Traded in my 2019 Golf R line for this very model in White.. Absolutely love it with the 2 litre petrol and 7 speed Auto box. Looks stunning with the black Sport Pack accents and wheels. Oozes elegance and style.

I drove a 2021 A5 sportback as a loaner from Audi while my turbo got replaced in my A3. I honestly really enjoyed the A5. It was my first experience with a virtual cockpit and the Apple CarPlay was convenient (I prefer Google Maps over the Audi navigation through the MMI). The only underwhelming thing about the car, IMO, was the acceleration. I chalk this up to the A5 being a heavier and more full size sedan compared to my A3, which giddy-ups when I lay it down in S-mode. The acceleration was not a real negative though, and I'd see the A5 as a practical family sedan with many of the comforts you'd come to expect from a modern Audi luxury car.

Nice review, beautiful car. 35Tdi more than enough. Stunning in black or Daytona grey with black pack. I love this style of interior also. Actual knobs and switches instead of all touch screen. Ripping the soul out of cars now sadly.

Great review! I just bought a 2019 with less than 30, 000kms or less than 18,000 miles on it (kms or miles depending where you live), accident free and in beautiful shape plus warranty left for 1 year( plus another year warranty from Audi as it is a Certified pre-owned), pick up in a few days as I wanted the back windows tinted like this car. 😊

The dilemma here is not just another VW car to choose from, but another Audi! You can spec a 40TDI A6 Quattro with options for the same price as the A5 40TDI Quattro. And some of the options on the A5 are way more expensive. If you want MMI Plus navigation and the Virtual Cockpit it's €4K on the A5! It's €2.2K on the A6. The A6 has the newer tech, it's a newer Audi model, it's a class up, bigger and more luxurious. So what would make you chose an A5 SB? Maybe the looks? A more nimble car? I'm struggling here to come up with reasons!

A6 is just boxy and plain, sure on sportline it’s a bit more tarty, but won’t win any beauty pageants, which is why people buy A5, it just has killer looks and Audi ratchet up the extras, greedy but people will still buy them, cause they just look way better. TBF sportback is way more practical than a saloon in terms of load carrying…

Hi Nobby. Excellent review as always. Got an arteon over this 2 years ago because it has a bigger boot, more rear seat space and all the safety equipment as standard on the r line version. A similar specced A5 would cost about €65 grand. Got to admit the A5 does look better though. Keep up the good work.

I configured my perfect A5, with all the lovely trimmings included and it came to about €78,000. Am I put off by that price for what you get in the car? No. Can I afford it though? No! Maybe I could get it on finance or a leasing deal. The wife wants it too, so having her blessing is half of the battle won. I just need to work and save my ass off now.

In the UK this is equivalent to the Edition 1 spec. S line doesn't have some of the mentioned features e.g. Blacked out trims, different Alloys, no flat bottom steering wheel

I had a 181 for a few years and loved it but the older 148hp TDI wasn’t great, especially with the laggy 7 speed auto. I like the facelift but my driving suits a phev, so let’s see what the next gen has to offer.

Got an A5 as lease company car coming in, i was very much on a low budget due to company limitations but i plan to do some aftermarket upgrades, its is only a 30 Tdi standard 136 hp but a stage 1 tune can pump it to 185 hp for just +/-300 euro. Only picked business package and carplay with interior lightning package and then there was no budget left 😊 the black package can be done by wraps de-chrome, as the windows and black mirrors. I am really a sucker for the looks of this car. Never thought I was going to get it as a company car. Very exited. i picked this car even over a full option CLA 250 e

Mine is a 2017 and I have the virtual cockpit and apple carplay. You cant gun the A5 down for these when the particular car that you are in doesn't have these extras. Other than that its a good review of the car.

Own one.... exactly same as the video with pan roof. After owning a 2014 a5 sport back and having nothing but issue after issue and never ending shit drive, I decided to opt for the new one. Exactly the same. First major pothole and the car never drives the same again. Weak as butter in a microwave 🤦 straight trade in now for a 5 series bmw. Don’t get me wrong the car ain’t bad, but just a typical Audi A5 weak build...and the back seats are piss poor for room. No room for a taller person at all 🤷‍♀️

Thx for the review! I wanted the A5 so bad, and in the end I bought, 2017 though. I thought the same, about S line, that its a must, and 3 zone climate, alcantara s seats, even virtuella cockpit, mmi, navi, s Stering wheel, Matrix lights, but shit, I get more and more frustrated when I see what more This model can have. When I looked to buy, if it has this, it doesnt have that and vice versa...gonna try to pack it more. The thing is that prices are very very different, based on the equipment, and very hard to find used, fully, fully equiped with all that car can have.

It can take a very long time to find the spec you want when used. The options list can also be endless but probably only a former dealer demo will have the most options ticked

Agressive exterior styling, S-line exterior and interior, black optics package, panoramic sunroof…. And the weakest diesel available, no virtual cockpit, the default climate control, probably no auto-hold either (90£ option). Honestly, this is the perfect car to show off to the neighbors, but will make you cry when you are remembered it is not a fast car 😢

Then how is it that even in the A series, they not only have something called SPORTback, but also an "S line" within the A series?! Also what is the difference then between an A5 sport back and the S5 sport back?? Also, which year has the 5-seater, 2021?

S-Line is a trim spec. S is not as detailed as S-Line. Sport back is just the physical design of the car, it’s a sloping boot / roof essentially. S5 is a more powerful version in the A5 body style. Think of a comparison between a Golf and a Golf GTI as a basic way of describing it.
