@arshamskrenes6 жыл бұрын
Traction control works with regen. I know because I have a Model S that I drive on ice and it uses as much regen as there is grip (and you can see it feather it). So single pedal, even up to 200 kW would be no problem and definitely desirable for people used to EVs.
@sebschaal6 жыл бұрын
What I heard about the regen/brake layout: They tried to focus on drivers of ICE vehicles, not EV drivers. Experienced EV drivers like Bjorn like the one pedal drive and are used to it. But for other people, it is disturbing. So they choose this layout with an almost ICE-like brake pedal use - and the car defines how much regen/disc braking it needs.
@HOFFERN3426 жыл бұрын
I disagree on the chargeport location. Yes, it should probably be on the side, but in the back not the front. Like a regular petrol tank. The reason is that the charge stations should be on the side of the car instead, like some Tesla Superchargers. Or, they can have them on the front/back with a longer cable so it can reach the side of the cars. Reasoning: It is always safer drive straight out of a parking spot, instead of backing out of it. Most accidents happen when backing out of parking spots.
@MayContainJoe6 жыл бұрын
The whole "parking at a (slower) charger" thing is going away with EV mass adoption anyway. In a few years the most common use of fast chargers will be picking up the remaining 50 km you need to get home to your wallbox within a few minutes. Having to back into/out of a parking spot is a waste of time then.
@TheSmallRabbit6 жыл бұрын
I agree locating the charge port on the rear means the bonnet / hood does not get in the way and you also do not have to drive so close to the charger. Why is the bonnet so long? is it trying to emulate an ICE car !! EV's do not need large bonnets and it would give better road visibility too with a shorter front end. Also really miss the option to see what the car is getting from the charger. To find out what it is you need to calculate when you sit and charge, so helps the time to pass. I Pace only shows % of charge/hr in the dash and time remaining to 100% SOC. However app can show %/hour or Km/Miles per hour, but as the latter number is completely nuts, assume yet another bug.

Seems the Tesla USA website is now offering an entry level Model X with an option (8000 USD) to increase range by 8% and a Performance model including the additional range but "Ludicrous" mode is now a 20 000 USD option. There are similar options for the Model S. 2 models, Model S and Model S Performance. So looks like the Base model replaces the old 75D but with greater range. So if you can get the price of the old 75D would be interesting to see how the New base model prices compare with the discontinued 75D models. Good honest review. There's a very nice car in there although it has some issues. The Autosteer warning system seems almost ok. An autosteer system that disengages, even at lower speeds, is a problem though. Leaving the car in motion is not good enough. The system needs to break to a halt before it disengages. The charging plug disengage issue could have floored the average user and left them stuck. It was only due to BN's resourceful thinking that got him out of trouble. I suspect the sideways strain on the plug also contributed, which was down to poor chargepoint placement on the car and the short cable on the charger. Perhaps Audi could provide an extension for short charge cable stands as it is their car with the issue. The menu system seems to lack an intuitive nature. For example, twice the charging display turned itself off while BN was still in the car. Why? What was the huge saving? And he had to turn the car back on to get it back. By all means turn off the display when there is nobody in the driver's seat. And get rid of the silly grille. It only adds to the car's inefficiency due to poorer aerodynamics. If anything, in general, a lack of grille would show that a car is electric [with the exception of rear engined FFVs], without the need for crazy EV styling cues, which on concept cars, are way too radical at present, in my opinion. I like the super quiet nature of the car and the fact that it is very nice to drive. It should be, of course.

@@omelvold yes, Bjorn interrupted the emergency stop it clearly stated it on the screen as he took over on the steering wheel. Then right after, he let go again, then it was confused and eventually disengaged at slow speed. The slowing down was on its way to 0 inside the tunnel, would have stopped there. Have read about it already in the Abu Dhabi experiences. Would make 0 sense for Audi to be able to do all that and then not slow down to complete stop, it was seconds away from it.

Silly grille? Well, the 'bare ass' design of the newer EV's are probably the single most hated design feature, and most (I mean probably 99%) would prefer a grille or other ornament in the front. Car buyers are pretty conservative, and ornaments and grille elements have none or little influence on the total aerodynamics. Things that protrude on the roof/sides or tire resistance is more a concern.

Bjorn, dont take this personally. I was the person asking you to test out fast charging capacity versus slow charging capacity. There are many EV channels out there and tbh most do not have a remedial understanding of battery technology and that is fine some people just like to drive and test. But, I feel you can really teach people some technology behind the batteries and EVs. I think this is a great opportunity versus ICE because to know an ICE engine you need years and years of experience, but for EV and batteries its not as hard. Anyways, a battery fast charged has an inherent less capacity than a battery slow trickled charge at one amp to 100%. So, what does this mean for EV users? It means if you are going on a long, long drive it is good to do a slow charge starting out so you can get the most range. And, when you reach your destination and before heading back do a slow charge to 100% as well (ie use your home slow charger overnight as much as possible versus fast charging). Also, when you guys talk about coldgate. Coldgate is inherent in all naked battery cells. Lithium ion batteries is a chemical reaction. Temperature is critical. Try charging your phone outside in 0C or below. Tell me what happens. Anyways, I think it would be great if you can teach folks a little about the technology behind coldgate, fast charging, safe charging, discharging a battery but you need to learn this first and its not that hard compared to ICE. Great channel btw just my two cents. I am an avid ebiker who build DYI high voltage ebikes. I know a little some some about batteries but not enough. But, imo, many EV channels out there just do not know the technology behind it and passing that naivety to their viewers is not helping the EV evolution.

Also, this is a great opportunity for you when the Model 3 reaches Europe. Recall that the Model 3 uses the 2170 cells versus other Tesla and EVs that uses the 18650 cells. There are even bigger lithium cells out there. But, the 2170 cell has a huge advantage over other 18650 cells. This needs to be mentioned and understood fully to truly grasp how good the model 3 is versus other EVs. I doubt other EV review channels will even talk much about this. But, if you understood the differences and talk briefly about it. I think it will make your channel so much more informative. Anywho, I will hope to race you one day in my future 400V ebike =)

One way to avoid these issues would be to have extra cable extensions for those places where it might be a bit badly thought out. Not optimal but atleast you wont risk damage your vehicle. These things will get better in time. And that rattle, I'm sure Audi would fix that if you owned the car and went to a dealer. Its a new model so things like this do happen. Atleast the panels seem to line up properly... ;) I'd get the KIA eNiro tho! Its my favorite of the EV's right now I think.

Thanks for doing this, I hope you enjoyed it. The E-tron looks way too Audi - slow infotainment system, too many screens/touches/buttons to push to get things done. Having to mess with the steering wheel toggles to get regen is stupid and overly complicated. The main driver display is both way too complicated and lacking in clear information about vehicle status (e.g., the tiny power meter display). The charger disconnect issue you experienced is just horrendous - good thing you're an experienced EV driver. Two questions: did the speedometer error come from wrong (winter?) size tires, or is this a big design flaw? And, will Audi do OTA updates like Tesla or charge $$$$$ to do them at a dealership like they do for the nav system?
@TheSmallRabbit6 жыл бұрын
I guess the later ......go to the dealer and get ripped off. Its just an ugly big box with little effort supporting a new approach. At least the iPace was a new design. This is just a Diesel with an Electric motor. Out of the two I would choose a Diesel it will be cheaper go further and built just as good or better. For the EV price tag I would have expected something standout different and really really good. This comes up short on too many fronts. Not on my wish list.

What you could have done: position the car more to the right, relative to the point where the cable exits the charger. So you don't lose length to cornering the cable around the front fender. Furthermore: I don't like the charging port position either.

An excellent review! In the next development iterations, Audi should try to lower the consumption to match the competition! Otherwise, a superb station car tailored for the European market with good access to the boot and lots of cargo space. You forgot to mention that it is capable of pulling heavy trailers.

It was a little different than a usual Bjorn review. I missed showing back seats and front passenger/driver seat comfort and adjustment options (which are very good in Audi). A little to much time spent to a charge port bug that probably is fixed at the time ppl get their cars. He also missed the extra boot space underneath the double floor.

First thing I thought when he could not release the plug was that he let the aux A/C on. Seems to me that it's not a bug but a feature, to avoid to drain the battery with the aux A/C if one forget to turn it off and leave the car there for some time before taking the road again... but somehow, the car should warn the driver that he cannot unplug the charging cable if the A/C is on.
