Audi Matrix LED and Laser LED Lights - DEVELOPMENT DOCUMENTARY. Audi continues to drive progress in automotive lighting technology in substantial ways. The latest developments, aside from the familiar #Audi #Matrix #LED technology, are OLED (organic light emitting diode) technology and the new Matrix Laser technology.
The Matrix LED headlights underscore Audi’s ground-breaking expertise in automotive lighting technology. They illuminate the street extremely well in any situation without causing light glare for other road users.
When the light switch is set to “Automatic” and the high beams are on, the system becomes active outside of densely populated areas - as determined from navigation data - starting at a speed of 30 km/h (18.6 mph). If the camera detects other road users, the control unit switches off individual LEDs at lightning speed or dims them over 64 steps.

Being an Electronics Engineer i didn't know a thing about how Lighting Design & Engineering is a totally different and interesting field until i studied and completed the Philips Lighting University LED Certification Courses back in 2014. Now my knowledge regarding the design, placement, installation, maintenance, upgrade, and testing of LEDs is totally different than what it was before as it made me to upgrade the whole existing retrofits in my house to energy efficient LEDs plus I have completed and also currently overseeing multiple large scale LED Projects. I do alot of night time / early freeway driving and the overnight test drive blew me away when the adaptive high beam kicked in on my RSQ3 SB. I've head this tech in my other vehicle and now way was it refined as the Audi system. GG to them

If the algorithm can trace the nature of the environment, then the beams can light specifically each part of the road. Nice 👍, some day pedestrian will have notification of movement too etc. Like parking movement.

Drove 500km from switzerland to Central Germany during the night... Have been blinded more than once by oncoming traffic that failed to detect me on the Autobahn... This is dangerous and should be forbidden until it works properly.

Volvo has a similar system and it works perfectly, it didn't fail once while driving over night from München to Fehrman, it even detected the christmas lights in the small villages along the country roads.

@@moogliii2571 maybe. im just telling from my experience, driving an older BMW E30, that i was blinded quite often and particularly by new cars with blueish-white headlights which seemed to be the LED type of lights... Mainly in hilly bends on stretches with bushes and small trees in the median. I cant proove anything, but in my eyes its unnecessary and dangerous. Just as these fancy sequential turning lights (but thats a different topic) :P

@@FreFa-ch You aren't supposed to turn on your high beams on the autobahn, they only work properly until you reach 120kph. The sensors cannot track cars that are to the side and moving at more than 250kph (relative to the car with high beams, its as if that car was sitting still while you are going your speed plus the speed of the audi). This isn't the fault of audi, but of the drivers turning on their high beams thinking they would work at those speeds while clearly they aren't designed for this.

These Matrix LED and Laser LED lights ARE the future. While they may cost more, they improve safety for all. However, there will always be cynics, skeptics, and detractors . . . they could drive older vehicles without these "unnecessary" and even "problematic" features.

@@dan_6915 thats cause most leds and xenons on the street are aftermarket from cheapos. You can't replace a halogen bulb with a led that's 50 times stronger and put it in the housing made specifically for halogens.

The lights are fine have been for years, accidents are not caused by not having laser/matrix lighting. These are a blinding distraction to other drivers eyes at night as the intensity is overwhelming!
