My a6 breaks have been speaking for months and this has really helped me nail what was wrong! So helpful! Thankyou!

As a qualified mechanical and electrical tradesman, I am appalled at the lack off quality information on the internet. The information you provide is top class and people should be forced at gunpoint (just joking) to watch this video and therefore learn how to perform a brake job safely and correctly.

Finally a video that explains the issue I'm having with my A4! Spent hundreds of $$$ changing the motor and brake pads but not fixing the sound. Cheers from Malaysia.

Great work Dave. I'm a convertee to ceramic as of now! Never used copper in that area for reasons you've highlighted and it's astounding really how many still do. 👌🏻

Learn something new every day and I thought I knew quite a lot about cars! My excuse for copper grease was simply ‘because I was told to once’ and have ever since. Not anymore though. Cheers Dave, nice work 🍻

Top man. Got exactly this squeak one of my cars - 2012 A4. I was expecting an issue with the parking brake actuator but, watching this, I'm hopeful it is just the pads. If it is the actuator, I see TRW now offer a rebuild kit though.

So what I got out of it was when I change the brake pads, don’t do a half ass job, use proper grease(not copper lol) in the right locations after cleaning those areas, and insert fresh pads. Thanks for the video!

Hi Dave, I have worked with a mechanic that would used a copper grease/engine oil mix. That stuff went everywhere. I use the same ceramic grease as you and have never had a problem. Cheers mate

I have the same sound but it works. the computer check up saying (break motor) must I change the both motors? Or it’s okay to keep it like this with the sound ?

It’s all the contaminates (salt, pad dust, road grit) sticking to the lubricant working to undermine its performance. Some well made points Dave. Enjoy Silverstone 👍

I've used Pro Slip grease on sliders Dave, backs of pads and the carrier legs and clips. Different grease for each part. Good point about a full strip and rebuild, wire brush and new hardware, otherwise pointless doing it. Great video and excellent points.

Why grease back of pads?

@@davesterl just the contact points on the piston face, edges of the pad, and the area where it contacts the carrier legs. I'm not spreading it on like jam! 👍

The classic debate about copper grease, I am guilty of using this stuff for brakes in the 90s 😊.
@scotspie501douglas73 жыл бұрын
can you change your brake pads on a electronic parking without VCDS ,the old fashioned way by winding the piston in
@wildatlanticcars87892 жыл бұрын
Technically.. you can do this job without VCDS or another OBD software that allows basic servicing functions - but you shouldn't. If your a DIY'r its well worth spending the money on a single car license with VCDS, roughly $200
@gunhojack9152 жыл бұрын

Quick bit of info, I thought same as you that the ceramic is rubber safe for the sliders, I checked with granville direct and they advised it isn't and it will swell the rubbers. It's good stuff but gets absolutely everywhere !
@davesterl3 жыл бұрын
interesting, i'll keep an eye on that
@offbeatwarble3 жыл бұрын
@@davesterl I haven't found it to actually do it, but as I say, they say it isn't for sliders / rubber compatible
@ianrimmer19683 жыл бұрын
I use red rubber grease on the sliders and ceramic grease on the pads and carrier. I’ve Never had a problem with ceramic grease. Granville sell the red rubber grease.
@offbeatwarble3 жыл бұрын
@@ianrimmer1968 yeah a good alternative. I now use MOLYKOTE® G-3407 Caliper Pin Grease, it's got good anti fretting properties that the other options don't have, best I have found so far for caliper pins, used by manufacturers and lasts really well.

A vékony fékbetétek miatt nyikorog. A motornak nagyon ki kell jönnie és azért zajos.. Csak a fékbetéteket elég kicserélni és megszűnik a zaj.
