We had a customer who loaned a VW Sharan for a weekend once. It was in pristine condition when they picked it up, but when we got it back (3 days late), it looked like they'd had a quite a party in it. The fold down tables were broken, french fries all over the floor, smelled like a dutch oven, puke on the 3rd seat row and much more I've forgotten over the years. Can't remember the price to repair it, but it wasn't cheap. We never got hold of the customer, and they never paid the repair bill. And the person who lent it out forgot to take credit info. And no, they didn't buy a car from us either...

Right?! 15 miles to empty? How was that sentence not immediately followed by 'although it should have never gotten that low, we just didn't have enough to make it from the dealer straight to the gas station?' If I was the test driver, I'd be too worried about the inevitable happening to really be focused on my purchase. I know, because I test drove a new powerstroke that was below e. I really didn't want to get stranded, be responsible for a tow, and any problems from running a new diesel dry. When I told the salesman we really needed fuel, he basically said let the next guy worry about it. Wtf? Do you think I want to buy something this expensive from people who act like that? I try to give people the benefit of the doubt, but theres really no good excuse for this. Porsche, selling a $130k car makes it even worse.

@@karlhurn I think the better way to do it, is to just not interact at all. By liking/disliking/sharing/commenting, it all helps the video analytics. So, by simply writing a comment, it actually helps the video look more successful because of the way the algorithm works. So, if you’d rather not contribute to Ed buying another Lambo, you’re best bet is to just click another video when you’ve gotten to a point you dislike. That’s not to say I care that you dislike the video, or don’t want you to comment. I couldn’t care less about either. Ford's policy regarding test droves is amazing. I walked into a Ford dealership in 2017, parked my bicycle outside and went to the counter. I told the salesman upfront 'I can't afford a Mustang, but I really want to try driving one with a V8'. He smiled at me and said 'sorry, we don't have any demo cars with the V8'. I curiously asked if I could try the 2.3 EcoBoost and to my surprise he said yes! He then told me it's Ford's policy to let everyone try their cars - it's an investment for the future. And sure enough, I'll never forget that test drive with the salesman by my side, doing wayyy over the speed limit on an empty, wide open road. Thank you Ford!

Wish I had come across you as my sales person when I was car shopping last year. I was between cars so my girlfriend took me shopping in her 2001 Ford Freestyle (I since upgraded her to a 2021 Kia Seltos). Walked into a NJ dealer, ready to do a cash deal on a brand new RS5 coupe, and very quickly got the impression that no one was taking me serious. Couldn't be bothered to pull the car from the show room for a test drive and told me "just drive the A5 sedan we have on the lot, it's pretty much the same." Wow... Collected my things, left the dealership, and wrote off Audi entirely from my list. I made certain to let the NJ dealer know in his Google review that he'd missed out and got some lame excuse about "he [sales person] had just experienced a loss in his family and wasn't really 'back on his game'." If true, sorry for the loss, but I have to be skeptical. I am mostly confident had I pulled into the dealer in something flashier than that Freestyle, funeral or not, the experience would have been different.

Not that one or even 10 stories should represent a multi national brand That being said, I had the same experience at the Audi dealership in San Antonio, TX. To be fair, I do match pretty close the doctor in the story (as far as size and dress goes, maybe not money wise lol) While not in the same league, when I bought my new F150 I pulled up in the definition of a rust bucket. They grabbed 3 different trucks from the lot, had them fueled and ready within minutes for me. After a quick insurance and ID check, they handed me 3 sets of keys and said "try not to put more than 50 miles on them"

If you told them you wanted to do a cash deal, that might have been part of the problem, if what I've read lately is true. Apparently, that's a big turn-off for modern car salespeople, because the dealership makes more money on financing and leasing. Again, from what I've read.

Wait...you can do reckless driving on a test drive, damage a car, cause other property damage and not have to pay for it??? Wouldn't the Audi dealership go after the driver who flagrantly drove the car into the guardrail? He floored it for no reason and lost control of the vehicle...that's reckless driving. A lot of people don't realize that even though a car can display 15 mi to 'empty,' a slight hill can be enough to kill it. Fuel sloshes to the back of the tank, away from the lift pump, and it runs dry. It's also not good for the pump, as it is cooled by the fuel and is designed to run submerged in fuel. I've heard they can burn out running on fumes all the time. I remember reading in a ford ranger owners manual that if run out of gas, they recommend at least a couple gallons to restart. There was a little note saying if run out on a hill, it may take 5+ gal to be able to start. It's so much easier to just not be cheap or lazy and never let it get that low in the first place.
@fbpo1699
@fbpo1699 2 жыл бұрын
While this is true for older cars, it isn't for most newer cars and definitely not for the 991.1 this story is about. In the 991.1 the fuel level is not measured, but rather calculated using the input amount and information from the engine. The problem with a batch of C4Ss was that they mistakenly used the software from the normal Carrera S, which uses slightly less fuel because it doesnt have four wheel drive.

Needless to say, he bought one shortly after that but you can sense the embarrassment from him. Super nice dude, just had a little accident which happens. We actually don't let customers test drive new units but Honda allowed us to with a few DCT units but now that their events over, we don't do test drives lol

With all the adrenalin he didn't get it up? What's the africa twin now: 170-190kg? I had a mishap with a 2002 sportster1200 long ago where i layed it on it's side. (wanting to drive out onto the road from a driveway in the rain, and the rear end slipped on a wet manhole cover.) But the 245kg were up again in no time. -> embarressment and adrenalin.

@@nirfz Not to bag the lad, but he freaked out in a shock so I don't think the adrenaline was fully there yet till two of our sales guys made it out there. I believe they're about 235kg as a DCT so not light but not super heavy. Luckily since it was such a low speed lay down, it had did minimal damage, some scraping on the knuckle guards but that's about it . He proceeded to buy our fully loaded unit however. A few months passed and had another customer lay down the same unit while dipping a turn to deep and than that's when I never heard or seen that unit again lol

@@thatblackwrx Wow, my estimation of the weight was way off. Low speed, low damage.. was the same with my mishap: few scratches on the exhaust and the righthand grip and break lever. Thanks for answering!

15 miles till empty, if it got 15 mpg that means only a gallon of fuel but it was probably closer to a half gallon. The fuel pump needs fuel to cool and lubricate the pump, driving a car with half a gallon of gas in it is a terrible idea always.

ITT: a bunch of people that don't realize most Audis (and Subarus) historically literally place their engine block and transmission in front of the front axle - materially different to most front engined platforms that will place the motor ahead of the passenger compartment but behind the front axle centerline (which is literally what the guy says in the video).

The insane change of going from even Kia to Toyota is amazing for me. Customers who religiously take care of their vehicles, keep them forever, don't really bat an eye on big mileage based maintenance costs are amazing. At Kia, it's tooth and nail to get these folks to even do a blinker bulb, much less a filter. I ended up doing a two for one sale to some folks at Kia to just get some sales. At Toyota, I have multiple "don't call me unless it's ready, do any maintenance that is due" customers. Such a crazy change. I hope to soon graduate to Audi haha

They did, the problem was that a batch of 991.1 C4S were fitted with the fuel-calculator from the normal (non- four wheel drive) Carrera S, hence it calculated an incorrect, read: higher, remaining fuel load as it assumed lower consumption. I'm fairly certain they were made aware of this basically immediately after launch and issued a recall/ fixed the problem in production and notified the dealers. Based on the roll-out I'm quite certain that no car in North America should have had this issue, and imo the dealership tried to pull one on the customers by not making the change and pocketing the allotted budget.

This goes for most cars, but especially for Audi’s you do NOT want to slam the brakes when taking a turn with speed. Your rear end will spin out. Audis are powerful cars, you can’t have any average Joe handling these.

Well so much for Audi dealerships then judging by a couple of the stories if they are anything to go by - especially the one where the damage was repaired (obviously not to standard) and then a poor purchaser has to bring it back as the boot had an issue and the damage had not been declared. Just shows it's all down to whom one has to deal with at dealerships - the brand of the car is by the by

Most people will fall for it. But when someone seems of average intelligence but somehow has a way above average ability to recall specific details you know you are dealing with a bullshit artist.
