotating it in the right direction and tightening it up from memory, its pretty easy to work out

This is a non turbo engine right,?
@LueysGarage
@LueysGarage 2 жыл бұрын
That's correct, but I believe the process is very similar for the turbo

Hi! I hawe the same engine AXW. This is the first video when i heard wat engine code it is. I hawe a problem with a coolant leaking. On the right side of the engine its a pipe in a shape of a T. Its betwen that hose that its come from the inside and go thru radiator. Can you tell me whats the name of that part or how i can find it please? Thank you!
@LueysGarage
@LueysGarage 3 жыл бұрын
I don't have the car anymore sorry so can't help too much. Try looking for AXW coolant hose or 2.0 FSI coolant hose. Also it may just be the clamps are loose, Audi uses spring tension clamps instead of jubilee, a lot of the time if you just use a proper clamp you can sort out fluid leaks on these cars

Great video. Easy to follow. I just bought the same car and don't need to do the belt for another couple of years maybe but good to see how to do it and with a commentary in an accent I can understand. By the way, how much was the belt kit? I've been browsing Ebay but couldn't seem to find the right one. Do you have a part no. by any chance? Cheers!

Glad you're enjoying the video and best of luck when you have to do it yourself. It is totally doable as a DIY job if you follow the steps. The eBay item was this one, but send your VIN number to the seller to confirm its the right part! www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283244241868

@@LueysGarage I managed to get a genuine VW/Audi cambelt kit with pulleys and tensioner, and also a genuine waterpump, for the total of $220NZ including shipping from Ebay. Repco wanted $700+ for a Gates kit like you used. :)

How do you line up the camshaft and crankshaft pulleys if the belt was broken?
@LueysGarage
@LueysGarage 2 жыл бұрын
You would need to use the timing marks on the pulleys. There's probably a guide somewhere online for doing that

Yeah good idea, there's definitely a few ways to do it, the important thing is to keep the timing consistent after installing the new belt

When removing the engine mount bracket no engine support is necessary?
@LueysGarage
@LueysGarage 4 жыл бұрын
Sorry I didn't make it explicitly clear in the video, you need to have a jack with a block of wood supporting the sump so the engine doesn't drop. You can see it in the background but I forgot to mention that step
