The Audi S5 is an awesome car, but there are some expensive problems that can occur. This video will help teach new buyers and current owners about what can go wrong on the B8 and B8.5 Audi S5, with either the 3.0T supercharged V6 or the 4.2L V8. Some of these problems will overlap with the 2009-2017 Audi A4 as well!

Looking at the cabriolet line up S5s. Any year in particular to seek and issues to be aware of? Thanks in advance. Also, in the older models can you switch out the gear shifter and steering wheel (square bottom)with the newer ones? Last but not least, does high mileage (>100K) should be a factor when looking to purchase?

Great video, I liked the 3.0T plot twist lol, I’ve had the 4.2 for about 5 years now so far I’ve dealt with the control arms, the high pressure fuel pumps and the sound amplifier failing so the information you covered was very accurate.

Great Vid👍. Had my 2007 S5 (114,000 miles) around 5 years and replaced both bushes, then the driver locking mechanism went and I did the quick fix first (with lubricant as the latch sticks when cold) then replaced it fully when was happening more often. Window regulator is another that goes. Will keep an eye on the coolant and waiting for the death rattle 🙈.

Great video. Have a 2012 A5. Looking at 2022 S5. I have 94k on mine. Only issues were high pressure fuel pump and at 60k Audi replaced piston rings for free due to oil consumption. Burns zero oil since. Had a 2002 TT until I got this A5. TT had a few more issues and traded it in with 135k. I would’ve kept it but my back did not like the ride, being so low, and the clutch. I guess it’s almost always cheaper to keep a used car than have payments. But I really want the V6 and reliability at least through the 4 year warranty period.

2009 Audi S5, 4.2L, 6MT, 157K miles. Bought car for a steal with 148K miles, headlight went out the week it was mine, new pair of HIDs, thankfully ballasts were good. Oil leak around valve cover, replaced gasket. Oil leak from Cam position sensor, replaced sensor, and wire. Misfire CEL, pulled intake manifold, cleaned intake ports and valves with walnut shells, replaced injectors plugs and coil packs, CEL cleared. Slow coolant leak got faster, replaced Coolant expansion tank, the rear lower fitting had a small crack. Yet to be resolved: Factory fluid filled motor mounts sheared, looking to replace with 034 density line motor mount. My passenger door lock actuator is broken, and must be opened with the interior handle to unlock, and manually turning the actuator inside the door jam to lock. Washer fluid reservoir has a leak, haven't pulled the driver side tire and removed wheel liner to replace yet. Noticed oil in spark plug tubes, shop determined it is the cam tower hold downs, still haven't replaced. Recently, noticed difficulty shifting into reverse and 1st, spongy clutch pedal, clutch master cylinder and lines likely need replacement. Aside from the thousands of dollars and countless hours needed to make these repairs, it is the best vehicle I have ever owned, and truly the most pure driving experience.

You can switch out the steering wheels! I plan on swapping my b8 wheel with a flat bottom b8.5 wheel. You will need to buy an airbag of a specific code if you wish to avoid coding the airbag so it deploys properly but they are a plug-and-play swap if you buy the right stuff. There are plenty of write-ups on forums and KZbin vids to help. For any Audi with higher mileage, just make sure maintenance was taken care of by the previous owner and you should be set

Does anyone know why my 2011 S5 v8 (less than 50k miles) is shutting down when I'm sitting idle too long. It happened to me at a stop light a few weeks ago. I have to re crank and then it's fine. Everything is great but don't know what's up with this issue. Thanks.
@Moh-cs5ck
@Moh-cs5ck 2 жыл бұрын
That is Start-Stop system the engine turns off at around 1k rpm when you are fully stopped for fuel economy. That's normal unless your car doesn't have that system but i think it should have so simply press the button to turn it off the button looks like: The letter A with a circle around it should be on your center console.

@@Moh-cs5ck thanks for the tip although 2011 apparently didn't include that feature. Actually it hasn't happened again since I have turned off (turned down completely) the Amp and subwoofer my husband had installed. You mentioned you had a sub and amp, sometimes factory alternators can’t transfer enough energy to power an aftermarket amp and sub so it can cause the car to die. Also carbon buildup is known to cause a car to stall out on idle so if you’re due for a carbon cleaning, there’s a good chance that’s your problem

So, I recently purchased a 09 S5 V8. I literally love this car, until now. Had replaced tons of hoses because everything is freaking brittle plastic crap. And other parts. QUESTION TO YALL (I'm not a mechanic I know nothing about euro cars) so be nice... 1. I need the live date scanner not sure which is best for this car!? Apparently hubby can't work on it anymore he's over it said the scanner is 500 and up!? After all the work done I still can't drive the car.. The right side of manifold near the I believe high pressure fuel pump injector which ever smells like gas horribly I can smell when I open hood. Only on right side. Codes on the scanner I have currently.. ECM 01314-013 intermittent E.P.B.C.M J540 static P0308,P0307,P0300 pending- all random misfires P2293-pending. Fuel pressure reg. Valve. N276 MECH. MALFUNCTION P0393- Camshaft postion sensor signal high. G301 P0368- G300 IS THERE ANY POSSIBLY WAY THE O RING from fuel injector on rail?

Anthony, my known issue (most common as I found in my research before I bought my 2010 manual) has been the carbon cleaning. Ran me about 2,000$ USD. High pressure fuel pump, passenger door not locking, carbon buildup, seat wear, oil leak, coil packs, even down to the stupid coolant reserve tank cracking!!! Speaks to my spirit.
