I was as given a mid-sized SUV instead of a luxury saloon, because supposedly it is just as comfortable. Is it? Is a midsize SUV a cheaper more practical alternative? I wanted to find out. But the Audi Q7 50 TDI I was given turned out to be an absolute lemon, riddled with issues. It is baffling to me why a company which has enough image problems as it is, releases a car in this state.

It is a huge shame that more reviewers have not been truthful about the horrible and dangerous lag issues that most, if not all Audi TDI 50 models across the range have (some TDI 50's may have been fixed). They should have called Audi out on it. Worse, Audi refuse to acknowledge it is an issue, stating it is a 'feature' and it is designed that way. I have an A8 TDI 50 that I purchased 'blind' because of Covid (so didnt test drive), because of this issue, it is the worst car I have ever owned - quite simply it is dangerous. Audi should be totally and utterly ashamed of themselves. You are also correct about the interior quality and design, Audi are not using the materials they should be on cars that cost over £90,000 new (my A8 had a screen price of £94,000, I didnt pay that, I purchased 2nd hand). I have had many Audi's over the years but the one I have now is the last I shall ever own. I would also advise avoiding Audi and indeed VAG in general - they lost their way with emissions defeats and falsehoods and gone further down hill since. They produce vehicles with dangerous flaws and genuinely treat their customers like shit.

I bought a Black edition 50tdi back in December. It is a lovely car to be in and roomy for my three young kids. Powerful, fast, and comfortable. I was a critic of the SUV trend but when I had my third child I then realised it was a necessity over an estate car. As an owner I agree with most of your critique of the vehicle. I also hate Piano black everywhere. Looks good in a showroom, but after a day of use with dust and kids fingermarks, its not pracitcal to live with and spoils the look. Ive had mine all PPF'd to make it easy to wipe clean without scratching etc. Ok but not ideal. Why have it in the first place? The second issue I have is with the MMI infotainment. The older audi system with dials was much better to use. The new dual screens require lots of software updates to get it working better with my Android auto app and still doesnt work well. My biggest issue and apparently im not the only one, is the throttle respone of the 50tdi engine. Its borderline dangerous the two to three second delay and I know im not the only one to be thinking the same. I understand there is now a software update for the engine TPI: 2053287/11 for anyone interested. You have to ASK your dealer for this only then will they do it. That for me has been the biggest let down. Ive been an audi fanatic all my life and have had everything from R8s to allroads to RS6 to the UR quattro. All have their forgivable niggles but this issue with the newer audi diesels has really tarnished their rep in my eyes. Thanks for an honest review.

So true...Audi’s just seem to be issue magnets and you’re right about the design....so uninspiring and I laughed out loud when you said that the designer must have been like “yeah whatever, i don’t give a sh!t”...hilarious. I owned a 2016 q7 and those sorts of issues you spotted get worse and worse as time goes on.

It seems that he just doesn’t know how to work the car 🚗 yet then he’s complaining about little beyond minor stuff!!!!!
