The car came flying up, didn't stop in time, and hit the building pretty hard. This happened to the guy who had just bought his first brand new car and never got a chance to drive it. 20 years ago I drove a wrecker for a bodyshop. They did contract work for a local transporter that would sneak cars over that had transport damage and I'd see damaged areas painted outside and immediately placed back on the transporter with wet paint. As a car guy this bothered me later in life because of responsibility and accountability.

Reminds me of my experience with BMW. Had an X5 and had one of our local BMW shops lying to us about what was happening. Took it in for a regular service and they kept leading us on. Eventually found out they had damaged some engine parts during the service and had to order them in from Germany. Meanwhile, our loaner was a base 3 series so we weren’t making out quite as well as Emile in that regard. Last BMW we ever bought.

Had nothing to do with the car being brand new. Most people get their cars serviced at a dealer anyway. Also, used car salesmen are worse because they often are selling you a car they know is junk.
@hamsterama3 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with buying a new car. Just, as much as you can, service it yourself. I bought a new Corolla in 2020. This coming year, when it's due for its first oil change, I will do it myself. Toyota offers two years of free maintenance for every new car sold. I'm not going to take advantage of this free offer. I'm just going to presume that the oil changer person at the dealership will figure out some way to mess up the car. Less hassle for me to do it myself.
@Hobinator173 жыл бұрын
@@hamsterama I get what you mean but you should actually take advantage of those free services. I hated changing the oil on my volvo & free service for 2 years on my new toyota is awesome. But I wouldnt trust the dealer for anything other than oil/tire rotations. And only if its free.
@Cohiba23 жыл бұрын
@@hamsterama As a former dealership employee who's seen this happen way to many times including lawyers involved. Here how its going to go should you need to replace the engine because it start burning a ton of oil, throws a rod or some other catastrophic failure. Dealership will ask for all records of oil changes done by a certified mechanic. Failure to provide said records will result in dealership and corporate saying no new engine your fault not covered under warranty. Like i said seen it with lawyers involved and that whole certified mechanic and documentation of the oil changes was always the sticking point of the many engines i saw replaced under customer dime not warranty.
@hamsterama3 жыл бұрын
@@Cohiba2 But I thought that it doesn't void the warranty if you change the oil yourself, as long as you keep records. Like writing down the date and time your changed the oil, and keeping all receipts. If a car starts burning oil or throws a rod, whether the oil was changed or not would have no bearing on that. That's a design flaw, not a maintenance issue. Right now, I'm a couple months away from the oil needing changed (oil needs changed only every 12 months, and I bought the car in March 2020.) I think what I'll do next month is go to Toyota's website and fill out a contact form, asking if I can change the oil myself without voiding the warranty. And if so, what records I need to keep, or if I have to buy the oil and filter from the dealership. That's the only way to know for certain. I just don't trust the clowns in the dealership. It's not their car, so they won't care. At least if I do the maintenance, I know it's going to be done right.

This also happened to me with a nearly brand new vehicle except nobody was hot rodding it. A dealer employee backed into the side of it while it waiting to be washed and their first attempt at repairing it was horrible. They insisted they could make it right but the second attempt was bad body work on top of bad body work. Ultimately they ordered me a new car. I also had a 2002 E46 steel blue coupe I custom ordered that was screwed up inside for an HVAC warranty repair. Combined with other bad service department experiences I’ve learned to buy cars that should rarely need dealer visits as the techs don’t get paid enough per job anymore to do things right so they rush their work and screw things up.

I bought a 428i Cerified preowned a few years ago. I worked in sales at a car paint shop and when I pulled it in to be clear bra'd my boss said they wouldn't do it because the whole front end was repaired and repainted and the paint was already starting to chip. Turns out the dealership took it to a 3rd party body shop and hid it from the carfax. Ended up driving around a new 5 series loaner for like a month while they sat on their hands until eventually they decided to buy the whole car back from me instead of have it repaired at the BMW approved collision center. idk why bmw dealerships are so shady with their sales
