For all those newbies out there: This is an excellent video tutorial on how to replace the battery. BUT, it does not include the final crucial step. You need to perform what's called a battery recode using an OBDII scanning tool like OBDeleven or VCDS, to tell the vehicle that you have installed a new battery. The reason is because over time as the battery degrades, the charging system will increase its charge in order to keep the battery at full charge. If you install a new battery into the vehicle without performing the recode, the charging system will think the old battery is still in the vehicle, and continue to charge it like it was an older, worn out battery. That will result in an overcharged new battery, which may mean a short lifespan. To sum up: 1. Replace the battery as shown in this video. 2. Either perform the battery recode yourself using either OBDeleven or VCDS. Or pay the dealership to perform the recode for you. It's beyond the scope of my reply to discuss the recoding procedure, but just search for it on KZbin and you'll find some videos that will walk you through it.

Just dealt with this on a 2020 Q5. Yes, these vehicles are for people who fall for the flashy car, then find out later their reliability ABSOLUTELY sucks. Even with the right tools I couldn't get the positive battery terminal to come off all the way. I was afraid that if I forced it I would break something. Overly complicated pieces of garbage that start to fall apart after four year, if your lucky, and expensive as hell to fix.

It’s a pretty stupid reason. Not to choose a car. Especially when you’re talking about a high quality German craftsmanship compared to flimsy Japanese cookie cutters. You’re not cut out for a luxury car clearly. Especially because when you purchase a luxury car, the shop does all the work for you because you’ve got the money to let other people do your bidding. People that can afford an Audi don’t fix their own cars.

Probably easier with Vise-Grips/Locking pliers, as long as they have a slightly curved gripping area you probably could. Those bolts shouldn't be torqued too hard since there's no dynamic load it has to support.

Yes, these vehicles are overly complicated. If you want to own an Audi / VW you should definitely buy a set of triple square sockets. Also be prepared for lots of expensive repairs, especially if you can't even buy the tools for simple repairs.

On my 2023 Q5, the trunk floor panel is a hinged two section panel that only exposes the rear speaker and spare tire. There is a third panel that apparently covers the battery, but I can not see how to remove it to expose the battery.

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I believe that the car is required to be coded to the new battery. This is needed so that the alternator charging is aligned with a newer battery in order to prevent damage or shorten the life. Does this need to be done by a dealer?

@TheBatteryShop
@TheBatteryShop Жыл бұрын
Hi - Thanks for watching! Heat is the reason Batteries fail sooner than expected. Batteries in the South are generally replaced more often than batteries Northern climates. Cold weather places more demand on the battery for starting purposes but a properly maintained battery and charging system usually results in the battery lasting as long as expected.

This was great thanks👏 And for those who think it’s a pain in the rear😉, it’s also the best place for the battery. But yes it’s true German engineered vehicles are never simple😅but there’s nothing quite like them! This is my fifth German from my first VW Super Beetle (wish I still had her!😢) through BMW & now my 2nd TDI. Such a shame VAG had to mess up with diesels, but at least that pushed them fast into the electric foray, especially out of necessity in the USA.
