Audi North Miami Lied To Me and Cost Me Over $1000…

This is the forum thread on Audizine about the car I was going to buy:
www.audizine.c...
My current RS7 was not the first one I tried to purchase. There was another vehicle, a Certified Pre-Owned 2016 Audi RS7 Prestige from Audi North Miami. I discovered that Audi North Miami lied to me and mislead me about the condition of that vehicle. I am making this post hoping others will learn from my experience. I will never do business with this dealership and have lost trust in the Audi CPO process.
I found this car on March 25th, reached out to the dealership and expressed interest the following day. The car had a perfect CPO report, clean one-owner Carfax with no accidents and regular maintenance. I assumed a CPO car from a major Audi dealer would be a safe purchase, just like my CPO S4 (which was essentially perfect over 2.5 years and 30k+ miles). My friend went into the dealership to take a look at the car for me, he discovered severe damage to the underside of the front bumper and carbon splitter. The dealership refused to fix this damage, since it was underneath the front end of the vehicle. Every single time I brought up the damage to the front end the response I received was “this car is beautiful, it’s like new, super clean” and “you're getting such a good deal, I can’t touch the car at the price you're getting it, can’t put it in the air to fix that”. I eventually give up on this and decide I would have it fixed once the car was back in Michigan.
After some difficulty with basic math on the purchase price, dealer fees and taxes, we finally get everything finalized. Money and paperwork are exchanged, I book a trip down to Miami to pick up the vehicle and drive it home.
On the afternoon of April 2nd, I am browsing Audizine and come across a thread about the exact vehicle I was purchasing. Another forum member had taken the vehicle for a test drive and found very clear evidence that the car had been in an accident, and very poorly repaired. He posted pictures of the paint around the fuel door and rear quarter panel, showing cracking paint which indicated the vehicle had been in an accident, poorly repaired and repainted. I contact the dealership and ask if they were aware of this on the vehicle, the answer I get is “You are getting such a good price on the car, you are not financing through us and we gave you a $1250 discount, therefore we are making no money on the car”. I respond that my price and discount are irrelevant to if the car’s condition and how it has been represented to me. The car has a clean Carfax and passed your CPO inspection, the dealer insists that the car is “perfect and beautiful.”. At this point I had completely lost trust in the dealership and requested that the deal be cancelled, the dealership agrees to return my money and cancel the deal.
The next morning, a different sales manager from Audi North Miami calls me. He wanted to see what went wrong, what happened, since the deal was so close to being closed, why did I want to cancel it. I explained the entire situation to him, and he says “Oh, we were supposed to disclose that this car had been repaired in that area and had damage”. He then apologizes and assures me that he would make sure the deal was cancelled and I received my money back. This confirmed that multiple sales people and managers at this dealership lied to me and purposefully mislead me about the condition of the car. I count myself extremely lucky that I discovered the forum thread about the car and will never do business with Audi North Miami again. I spoke with the forum member who test drove the vehicle and he echoed my experience; the dealership would not answer his questions about the paint cracks and damage to the vehicle and refused to give him the CPO inspection report.
This ordeal was extremely stressful and frustrating, my trip was non-refundable, and I still had to go into the dealership to meet with a finance director and pick up my check, then rent another vehicle to drive home. When I reached out to the dealership afterwards to try and resolve the situation, they informed me that I have no basis to complain, I still came to Miami and filmed some videos. Obviously, I had to make the best of the situation, I was not going to sit in my hotel room and sulk. I did the best I could with the situation, but I went down to purchase a car and drive home, which did not happen.
I have owned multiple Audi’s and love the vehicles and brand, I find it extremely unfortunate that I had to go through something like this, and I hope no one else has to deal with something like this either.

Cmon Eddie. You don’t ever trust car dealers! Especially not with a blind 70k purchase. ALWAYS have an independent pre-purchase inspection especially when it’s a long distance deal. Carfax doesn’t disclose every possible accident or damage. Never trust the CPO process! The same dealer employees doing the CPO process are the same ones selling you the vehicle! That’s a conflict of interest all day! Some dealers will be honest and transparent many will be dishonest and look to unload their damaged vehicles on the long distance internet customers. Protect yourself no matter who you are doing business with. Business is just that business!

@Albert Romanov Honestly, I have been all over Florida multiple times, and the only places I enjoyed were the ones filled with old people. Those places were GREAT. The other places were about 50/50 you were going to run into an asshole on any given day. That, and the police in Florida were really pushy. I know Police mess about with out of state people all the time, but they genuinely seamed like they wanted to single handedly ruin the tourism in Florida. That said, I enjoyed my time in Florida WAY more than I would anywhere in the north east. There is a good 80% chance you will run into an asshole/shitty driver anywhere in the north east. I've gotten almost run off the road by asshats everytime I have gone to the NE as well as going up to Chicago. I used to live in Chicago, and been to NY many times and I can say good riddance.

Most dealers have no clue, lots of people damage their leased cars and have body shops fix them out of pocket so that nothing goes through insurance and shows up on a carfax that the dealer would see. They return them, the used car manager gives it a quick once over (remember, he's there to make money, not be a police officer), it gets detailed and put on the used lot. Happens every day and had that been a better repair he would have bought that RS7 and had no idea. If dealers are aware of an accident then the car gets sent to an auction to be bought and sold by a general used car dealer, and who did he buy the current RS7 from? Yeah.

I went to college in Miami. It is still to this day the worst place I have ever been to. I have never had any issues with my debit/credit cards, however, as soon as I got to Miami, a week or so later, there was a fraud alert on one of my accounts. I had to get my bank cards replaced numerous times living there. I also dealt with businesses that straight up lied about costs and other things. There is no reason to do business with any company in Miami. I don't even suggest going there for any reason.

I bought a CPO 2016 Toyota Camry hybrid that was clearly in an accident after close inspection. I found out after a year later that the front hood of my vehicle wasn’t symmetrical along with reoccurring issues with my suspension. I bought the vehicle with suspension issues and didn’t realize the creaking noise until a few days later. This car was bought at 22k VS 76k and this one was by my house. I can’t imagine spending more than 3X my amount and losing 2k on top of it just be scammed. Ridiculous!

I agree with PHerron. As a general rule, I don't trust auto dealers, cops, RE agents, etc. IMO, I believe when one party has inside knowledge of any industry that the average Joe doesn't, they will (75+ % of the time) exploit you. It's human nature. It gets worse when its cross cultural or different races. Eg: 1 race will give their own a better deal than another race...again human nature. Finally, most car dealership- franchises or independent- will TRY to rip you off INITIALLY....just my 2 pesos!!

Sorry to hear what you went through sir. I am an Audi service Advisor here in southern california, and I can say that ALL CPO vehicles (regardless of brand) are honestly inspected by a wide range of technicians. Some technicians (thankfully at my store) take pride in their CPO inspections, looking over the vehicle for ALL defects. Some other stores - the technicians treat the car just like they would a regular oil change. It comes in - and gets out within an hour. Then they just check off that giant check list without any disregard. Hell, my store even spiffs the technician CASH if they find any proof of body work or frame damage just so they don't sell the car and get it wholesaled. Honestly man, all dealerships aren't treated equal. Sorry you had a rough experience. Cheers!

I've had dealerships try to take advantage of me (especially since I am relatively young and look even younger). However, showing that you know what you want and what that's worth and that you're willing to walk away at any point (as I had to do after several levels of salespeople told me that I was asking for something unreasonable) is likely the best approach. It's more difficult when you're trying to purchase a car you're very excited about because emotions can easily lead you to be irrational, but you should plan ahead of time what you are willing to accept/pay. Good for you for not feeling pressured to go through with the deal, but I think I would've backed out earlier if I were you and thus avoid a bigger waste of time and money.
