The Audi RS5 is a seriously impressive piece of kit. It's stylish, it's luxurious, and it's very, very fast. But the same can be said of the S5; a car which has slightly less power, more subtle styling and - crucially - costs the best part of £13k less. So does that extra 'R' on the boot lid justify the extra cash? In this video, I'll test their performance, handling, and even consult the opinion of another man to find out.

The starting price for the rs5 in Norway is 1 021 000 NOK, if you make that into pounds, it will be about 100k... So that's the STARTING price in Norway, so be happy uk people

Yes, but, It's not like the RS5 is more expensive and everything else is the same. Everything is more expensive, which means in the UK everything is cheaper, so they compare the prices to all UK Vehicles

Then you would be surprised at how much it costs here. It is, in euros, €250,000. RS6 base price is €287,000. R8 v10 plus is €507,000. Talk about being lucky.

Fantastic review. Will watch the others now. As an owner of both cars (last model) I think the RS5 stands out ahead clearly in terms of performance, control and engineering. Look at what options or configurations you can't get on the RS5 as compared to the S5....that tells you how much extra engineering is onboard meaning there's no space for the options. One illustrative example would be air intakes preventing the fitting of fog lamps on the 2002-2011models. But the engine management subsystems take up more of the onboard CPU and the suspension engineering has implications too. One is engineered the other isn't.

Love how the RS5 looks, but i'd take the c63s as it has everything combined ( from bmw and audi ) plus the V8 and the 'luxuriousness', perfect car would be the looks of an RS5, engine of c63s and handling of m4

So true. Here in the states the 75mph interstate highways are littered with State Police radar detection: ask me how I know. A CO State Trooper clocked myself and Frau at 102mph in a 75mph zone. Hey our MY06 Jetta 1.9 TDI was flat out .... My MY98 Porsche C2S 911 (993) will easily do 102mph .... Its the 75mph highways that suck. .. We often do a 1500mi road trip btw ATL and Vail, CO ... we could easily do 100mph the whole trip, if?

Well said. Only here you can drive your car freely on highways, and I mean pedal to the metal if there’s a space for that of course. Anyway RS is a badge, looks, feels and performance that S just can’t give you.

Whats the performance like when both cars get a stage 1 tune? My S5 (2017) went from 354hp to 429hp and 500NM to 697NM, costs were about 1100 pounds for a motor and trans tune and a couple of dyno runs. Performance should be very close to a non tuned RS5. Imo that's a way better way to save the 13k S5 vs RS5 if you don't want to go full out money wise. You can lend my car Matt 😉

V6 is the RS5 isn't pretty much the same as in the S5. It's a completely new engine developed by Porsche, it pulls like crazy but it's also surprisingly economical. S5 has regular 3.0 TFSI engine from other Audi models.

Well…. Audi/VW/Porsche are always designed by Porsche/VW/Audi. Both engines were designed by the same group of engineers.

As an Audi fanboy, I'm very very disappointed with what Audi is doing these days. I honestly prefer the C63 AMG so much more. The S5 sportback is a nice option if you want a fast and practical car though.
