Audi RS3 Winter Cold Start & POV Drive in -16°C / 3°F

My Friend Owns a 2023 Audi RS3 8Y with 401hp, all stock. How well does it start up during mid-winter in heavy snow? Also doing a POV Drive through the city. And yes, the number plate means LET'S F... GO!

@@lilazi420 I am just saying its not the best way to warm up your engine, because oil flow is not optimal at idle RPM when oil is cold. And it takes longer to warm up at idle. So you are wearing the engine more than if you let it idle for 1,2 min and start driving gently until its atleast close to operating temp.

OMG, what a primitive way to get to the car covered in snow... You could just move your hand to swipe the snow above the door. It's like 2 seconds. You wouldn't have to sit on the snow... Like a savage.

No need to idle for so long mate. You should start driving slowly after the car finishes the cold start cycle. idling without moving in this weather just causes more wear on your engine due to the temperature taking longer to rise.

absolutely nonsense. Everybody who lives in really cold countries let the engines warm up before starting to drive. it's even better to let them idle for some time instead of driving right away in these temperatures

@@_DutchFox_ "for some time" is usually like a minute or two, Get in the car start it. Turn music on. seatbelt etc, Meanwhile the fluids will get where they need to be. 20 minutes is absolutely overkill.

Isn't it better to start driving immediately after cold start with low revs rather than letting it idle for a long time? The oil starts circulating faster which also quickens up the warming up process. Just my two cents

This car is excellent in the snow and if you want a pocket rocket, this car would be it. A BMW M3 drove by me last night and I was thinking how it's only about another two inches from being as big as a M5 is, this RS3 is what BMW Ms use to be, even the M2 is getting too big. Been a fan of this car for a while now, it'd be a good Daily Driver.

I am really upset we didn't get the RS3 this gen in Canada. Not that I can afford one new right now but in like 4-5 years I would of gotten a used one. The previous gen(~2020) is really looking dated now unfortunately....and it still doesn't have a heated steering wheel. Really Audi. 70 grand and no heated steering wheel. Even entry level 20 grand cars have it as standard.

Well… our BMW M3 (100k+ car) has no heated steering wheel. But that’s because the first owner didn’t purchase this option.

Thank god its got AWD. Real wheel drive is a no no in that type of weather. And by the way, your AC should be off when its freezing like that. Just turn on the vent without the AC and set the temperature to red. You won't heat up your interior affectively when you run your air conditioning.

First of all, RWD is good in winter if you have good winter tires and second of all, the AC stays off automatically when it is freezing temps...

I live in the same city and drive the same roads in both RWD and FWD cars, no problem at all. And AC is automatic, it knows what to do.

#1 Get snow off car. #2 Open door. Who lets a car idle for 20 minutes in the cold? This was a problem with carbureted cars, not fuel injected. Start it, idle for 30-60 seconds, and gently drive off! Much better for your engine than idling at sub-freezing temperatures. Cold starts = rich fuel mixture. Fuel mixes with oil, dilutes the oil, bad for engine.
